  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) This would also be a nice haul. Torres and Rutherford might be our two top position prospects before Moncada was traded for. I'm sure the Yankees would prefer to include Mateo over Torres, but the White Sox would see right through that That would still leave the Yankees with Frazier, Mateo, Judge, Kaprielian, Acevedo, Sheffield, Fowler in their farm system...plenty of quality prospects still if they dealt Torres + Rutherford + Andujar + Adams/Montgomery Alot to give up, sure, but they have enough depth to deal with it
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Clearly you can see I'm losing my mind as well All we need is for the Rockies and a mystery club to jump into the rumor mill and we have full on pandemonium So far Astros, Pirates and Yankees have been strongly connected to Quintana
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) Torres, Rutherford, Acevedo, and Fowler for Q and DRob and I'm happy Torres + Rutherford + Andujar + Adams or Montgomery is a solid package
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) I feel like i"ve said this a thousand times, but the Ken Giles and Kimbrel trades both happened in offseason and both were prospect heavy toward seller. I don't think Deadline helps that much. BMags, I am totally fine with offloading Robertson and letting Jones close if the right deal comes across That being said, I do not want us to give Robertson away. I see this all as testing the waters to see which club will blink and offer up an "untouchable" prospect or two The Red Sox insisted Moncada was off the table...until he became on the table.
  5. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Why are you acting like Robertson has a lot of value? Robertson adds a couple of B level prospects to the end of the deal. His name shouldn't even be mentioned with Frazier and Torres. Getting both is indeed crazy talk Robertson does have value as the only decent closer available right now via trade, with the exception of Colome. Bullpen help always comes at a deadline premium, and a solid season from Robertson could make him very valuable mid season. The White Sox have refused to deal him for B level prospects, given that NO other closers are really on the market right now.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) Getting Torres and Frazier is crazy talk. Getting one of them is probably a requirement for 4 years of Q though. Torres/Rutherford ++ would be fantastic deal. Not necessarily If Robertson is included in the deal, along with some cash, I could see that being enough to justify Torres + Frazier headlining a deal to the White Sox Remember, the cost to acquire a #1 or #2 starting pitcher in free agency is absurd, even for the Yankees. Quintana's deal is a steal. With multiple suitors, Hahn is driving the pricetag up as high as possible.
  7. QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Agreed! Perhaps the most encouraging White Sox development this offseason has been the maturation of Rick Hahn as GM. Hahn is clearly one intelligent dude, but it seems he's learning to use his brains and resources and THEN let the market come to him. Don't chase. Don't telegraph. Don't be KW. His maturation is analogous to a toolsy, but undisciplined hitter who finally learns to swing mostly at pitches where he can do damage. Robertson is a decent closer, who sometimes flashes brilliant, but when he's on he has value as a decent closer and a strong set-up guy. Jones has the velo everybody looks for, and when HE is on, he's got that knee-buckling slider too. Jones also has the Eaton-Quintana advantage (solid + player whose value slots up because of a great contract). Neither are Chapman or Miller, but both can have strong value at the trade deadline. I have little doubt that various GMs - including Dombrowski and Rizzo -- haven't tried to deal for these guys and price them as throw-ins. They are anything but. I'm happy to see Hahn knows the value of his assets, prices them accordingly, and is showing he'll wheel and deal, but at a reasonable price. (And BTW ... spare me the national press that Hahn fleeced Rizzo, or even Dombrowski. In both cases, he demanded very strong prospects for established valuable big leaguers. He found trade partners who were willing to pay a reasonable price, either because of team circumstances or otherwise. Just because many other GMs have begun serious prospect "over-huggers" does not mean GMs like Rizzo or Dombrowski are making horrible or poor deals. They're dipping into strength to purchase established strength. And that's the way it should be. Bravo Rick Hahn .. finally, and so far.) We did not "fleece" anyone, agreed. Both the Red Sox and Nationals were able to improve their mlb roster substantially without subtracting from the 2017 lineup. That always has to be considered a sensible move.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 09:53 AM) Honestly, I think he IS if it is a deal with a ton of depth instead of one that is top-heavy like we usually expect. The strength of the Yankees system is that it is chock full of guys like that. Rutherford/Kaprielian/Mateo/Sheffield, for example, would be a pretty amazing haul. A solid haul, but it is missing the marquee headliner to get a deal done If the Yankees do not make Torres and/or Frazier available I don't see a deal happening. Quintana + Robertson should net both of them Mateo's stock has slipped after a mediocre 2016, I no longer view him as a top 50 mlb prospect. Judge's stock is down a bit too after striking out at an alarming rate in 2016. Robertson will have good value at the deadline, I don't love the idea of including him in a potential deal unless it lands us both Torres and Frazier as headliners
  9. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) if we give the best starter, closer available + money, isnt that worth torres+frazier +more? Yes, I am not trading Quintana and Robertson to the Yankees for a package short of Torres + Frazier ++ and those ++ had better be quality pieces This all reeks of the White Sox swirling the rumor pot to get Pirates/Yankees/Astros/Rockies/etc to up their offer
