  1. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) Arietta is in the last year of his contract, Lackey is 36, Lester is not young. You could make a case that Quintana is a fit for the Cubs. Lackey is 38 and nearing the end of his career Arrieta is likely gone in free agency Cubs will need to address at least two starters via trade or free agency. I doubt a high profile trade goes down for Quintana.
  2. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) Last year I was clammoring for them to use him as a starter, or at least try to. But since then, it seemed that never became an option. Really hoping this report is true and they give him a shot to start. 7 of his last 8 appearances were 2 IP appearances. Not much to lose in having him try starting for awhile. If we were contending in 2017 I'd rather see him out of the pen, but now that we're rebuilding why not?
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) You gotta stop with all the love Mike. People will begin to suspect a bromance brewing. Seriously though. Right back at ya big guy. I enjoy reading your posts and your enthusiasm for all things White Sox is awesome. Just don't become too cynical of the Sox like the rest of us sad old f***s. Hahaha great posts Once Quintana gets dealt we can preemptively start the "who should the sox draft number 11 overall?" Thread
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) The circles and circles Soxtalk has gone on this Q trade is impressive. All realistic teams covered. Packages analyzed and discussed. Man oh man, does it need a new meaningful transaction. Totally We really need to just be put out of our misery soon
  5. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) It would highly benefit the Sox FO to at least have the Cubs in the conversation. It doesnt even have to be serious just enough that other clubs have a motivation to push in more chips to make sure the Cubs dont just swoop in on Q. Pretty sure we are open to a Cubs deal Jimenez, Happ, Candelario and Cease/Zagunis would be a nice package
  6. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) I wonder how many 300+ page Q trade threads there will be before Q is traded. Alot Nothing much else going on in the baseball world right now Lets hope Ross signing with the Rangers pushes the market a bit, as no other starting pitching options (quality ones) really exist (Hammel? yuck)
  7. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) One that didnt go the Cubs way. The humanity. Very interesting I wonder if this pushes the Astros to make a move for Quintana Or the Cubs for that matter? Lackey and Arrieta are free agents and both are likely to leave after this season
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) After reading that bit by the scout, Acuna sounds like he could be a hitter like Dunn or Carter. Low BA, High K-rate and plenty of power. Now that I think about it, take away Acuna's walks and he looks alot like Tank on paper. I know Acuna has tons of helium but IMHO, he's only good enough to be a third piece in a deal for Q. Acuna's top 50 Fansided ranking seems a bit high to me Third piece at best due to the risk
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) So other than the fact he is hopeless at hitting a baseball sounds like a major leaguer...wait what http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospect...ort=d&dir=d These are excellent eyewitness scouting reports (free) on various players Alec Hansen came up with a 55 Future grade, although it's early to tell. Guys I really like are: Franklin Perez with a 55 and a 70 future grade. I expect him to shoot up prospect lists this season.
  10. QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) The Rangers had no qualms about trading Demeritte for Lucas freaking Harrell. He isn't good enough to be a substantial piece for Q. Maybe in as a throw in like Diaz in the Sale trade. Likely due to Demeritte's 30-40 grade hit tool and long swing If he adjusts the rest of the tools exist for him to be a starter. It's arguably toughest for a guy to make a 30-40 grade hit tool play upto average than any other tool. His arm strength is good and he could potentially play third base in the future, but he's seen as a very risky prospect that might never make it out of AA ball http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospect...hp?reportid=365 This scout is not convinced he sees Demeritte ever being able to hit .240 in the majors
  11. QUOTE (ypres @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) 220/280/440. 3 HR, 12 SB Yikes, that would be awful Not sure how Anderson's bat would regress that much to be a .220 hitter with his speed I'd like to see Anderson steal more often in 2017 and put that speed to use
  12. QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) It sounds alot like a Javy Baez comp. I'd rather see Acuna as a 3rd piece but... Albies, Newcomb, Demeritte, Gohara/Fried? There's just a lot to choose from in the Braves system, it's crazy. Dustin Peterson is a guy that raked in AA this year and can't crack their top 10. Would probably between 7-10 for the Sox. Braves are not giving us Albies + Newcomb + Demeritte + Gohara/Fried That is three top 75 prospects (according to fansided) plus Demeritte I can't see Atlanta punting so much of its future like that, even for Quintana
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Red flags exist for a lot of prospects. A 30% k rate is concerning, but much more concerning without walks. Kris Bryant k'd 30% of the time in AAA. He isn't just a good hitter he's an MVP. Demeritte has a 13% walk rate. High walk/High power, good d, high k is still a major leaguer. It's not enough to completely write him off as a 3rd piece in a deal. I'll give you that Demeritte looked solid in the AFL, and could be worth a look as a third piece. Certainly too risky for a 1st or 2nd piece though in my opinion Kris Bryant did not have a 40 hit tool though like Demeritte
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:39 PM) Astros - need more; switch out Paulino Pirates - add on back end Yankees- not sure; nix to Judge Rockies - Absolutely Yes I'd rather have AJ Reed and Franklin Perez than Paulino AJ Reed is expendable for the Astros, as he will likely not crack the major league roster unless injuries occur Perez is a ways from the majors, but pitching in A ball at age 18 is impressive Tucker/Martes/Reed/Perez = Deal Pirates = Glasnow or Meadows must be in the deal + Keller + Newman + lower level prospect (Ideally Diaz) Pirates offer sounds like asking alot, but adding Quintana and taking nothing off the major league roster would be a great move for them Yankees = they are out in my opinion. They tried to float Judge/Mateo as headlienrs and the Sox said no way Rockies = Dahl + Rodgers + one lower level flyer would be terrific. Doubtful they do this though
