QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Awesome. Sale signed his extension in March of 2013. It guaranteed him 5 years and $32.5 million, buying out one year of free agency for $12 million. And the team holding options on 2 more years of what would have been free agency for $26 million total. Quintana signed his extension in March of 2014. It guaranteed him 5 years $26.5 million (due to being arbitration eligible following 2014). The team then holds options for his 1st 2 years of what would have been free agency for $22 million. Eaton signed his extension in March of 2015. It guaranteed him 5 years and $23.5 million. The deal bought out what would have been his 1st year of free agency for $8.4 million and then gave the team 2 options for $20 million. I assume Anderson's 6 year deal will have 2 club options attached to it. What deals like this amount to is a mutual bet between club ownership and the player The player likes the security a deal like that gives him and his family. $25 million allows Tim to be set for life. The Sox are betting that he succeeds and gets to buy out two seasons of free agency at a significantly reduced rate via teams options I'm sure the Sox would love to approach Rodon about an extension, although I'm not sure if Boras would allow for it

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:10 AM) 2 years past free agency. "Anderson, the cornerstone of the White Sox’s future, will earn $850,000 this year, and could be tied up to the White Sox through the age of 31. The White Sox also have two club options on Anderson’s service, buying out all of his arbitration years and two years of free agency." Exactly what I thought would happen 6 year deal, with the Sox gaining two years of club options afterwards If Anderson gets anywhere close to his ceiling this is a great deal. His floor as a speedy, good defensive SS limits the risk here

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I'm kinda confused until we know how much additional control we have. I'm thinking the Sox need to have a few club option years attached to have this deal make sense? If not, I'm not sure how this will work in the Sox favor? I'm guessing it is 6 years, $25 million guaranteed with 2 years of club options afterwards at a reasonable sum of money Sox likely control him via options for upto 8 years

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 05:10 PM) I like Timmy Anderson, but anyone who says that they feel better about him than they did about Beckham after his rookie year is lying. I remember everyone on this board creaming in their jeans when Harold Reynolds listed him as a future HOF'er during Spring Training that next year. Anderson is more athletic than Beckham was, has shown the ability to play plus defense at SS, and is much faster If he can improve his K% rate and improve his walk rate a bit, he will really be able to put his plus speed to use
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) They could have locked Beckham up after 14 homers and 28 doubles in four months too. Glad they didn't. I think Anderson is a good player though. I feel better about Anderson than Beckham An extension could prove to be a great move right now for the White Sox. It helps Anderson get paid now, but also makes sure that he is cost controlled for the foreseeable future

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:11 PM) A near .800 OPS in high A from a 19 year old SS prospect is pedestrian?? I agree he's probably a bit overrated due to his AFL stint, but let's not sell his A ball numbers short. The kid is an incredible prospect and worthy of top 10/20 status. Torres is legitimately a very good prospect who is advanced for his age His AFL stint is a small sample size that I would not put much stock into, but it does show he can handle better competition Scouting grades: Hit: 65 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55 | Overall: 65 Torres Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 55 | Run: 65 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 65 Moncada ^^ from MLB.com. I would say those grades are Torres hitting his ceiling across the board Given the choice I would rather have Moncada over Torres, due to the clearly plus run tool. Both should be franchise players for their respective teams and are top 5 mlb prospects. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) From MLBTradeRumors: Makes sense to me Yankees would have to trade off quite a bit of the farm that they have built up in order to get Quintana Q is not going anywhere until closer to the deadline -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Look around baseball. One dimensional power hitters just don't carry the value that they used to. With Abreu being priced as essentially market price, there just isn't any meat on the bone. If Abreu hits like he did the final two months of last season he could have value at the deadline -
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) The best development is to have him face major league pitching every day. I am guessing he will be up in May. Sox won't call up any prospects until late May at the earliest to gain an additional season of control

QUOTE (brett05 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 07:03 AM) We gotta find someone to teach Yoan to cut down on those k's. Even if we can get that to say 25% rate that would be huge. I'd even pay a guy outside of the organization if we have to. It's called development Moncada is 21 years old and not a finished product. Spending time in AAA will go a very long way in helping him cut down on the strikeouts. At this point he really just needs reps because he does not have that much minor league experience Patience will be key

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Play him in LF and let him hit you 30+ bombs. Perhaps, but we will need to suck pretty hard to be picking in the top 5 next season to have a shot at him or Singer

QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) I think the most impressive thing about beer is his 84:35 BB:K ratio so far in the NCAA....throw in an additional 19 HBPs. Then also keep in mind he enrolled a season early Beer's bat is unquestioned to be plus, but his defense and athleticism are another story Beer would be drafted either as a bat first outfielder, or a first baseman...both of which are pretty unlikely to be selected #1 overall in the draft Teams are valuing defense and speed more than every before, which raises questions about drafting a bat that high If his defense improves, he might go #1, but if scouts are not convinced he can stick in the outfield he might slip further than most think

