  1. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 15, 2017 -> 07:49 AM) Suggestions: Put players on there that are currently on the squad like Quintana, Abreu, Frazier? Or should we put the kids on there like Moncada, Giolito, Kopech, Collins? I get the argument for current players, but given the direction of the franchise I think the kids might be more suitable The future of the franchise is undoubtedly in their hands, they have the keys to the kingdom. Count me in for the kids.
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Agree. Wacha would be the smart thing to do. The Cards can always look to add a pitcher during the season if Wacha doesn't perform. The big concern is the overall health of the rotation. Question marks certainly exist, and most of their pitching prospects are not choose to the MLB. They can afford a Reyes injury, but if another starter goes down they will have issues
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Entertaining the idea of the Cards looking into Gonzalez, I wonder if Sierra would be too much to ask for. Interesting thought. Sierra plus a lottery ticket would be a nice package for Gonzalez It's likely they roll with watcha though
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Personally I am not a huge fan of trading your best asset for a guy who just went down for Tommy John. Call me crazy. Way to risky, plus I don't think the Cardinals are looking to move the package it would take. Sox are being rightfully selective about the quintana trade, and a Reyes based package makes little sense. Even if Reyes interested the sox, I don't like their other prospects enough to make a deal happen
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) It would be tempting to trade for him and send Q to St. Louis. Q helps them win now. The Sox get a potential better pitcher next year. The odds are highly likely that he returns to form after the surgery. It is a gamble but not really much of one. I highly doubt the sox would accept an injured pitcher as the primary headliner in a quintana deal. Even if the risk is small, why take it? STL still has watcha to be its fifth starter
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Don't see Cards as a match at all. Outside of Reyes, they have no top 50 guys. Also can't see them unloading farm after losing their picks Reyes getting injured is not likely to result in St Louis deciding to pursue a major trade like Quintana Also, I think the Sox are interested solely in elite prospects in exchange for Quintana, and beyond Reyes their system does not currently have any
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Apparently Reyes could be out for the year, so St. Louis might jump back into the Q sweepstakes after all. Very doubtful STL does not have the farm system past Reyes to get a deal done in my opinion
  8. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 11, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Harold Reynolds, commenting on Moncada at #2, said he felt he should go north w Sox and learn on the job rather than at AAA. He felt playing in Boston last year should benefit him despite the poor showing because of exposure to guys like Ortiz and Pedroia. Reynolds is a moron I do not care if Moncada homers in EVERY single at bat in spring training, the Sox must wait until late May to call him up so they do not start his service clock and gain and extra season of team control The Sox are not contenders this season, why burn a year of control for any of our top prospects?
  9. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) MLB retweeted LangoschMLB's avatar Jenifer Langosch @LangoschMLB 1m #STLCards have not specified what the area of concern is with Reyes, but Matheny did say: "There must be a significant reason to do this." Wow, that would be a major blow to the Cardinals if he has to miss an extended period of time. They were counting on him to be rotation ready in 2017
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) I'm so excited for this guy. My predictions - 8-4, 2.61 ERA, 178 K's, 1.18 WHIP, 13.7 K/9, in 18 starts (3 with Winston Salem, 11 with Birmingham, 4 with Charlotte) Innings will probably be monitored for him, so he might not go very deep into his starts, but I expect him to post ridiculous K numbers in 2017. That would be an absolutely phenomenal 2017 season for Kopech if he ends the season in Charlotte Realistically I think he starts the season in high A Charlotte, eventually earning the promotion to AA at some point A 13.7 K/9 is nuts, but I'd really like to see him improve his walk rate this season, all while building up his innings total Getting the BB/9 below 4.0 per nine would be a step forward, as would pitching more than 100 innings and staying healthy
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) I didn't know this would become a thing in the thread. But I like it. I absolutely am not suggesting he should be put in the pen right away. He absolutely should be given the chance to start. Realistically, I think he ends up in the pen, albeit with the potential to be an electric arm in setup or closing role
  12. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Feb 9, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) 89-74 with a wildcard birth Frazier, Abreu and Shields all regain forms from 2 years ago Q and Rodon take another step forward Tilson has a better than expected rookie season Robertson stops blowing saves Moncada gets called up in June and tear s*** up Drinking the coolaid by the gallon^^^
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) I understand that. I said myself if I had to choose it would 've been Benintendi over Moncada but since the thread is about the Baseball prospectus list which ranks Moncada at 5 it's not just Benintendi. I don't think Moncada has been a universal #2 pick on the other lists either though I am not 100 % sure of that. Moncada seems to have a higher ceiling, while Benintendi appears to have a higher floor It is likely that both are excellent players
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) Why the f*** can't the Sox take Bastardo if that's the deal-breaker right now? Meadows is the dealbreaker A yankees - pirates three way trade likely had Glasnow + Frazier + more coming to the Sox the Pirates alone are not willing to include Meadows in the deal, and without him the Sox are not really all that interested in moving forward
