  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) This is the hidden excess value in Moncada that I think some tend to forget. Boston ate 62M between the contract, bonus and penalties to sign Moncada. You can bet DD pointed that out to Hahn during negotiations. Imo, Moncada's talent and 62M invested arguably give him the value of two top fifty prospects. There is a big bvalue gap between a "55" grade prospect and a "65" grade prospect like Moncada Moncada's ceiling is that of a superstar
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) Yeah, Tampa is like Pitt in that they the prospects but I doubt they have the balls to actually go for it. I think it would take Adames, Honeywell, Bauers and Lowe for the Rays to get into the bidding. Adames + Honeywell would be a must Your proposed package is along the right lines of what it would take to land Quintana...a very steep price I'd want Jesus Sanchez included in any Tampa Bay deal. He's 19 and dripping with talent Austin Franklin is an interesting young arm Adames + Honeywell + any two of Bauers/Gillespie/Lowe/Sanchez/Franklin would be a nice package of talent for the White Sox Doubtful TB has the stones to pull off something like that though. They rely too heavily on their farm to stock the mlb roster to deplete it in a Q deal
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Uh...the Red Sox did before the trade. The Nationals before the Eaton deal as well, maybe the Dodgers, Brewers, Padres, Braves, and Yankees too. My point isn't that Hahn got robbed in this trade. Moncada and Kopech at the front end were great gets. I'm simply saying he probably could've gotten one more impact piece had he been a little more persistent in the negotiations. Basabe is a solid prospect in his own right Luis Alexander Basabe - 20 years old Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50 If the hit tool can develop any further we could be looking at a starting caliber center fielder You have to face it that Boston was not going to include another top 15 organizational prospect after Moncada, Kopech and Basabe Diaz is a decent lottery ticket with a big fastball. If he develops into a serviceable middle reliever that would be great
  4. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) I believe Sale is worth 3 top 50 prospects. I feel like the Sox might have been able to pry Devers away had the Price injury happened earlier but I guess it wasn't meant to be. There is a difference between a "top 50 prospect" and the #1 or #2 prospect in baseball Other than Benintendi, Moncada is arguably the most prized prospect in baseball right now Kopech is a top 20 mlb prospect Basabe is a top 150 mlb prospect, possibly top 100 with a good season Diaz is an interesting throw in with a 70 grade fastball. Could turn into a relief option? Devers was never going to be included in this deal, as Boston knew that their package was better than the Nationals
  5. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) I would have preferred Benentendi and Devers to Moncada and Kopech based on what the team needs. Benintendi was never on the table as far as we know, and there is no way the Sox were not going to get at least one quality pitching prospect back as a headliner for Sale. Getting Kopech was a very important piece of the deal.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) This won't happen. He is going to be out there getting shelled so we can hold off on rushing Giolito, Lopez, and Fulmer and also delaying a year of service time on them. And I forgot who the tweet was from (it was posted here somewhere) but Rodon may not even be ready by Opening Day. They are not going to cut Shields, no matter how bad he is this season Sox still owe him about $10 million this year and next and are not going to flush $20 million down the drain while rebuilding. He needs to eat innings.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Could falter? Yeah, some will fail. This is when the rebuild gets real for many people. Not all of these guys will pan out, that is a given. But by continuing to add talented players with high upside to our system we are building towards a better future for the organization Rebuilding is going to take time, the team will likely not be competitive for the next three seasons, but beyond that we could be a very talented team The 2016 draft class seems promising, and following that up with a solid 2017 draft will help as well
  8. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Any reports on how Robertson has looked this spring? I think he has a chance to bounce back pretty significantly after being fully healed from his knee injury and could really build his value backup for a midseason trade. I'm not too concerned about the Sox finding suitors for Robertson mid season if he is healthy and performing as he is capable of. Sox could always kick in some cash to land a nice package?