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) My ears perk up when the accolades of a young prospect are so high on makeup and baseball acumen. Look how much Saladino has been able to accomplish with little talent but great feel and IQ. The way they write about Albies he just seems like the guy that will always make the right play, always take the extra base. Stuff like that adds up. Players like that age well. Albies is very underrated for a top 15 prospect in my opinion He's only 20 years old and has already made it to AAA It's scary to think what a few more seasons of development could bring. High baseball IQ, great glove, great arm, plus bat, plus run. If he had league average power or better you could make the case for him being the best prospect in baseball Sox fans would love this guy in our system Scouting grades: Hit: 65 | Power: 30 | Run: 70 | Arm: 55 | Field: 65 | Overall: 60 That right there is a franchise player^
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Anytime you get a Miguel Cabrera comparison, you have my attention. I like what Albies brings to the table in terms of leadership and hard work He might never hit for much power, but will field really well, is a plus runner, plus arm and plus hit tool His mlb comparison is likely Jose Altuve with less power, but perhaps an even better fielder

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 07:07 PM) Would love the Braves to swoop in and get him. To me, they have the best farm system in the MLB and they preach fundamentals top to bottom. First class org. Would be odd timing for the Brewers to make a splash like Quintana though. They are in the middle of rebuilding and I don't see them shelling out a bunch of prospects right now

QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Heard a lot of good stuff about Adell lately. Gonna watch him closely. Blayne Enlow is a high upside high school arm with a very projectable 6'4", 180 lb frame Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 60 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55 | Overall: 55 Projects to have two plus pitches and above average control. He's young, but the upside might be worth considering

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) Great point. How many of us would have been willing to trade Anderson during the last few years? Not me. I can see why teams are reluctant to trade certain players because they have that talent lined up to replace a current player. Meadows for Cutch, Keller for Cole, Torres for Gregorius/Headly, Frazier/Judge to replace Gardner/Hicks/Holliday etc. I would imagine that makes trade discussions difficult because on one side were talking about high end prospects that a team has plans for and on the flipside were talking about a very good pitcher in Q who is worth a haul. Something has got to give and it won't be the Sox since they can simply wait until the market comes to them. With four years of control left on Q, the Sox have plenty of time to wait this out and get the haul were all waiting for. If not, f*** it, I won't complain about Q pitching for the Sox over the next four years. I'm all for waiting on the correct return. The potential return of a Quintana trade is absolutely vital to our rebuilding process and should vault us to the best farm system in baseball -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) True but I still think you're more likely to get more overall value from a handful of A prospects than you are a bunch of B prospects. B-, B and B+ prospects are much easier to find and exist in nearly every organization. They make up great depth and are acquired through trades, great international signings and good drafting A- and A prospects are gems and are the most prized. You must draft really well, sign int'l talent or get them through a blockbuster trade. These are impact level talents who have legitmate star potential Both are great to have, but I need the higher caliber prospects if I am dealing Quintana We got A in Moncada, A-/B+ in Kopech, B- in Basabe and C+ in Diaz Eaton got us A-/B+ in Giolito, B+ in Lopez and B in Dunning Quintana should return somewhere between the two, likely closer to the Sale return -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Absolutely. I look at it this way... the Yanks have Torres, Frazier, Judge, Andujar, Mateo, Rutherford and Mateo to offer the Sox in a trade for Q. Now, look at the position players in the Sox farm and ask yourself, how many position players do the Sox have that can equal or exceed what the Yanks have to offer? My point is that most of, if not all of those Yanks prospects I listed are better than what the Sox already have. Well, excluding Moncada of course. IMHO, a rebuilding team is not only about building the next winner but building future winners for years to come. Depth throughout the minors allows talent to flow upwards towards the majors in waves. The Cards are a great example of what I'm talking about. Year in and year out they are in the division race and have a solid farm with plenty of depth to either call up or to be used in trades. I'll happily take a depth package in a trade for Q. Especially if the package brings back two or three good quality position players. Give me the higher ceiling guys anyday though If the price were lowered from the truly premium prospects then 1/2 the league should very much be in on Quintana -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I think Frazier/Rutherford is the way to go, a la all of my trade proposals. Nothing is happening prior to the deadline The suitors might be very different at that point, so it's somewhat pointless to discuss right now and further than has already been done -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) I don't know man, I've seen plenty of cringeworthy offers for Q as of late. Rutherford headlined deals are insane in my opinion Look at what we got for Sale and Eaton and to think we'd cave on Quintana is nuts With all eyes on him he shut down the stacked USA lineup at the WBC and looked in midseason form -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) Frankly, given that the Sox have already gotten packages revolving around high ceiling players, I would probably prefer a package built around four or so 50-60 FV type players. Obviously you need a couple on the higher end, but mitigating risk with these prospects is good in the long run too. I'd rather have fewer, high high upside players than a depth package of lesser talent Give me players like Moncada and Kopech, who could be stars -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) Is this considered a strong draft year? Haven't paid too close attention so far. Looks like the Sox will have a few nice options to choose from. The 2017 draft appears to be a decent draft year, but 2018 is looking to be better at this point This year is stocked with college arms, but seems light on high school position players