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) I think the question isn't if Robertson is worth one of those guys on his own. The question is would Robertson being in a deal push the front line guy from a guy like Rutherford to a guy like Torres, or would it maybe force it to be two headliners plus two other guys, instead of one headliner and three other guys. Rutherford is not a good enough prospect to headline a Quintana deal on his own. He would be a second piece and Frazier and/or Torres (preferably Torres) would be the main headliner
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) I don't think Jones and Robo are valued remotely close to one another by the Sox. I think the Sox would move Jones, but only for a Ken Giles top return including an elite prospect and at least 1 more top 100 type. Bullpen help at the deadline comes at a huge cost. Better to wait and deal them mid season
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Yeah, that's a good point, but I think the optics of those two deals may be impacting things more than actual liquidity. There are teams that have the assets and that actually should be in a position to move them, but I feel like they are refusing to pay the same price because of the optics. It may just be a matter of waiting them out a bit longer while they try to play it cute. No reason to compromise, every other team saw the sale return and have high asking prices as well. Sox will insist on meadows plus glasnow or Keller centerpiece a deal, plus Newman is likely. Pirates can balk, but that is their loss. They won't be able to afford free agent pitching help anytime soon
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 09:47 PM) I just don't understand why the Sox would trade proven Quintana for an unproven right hander who has walked tons of guys at every level. I just watched his start against StL and was unimpressed. Sits 92-94 from the right side and is definitely wild. CIN touched him up twice. Why is this frickin guy supposed to be our prize. The guy we got Lopez blows this stooge out of the water. At least he has electric stuff and is wild. Glasnow has lame stuff and is wild. Glasnow can be a stud in time. If he can improve his control he has frontline starter potential
  14. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) ? Glasnow is easily the best of those 3. Dominated at every level of the minors and didn't even do that bad in his first callup with everything going wrong for him. Not high on meadows. Fills a need I just don't think he's anything special. I don't think the pirates want to trade meadows or bell. Meadows is their cf of the future and bell will contribute right away at the MLB level. Prospects that very well could be in play : Glasnow, Newman, Keller, Hayes, Craig, tucker, Diaz, etc I think the issue is the white sox would require four of those guys in a Quintana deal, too high of a price for them. If they can move cutch they can help offset the prospect cost by including what they get for him.
  15. QUOTE (staxx @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) I would take Severino for Robertson for sure Maybe, but I think Robertson might have motor value at the deadline than he does right now
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) MLB's eight potential trades has three Sox deals. All of those offers are terrible Sox would reject every one of those
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Except the free agent market is a little more saturated with pitchers next year plus the changes in team compensation probably decreases the chances he would get traded next offseason if he's still around. The Trade Deadline probably wouldnt happen either. Alot of these guys they are probably asking for will be playing. We've already seen how hesitant teams are to trade players that are contributing on the club in the middle of the season. So the previous post was correct. They need to trade him now if they actually want to. Hahn will take his time in getting the right haul for their final blue chip trade piece
  18. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Couldn't disagree more. It's all speculation dude. Half a year of Samdazjiezyeahhh got the too SS prospect in the game, the number four prospect in baseball at the time. No one knows what we could get now, or at the deadline, or next year, or in three years. Only thing that isn't speculative is this: if Quintana keeps pitching the way he has - he'all always be in demand and will always command a haul. Sox could get a ton at the deadline or next offseason, but most likely he gets dealt fairly soon
  19. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 24, 2016 -> 11:24 PM) Completely hypothetical 3 way with Jays and Pirates: Jays get Cutch Pirates get Q, Reid-Foley Sox get Glasnow, Newman, Vlad Jr., & Tellez Seems steep for the blue jays, and light for the pirates to give up
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 24, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) Pirates the trade Marte to open up salary for Jones. (Am I joking?) I'd be so pissed if I were a pirates fan to hear Quintanas contract is an issue
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) Getting the feeling that nothing is all that close to being finalized. We haven't heard anything about talks advancing. I still have a feeling Houston finds a way to get a deal done. Maybe martes/tucker/reed/perez
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Do the Sox take on McCutchen and then flip him if he truly is a salary dump for the Pirates? If so, what kind of package could come back with him for Q? I don't see the sox taking mccutchen back. They want prospects in return.
  23. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Probably watching Bregman and Meadows, and saying why didn't we make THAT happen? There is zero chance the Astros were ever going to deal bregman, even for sale. He'll be their third baseman long term
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Now that's close. I'll probably say Rutherford, but won't judge anyone who says Tucker. I think Rutherford will be that good though. No joke here, after the Quintana deal finally happens, what are we going to talk about all off-season? Or just sit back and admire our new prospect toys and stacked farm system?
  25. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Question to fill the time: Who would you guys rather have, Blake Rutherford or Kyle Tucker? Very tough call on tucker vs Rutherford. I might lean tucker, but it's close