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) Demeritte K's a lot but has a good walk rate. I think the bigger question will be his "off the field" issues, and that's a thing where I'm working at such an info disadvantage it's hard to care about in speculation. Bmags, the issue I see is that high walk rate is likely to decrease facing AA / AAA pitchers with better control the K% rate is likely to increase 33% against A ball pitching does not bode well in the higher levels. Can he improve? Maybe, but the red flags exist
  16. QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) I retract my last proposal. Drinking the Acuna kool-aid a bit too much right now. Albies would need to be in a Braves deal. Haha no worries Eventually all this speculation starts to warp our brains as we lose sense of value Dig into a prospect long enough and eveybody sucks haha
  17. QUOTE (pablo @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) Albies, Newcomb, Acuna would be a very enticing package to start with. Someone brought up Demeritte earlier and I would definitely have interest in him. He K's at a such a crazy rate though. I think it was north of 30% or something. But a package of Newcomb, Acuna, Fried/Gohara, Demeritte would be interesting depending on what you believe Acuna's future is. No "headliner" in the deal, but Acuna is rocketing up prospect charts. Newcomb/Acuna isn't headlining a Quintana deal Newcomb's control is a big question mark. I like hi mas a prospect, but as a second piece. Acuna is very far from the majors, too risky to headline or be more than a third piece Albies would undoubtedly have to be in the deal Demeritte strikes out way too much for me. Posting a 33% K rate in high A ball is beyond alarming. AA and AAA pitching will eat him alive unless he gets the strikeouts under control.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Astros - No thanks, too many injury questions around Paulino. Pirates - thats workable but would need another projectable arm like Hearn Yankees - Not even close - Judge is going to be a bad MLB player, Mateo and Tate both took big steps back, and Rutherford has no AB's outside of rookie ball Rockies - Really good start, but need a little more quantity to mitigate the bust likelihood for Rogers, throw in a couple low level lottery ticket arms To move on Quintana, the Sox are looking for 2 top thirty prospect caliber players, plus 1 - 2 additional good prospects (Top 150) Astros Deal = Martes and Tucker have to be in the deal, beyond that I don't love their system as Paulino/Fisher have valid concerns, Whitley is very far from the majors, as is Perez. Reed looked terrible during his 2016 48 game call up. Yankees deal = Yankees' prospects are regularly overrated. Frazier has slipped out of the top 30, Torres into the top 10. Mateo and Judge's stock are down. Rutherford is at least 3 years from the majors. Rockies deal = An extremely good start, but we have not heard any rumors of the Rockies being willing to move top prospects Pirates deal = Bell is a DH in my opinion, with a solid bat, but his defense is not good. Pittsburgh likely wants to keep Bell.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) According to this, that is 3 top 25 names. Also a bunch of the Braves guys that have been discussed that weren't top 100 guys are now. Braves system definitely gets a boost I think Newcomb should have slipped a bit further down due to control issues, maybe #50-60 range Acuna is way up, but I'm not willing to call him a top #50 prospect so soon. He's young for his level, but I'd put him in the 50-100 range until midseason 2017
  20. QUOTE (ypres @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) Where is our farm system ranked now, do you think? Top 10ish? Right now? Top 5 After a Quintana trade we should be #1
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) Thanks for posting this and especially for listing key prospects and their rankings. Sucks the articles are on a site like that though, I can't stand the sites that make you click page anfter page to get their advert hits. Thankfully the OP posted the important names and I didn't have to pay!At the ad clicky game. Interesting how Meadows and Glasnow exit the top ten. Looking forward to when MLB pipeline updates their top 100 and co made it to Fansided's list. No problem BlackSox13, my pleasure Figured it gives us something to analyze that is recently updated We all are waiting on the New MLB.com top 100 for sure to compare
  22. QUOTE (Whitesoxa6 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) .305/.365/.515 34 Homers, 102 rbi If the second half Abreu shows up he will be a pimp next year I think he will be just fine and bounce back big time .310 - 32 - 115 rbi .368 OBP
  23. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Meadows, Keller and Newman. Lets get it done! According to the fansided article, the Sox did extremely well in the Sale and Eaton deals #1 Moncada and #22 Kopech + Basabe and Diaz is a great haul #10 Lopez and #12 Giolito + Dunning is also great Sox likely aren't backing off a Meadows + Glasnow or Keller headlined package
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) Too bad they don't have it in a better format than that awful slideshow garbage. I know right?! The content is pretty well done for the most part...except when I read about Josh Bell's "elite" defense at first base. He fell all the way to #85, likely due to his subpar defense. A few big risers and a few big fallers as well
  25. http://calltothepen.com/?s=top+125+prospects New Fansided articles ranking the 2017 pre season top 125 mlb prospects seems to really love the White Sox #1 Yoan Moncada #10 Reynaldo Lopez #12 Lucas Giolito #22 Michael Kopech #60 Zack Collins #76 Zack Burdi #113 Alec Hansen #115 Carson Fulmer Also noteworthy: #20 Brendan Rodgers - He slips out of the top #15 #19 Kyle Tucker - Tucker moves into the top 20 prospects. He's young for his level, but the power has not materialized as of yet. #17 Austin Meadows - Meadows slips out of the top 15, partially due to injury concerns. Still a very good prospect when healthy. #14 Tyler Glasnow - Holds steady #11 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - He rockets up into the top 15 #8 Yadier Alvarez - Rockets up into the top 10 #6 Eloy Jimenez - Into the top 10 #47 Francis Martes - Some felt his changeup regressed in 2016 and feel he will be a future reliever #44 Ronald Acuna - rockets into the top 50 #34 Clint Frazier - Slips due to AAA callup struggles #26 Mitch Keller - Rockets into the top 30. Excellent control, will be turned loose in 2017 Posted this in FutureSox forum, but it's relevant here as well I feel due to the number of Sox prospects on the list, and trade discussions