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) The admiration for a trade proposal that was basically what was reported prior (I don't think Dunning was offered, I think people are just assuming he was a part of it because he came over the next day, the rumored deal was Giolito/Lopez/Robles), when just 3 short months ago this was a very polarizing offer for Sale. We are leaving the romantic period where we could have had any prospect, and every prospect will be perfect, to now the scary period where the ones we picked could falter and ones we passed on will succeed. It would be really nice if Moncada and Kopech out of the gate just destroy their levels. I'm still very confident in Moncada and Kopech to perform this season Moncada only played 45 games at AA, and should get plenty of time at AAA to develop. He is not mlb ready just yet. Kopech needs reps at high A or AA and should stay there most of the season. 100+ innings pitched is a great goal for him
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) This is funny now. When a deal surrounding Robles/Giolito/Lopez was being discussed immediately preceding the trade, people were very against trading for a 19 year old who had not shown much power as the prime position player. I'd rather have Moncada over Robles at this point. Moncada has shown he can handle AA pitching and solid power. Robles is further away in his development, but has yet to show much in the way of power I like both prospects, but given a choice I'll take Moncada
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:54 AM) The Nationals supposedly offered all four of Robles, Giolito, Dunning, & Lopez for Sale. That's a huge package and one you could make an argument for being better overall the Red Sox's package. I think it's pretty obvious the Sox wanted Moncada and were willing to take lesser second & third pieces as long as they got a second stud in the deal. I doubt the Nats offered all four of Robles, Giolito, Lopez and Dunning. That would be a monster haul that Hahn would have a tough time saying no to. Three top fifty prospects and one top 150 prospect is a king's ransom for Sale The Sox really like the potential of Moncada and Kopech though, plus Basabe is an interesting prospect Hard to say which package I'd rather have, but since we got almost as much for Eaton it's hard to say Hahn did not do his best
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) Interesting read on what it took to get to the Sale deal. http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/218...ris-sale-trade/ Red Sox were not going to bid against themselves and include Devers for Sale fully knowing that a Moncada/Kopech headlined deal was not going to be beat Washington likely offered something along the lines of Robles + Giolito as a headlined deal plus Dunning. Sox preferred the Moncada/Kopech and then suggested Basabe and Diaz to round it out Sox then quickly flipped Eaton for Giolito + Lopez + Dunning for Eaton as the Nationals were only willing to part with Robles for Sale
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Yes, and they probably told the league to do whatever they wanted because they knew the rebuild was happening. Hopefully when it's time to win, they get some favors. It's a good thing for a chance. April and May weather is usually not great for Chicago baseball and it's better to have more home games later in the summer
  14. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) His closest friend is the almighty dollar. Whatever deal offers the most cheddar is where he'll sign. Sox do present a good opportunity to break the mlb roster sooner, rather than later I could see the Sox being willing to spend to get Robert if they think he is an impact talent
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Colleen Kane‏ @ChiTribKane 2h2 hours ago Michael Kopech said he expects to throw in a sim game Tuesday rather than today. Reynaldo Lopez starting at Diamondbacks. I'm fine with bringing Kopech along slow. He really needs coaching and reps to improve. He has not thrown many minor league innings and should be handling an increased workload this season. Over 100 innings is a good goal for him
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) The arm issues he supposedly had last year that hadn't been mentioned until today are definitely concerning. Hoping for the best... It's possible they don't want to abuse Rodon in a season where we aren't going to compete. Asking him to throw over 200 innings would be a mistake. We need to make sure to keep him heathy and trust the training staff
  17. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 05:31 PM) As long as they have people in Charlotte that can improve him. I am sure Hahn has a plan in place to make sure there are people and translators in place to work with him. He actually may have his own translator since that is something Boston was big on. I would keep all top prospects down until June 2018 to secure additional control and allow them to develop in the minors. Moncada needs reps before making the jump, as do Lopez, kopech and giolito
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) The clock is ticking Bruce Levine. March 10th is one week from today. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock... Not expecting Boston to come calling for Q. It would be a better idea to give their depth a chance to step up and re-evaluate their rotation in June. Wouldn't be surprised if sports writers come out with articles about how the Yanks should increase their level of interest for Q. Hard to say what a Boston for Q package would even look like at this point Devers would be an absolute must to headline, along with Groome being the second piece. Groome is very young and likely does not fit into our timeline as a prospect Can't see it happening
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) #3 seems pretty fair to me. While our system is dramatically improved from last March, I wouldn't put us top 3 right now due to a lack of depth Our system has nice talent in the top 10, but gets significantly less interesting beyond that Landing a player like Robert, drafting well this season and a few trades (Quintana/Robertson) could really boost the system further
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) The Yankees should make a move now, and get a head start on the now flawed RedSox by taking the only #1 level pitcher on the market right now. I think they have a pretty good team as it is. They have quality in the low minors which should appeal to the Sox on currrent timeline. Toughest thing about Price potentially going down is the sheer number of innings he gave the Red Sox. It's not easy to replace a guy who pitched 230 innings for you last season, even with internal options. Losing that workhorse hurts a ton if he misses any significant time I highly doubt they would get into the mix for Quintana. It would raid the rest of an already weakened farm system
  21. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Correct. He was given every chance in 2016. This really will be Avi's last shot to prove himself at the MLB level We have nothing to lose in a rebuilding season to trot him out there to see what he's got
  22. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Not greedy Red Sox. We'll take Benintendi please. Zero chance the Red Sox move Benintendi (would you?), even if Price is out for the season The Red Sox farm has taken big hits after trading for Sale, Pomeranz and Thornburg
  23. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 05:32 PM) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Clyde This is just one name that came to mind for me, as I'm sure there are plenty of others out there. While this is true in certain sports (NHL, NBA {NCAAF is practically the minor leagues}), baseball isn't one of those. Players are all different, some learn and adjust significantly quicker than others, some take much longer to develop, but each case would be unique and needs to be handled individually. Putting someone in a situation that they aren't necessarily ready for would be detrimental to development and confidence. Not everyone can be thrown to the wolves because "you can either hit big league pitching or you can't". The NHL actually has a pretty well developed minor league system in the AHL Young players typically need to spend several seasons at that level before being ready to play in the NHL. I would not consider that a great example. The NBA D-League is pretty much a joke, so I think that applies to a league that doesn't really have a developed minor league system. Same with the NFL.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Me neither. They'd still have Sale, Porcello, Pomeranz, Wright and Rodriquez. They just wouldn't have the strong 3 like they wanted. He's seeing the TJ specialist Dr. James Andrews. Price is seeing Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion...not good news for the Red Sox at all They have the depth to deal with this, but it always hurts losing one of your top starters
  25. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) David Price undergoes MRI for soreness in his elbow. Wouldn't it be insane if he was going to miss a lot of time and the Red Sox came calling for Q? haha Very unlikely, I know, but would be insane. Red Sox actually have enough depth that they could probably withstand a Price injury and still be contenders Can't see them being willing to drain the farm anymore though