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Eating money is a necessity to doing a legitimate rebuild. While they've never eaten salary (that I can remember) for players they traded away, they have done so recently for players they dumped for nothing. They also took on salary for a bad player last June. So it wouldn't make sense for ownership not to let Hahn eat money to get better prospects. Why eat money if we do not have to? The Nationals want to keep their best prospects off the table in a Robertson deal? Ok, fine. But we are not also going to kick in salary relief for no reason just to help them out. Money is a negotiating point. If the Nats wants cash, then send better prospects to Chicago Hell, I'm sure most of Soxtalk would eat Robertson's entire contract for Robles + another prospect or two (not happening)
  16. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Well, see, that's exactly why I made the point of saying I wasn't comparing him in anything but stature and criticism thereof. As for the Cueto thing, well, are you saying you would feel more optimistic about Lopez if he were fatter? (Fat emoji??) I'm just asking for posters to make a list of current mlb starting pitchers who are 6' or less and also 185 lbs or less I guaranty you that is a very short list
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Never in a million years would one think that Q's contract would be a problem for a team lol As fans we have to remember that this is still a business first and foremost. While dollars and cents might not matter very much to fans, they especially do at the ownership level I don't think it was the Pirates who backed out at the ownership level, I think it was the Yankees The Nats are in a tough spot, and might be forced into giving up a significant prospect or two to coax the White Sox into helping eat some of Robertson's salary
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) Two different trades died at the ownership approval level (other team's) according to Hahn. Have to guess it was Q and Robertson http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/whit...p;post-id=85363 I think the Quintana 3 way trade with the Yankees and Pirates fell apart at the last minute Xmas Eve I also feel that the Robertson deal fell apart at the ownership level of the Nationals who were unwilling to expand payroll and move the prospects. They want to Sox to pick up a large amount of the contract, to which Hahn flatly is telling them "no"
  19. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Lopez is 6'0 -185 Pedro Martinez 5'11-170 There were a whole bunch of experts that thought Pedro was destined for the pen because of his size. That is why he was available in a trade, twice. In no way am I saying Lopez is the next Pedro. I am saying that pitchers can be great regardless of height and build. It'd be quite a bungle in the jungle to banish him to the pen too quickly. Comparing Lopez to one of the best starting pitchers of all time is a huge reach http://www.fangraphs.com/community/six-fee...short-pitchers/ The odds are just not great that a pitcher like Lopez will stick as a starter long term. Johnny Cueto is 5'11, but is also 215 lbs
  20. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Robertson's value is at an all-time low. I'd prefer to see the White Sox risk holding him until the deadline. Not necessarily Dealing Robertson right now allows us to showcase Nate Jones for a deadline deal, which could be very lucrative if he pitches like he did in 2016
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Still not a fan of that upright, lack of follow through. It does help with command however. He's one that will be interesting to follow his injury history. Lopez will more than likely end up as a reliever. Very few starting pitchers with his size and frame have held up as starters. I hope that I am wrong, but I still feel he could be a dynamic reliever for us
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Cmon Nats, make another impulse purchase and live to regret it later! We all do it. They did this to themselves really. Part of having a window of contention means that you have to make difficult choices that likely impact your future ability to compete. When it is your time to win, go all in. I think a deal eventually gets done, and I think Soxtalk will be pleased with the overall return
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/renteri...-job-to-do/amp/ David Robertson also has value as a proven closer and set-up man and is at or near the contending Washington Nationals’ priority list. Some believe Robertson could go this week, if the two sides come to an agreement on prospects going to the Sox in return and the amount of salary the Nationals are willing to pay. Robertson has $11 million and $12 million on the last two years of his four-year deal, and the Sox historically are not big on eating contract dollars. The ball is the the Nationals court at this point White Sox absolutely are open to moving Robertson, but not unless the prospect return is considerable I'm guessing the Nationals are taking a hard look at 3 choices: 1) Stand pat and enter the 2017 season with a closer by committee approach. Hugely volatile and could prove costly on a team in a two year window. Deadline additions might be extremely costly (think Robles). 2) Trade 2-3 decent prospects and absorb the entire remaining contract 3) Trade 2-3 higher quality prospects and the Sox kick in some money They really are in a tough spot, as the farm is nowhere near as deep as it used to be after trading for Eaton. With a rapidly closing window Rizzo will likely need to bite the bullet and offer up more than he is comfortable with to get a deal done.
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Very cool seeing him on a top 100 list for the first time! Nice getting Hansen some love, but I feel like he has to prove more to be considered a top 100 prospect He blew away rookie ball hitters, but still needs to show more control against better competition
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Juan Soto is a guy I really want. He's pretty much my age so that means that he should be debuting right around when the Sox are good again. Sign me up. We all would love to net Soto from the Nats in a Robertson deal, but I don't see Washington being willing to part with Robles, Fedde or Soto
