  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) I agree. The whole purpose of the trade would be to improve the team to make the playoffs. I don't see losing McCutchen and his replacement in one deal making sense for them even with improvement of the pitching with Q. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016122...orts/161229711/ No source provided, but speculation that the White Sox asking price to the Pirates is Glasnow, Meadows plus either Bell or Newman I love it. Keep the pricetag really high and force a team's hand. Quintana's contract is especially valuable given the massive free agent deals being handed out left and right. The key for the White Sox is getting the Pirates to agree in priciple for Meadows and Glasnow to headline the deal...and then possibly allow them to negotiate you down to a player like Hayes as the final piece
  2. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:06 PM) White Sox Get: Tyler Glasnow((Pit), Dominic Smithl(NY), Austin Meadows(Pit) Mets Gets: Andrew McCuthen(Pit) and David Robertson(Chi) Pirates Get: Jose Quintana(Chi), Michael Comforto(NY) Justin Dunn (NY) Pirates get two high end guys with control and a young prospect Mets: They get there centerfielder and closer White Sox: We get two high end position players with a young stud prospect pitcher. Close? Other than the Mets giving up three cheap, young players for two guys only udner contract for two more seasons...this proposal actually makes some sense I think Pittsburgh actually gets too much in return by essentially sending McCutchen, Glasnow and Meadows and getting Quintana/Conforto/Dunn back
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:18 PM) But are you better with Conforto in LF than Cutch? Even his down year was better than Conforto last year. Conforto is much cheaper and under control for longer than Cutch
  4. Close? It's an interesting proposal, tons of moving parts White Sox would likely accept that deal. Not sure if it is in the Mets long term interest to part with Smith, Conforto and Dunn though
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Exactly, especially since I'm not quite sure why they are focused on McCutchen to start with Pirates fans seem the most willing to take the plunge and trade for Quintana All other teams are hugging their precious prospects
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) Pirates get: Quintana and Granderson (1 year left) Mets get: McCuthcen and Robertson Sox get: Bell, Glasnow, Conforto, Smith, and Dunn Thoughts? At first though, I think this is light from the Mets side. Why would the White Sox want to acquire Bell and Smith? Makes no sense since both are 1B/DH only players Feels light from the Mets
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) The Rockies front office is run by a Random Number Generator, so it doesn't do any good to speculate based on need. On the other hand, you can never count them out. I would absolutely be in on Quintana if I were the Rockies They really could use players like Quintana, Robertson and Jones to help solidify their rotation and bullpen
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) This isn't a good market to trade Abreu. Maybe next year will be - not sure which 1B/DH are up for FA, but several were this season. Melky looks like a deadline deal; if he has a good year, but get a bottom top 100 for him. If not, then a flier. But that's okay. I'd like to see someone pony up for Robertson and move him before the season to create more room for Jones and perhaps others who could be flipped. Abreu at the deadline or next offseason might be a better market for a slugger like him, agreed
  9. QUOTE (GermanSoxFan @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) I'd prefer Schwarber. Jimenez and Candelario. Schwarber's value is limited in the NL. And they can't even move him to first either. He would be a logical trade piece. I proposed a Happ, Jimenez and Candelario deal for Quintana as a possibility I doubt either side accepts that, but as a purely baseball trade it would be a good deal for each side
  10. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Everyone needs to chill on sentiments around trading for specific needs. You should be using your biggest guns to just get a talent infusion. Who cares if that talent is predominantly pitching. We can draft hitting in the coming drafts and focus our free agent money on that. Plus having a deep system means you can always be a player in trades. I personally don't want a lesser package if it means getting hitters. And I don't want a crappy catching prospect in lieu of an OF or arm with much much higher upside. I think this rationale I'm seeing a ton of here on this thread is how teams squander opportunities to get the best players. You see it all the time in the NFL draft, a team passes on a megastar whatever to draft a guard because "it's a need". Just take the best effing player I want a return of the best prospects available, regardless of position We have needs all over the place, and you truly never can have too much pitching. It's amazing to think about what the ceiling on a rotation of: 1) Rodon 2) Glasnow 3) Giolito 4) Kopech 5) Lopez could actually do. Plus we still have high upside arms in Adams, Stephens, Hansen, Fulmer, Burdi and Dunning. A home grown pitching staff like that has the potential to completely dominate even the best lineups, and contend each year
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Lol I'm going to laugh when Hahn gets Glasnow, Meadows and Bell for Quintana. Hahn gets Meadows, Glasnow and Bell for Quintana he would be worshipped at Soxtalk haha
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) Aces are very valuable, no doubt. No argument. But Meadows could be a great CFer which is not necessarily easy to find. I like Meadows alot, and I know we have stocked up on arms and need position player talent. All I am suggesting is that Glasnow might actually be the significantly better prospect in the long run. He has flat out dominated the minors, moreso than any of our current prospects have. If he sorts out his control issues (like Carlos Rodon has started to do), we could be looking at potentially the best rotation in baseball for the next 6 years. We might be able to get a package like: Glasnow + Bell ++ for Quintana...something I would strongly consider. I like Glasnow better as a prospect than any of our current arms
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) 11-12, 190 IP, 210 K, 3.45 ERA, 1.25 WHIP Rodon really improved his walk rate in 2016 (2.9 BB/9) vs. 2015 (4.6 BB/9). His 3.91 SIERA was 25th best of qualified MLB starting pitchers. I really think he takes the next step forward this year and breaks out
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:05 AM) The White Sox plan is 100% to use Collins as a catcher. They've said as much recently. Whether or not that will happen remains to be seen. But they'll be patient with him. But I do agree that acquiring another interesting young catcher doesn't hurt. Especially one that is ready, good defensively, and can help these young pitchers develop. All of us are high on Meadows, but I feel like we should pause and consider if the upside of Glasnow is arguably higher? Glasnow has a ceiling of a true #1 ace starting pitcher if he can improve his command. At every minor league level he has dominated, he just needs to cut down on walks. Meadows looks like he could be an excellent player, but a true #1 starter is even harder to find. If Glasnow is on the table and we pass, I could see the White Sox regretting that move in a few years.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) I wouldn't be. Meadows has to be the headliner for me. I'm open to a package without meadows, but the return needs to be big. Glasgow, bell, Newman and Keller
  16. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) I don't think this is a genuine effort to rebuild. I believe they just got rid of the guys that management didnt get along with. The same thing happened with the Bulls. A full rebuild does not happen in a few weeks. It takes two or more sides to agree on a trade. This is a full rebuild, be patient
  17. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) Yanks did show interest in Quintana (@jonmorosi on it) but don't want to part w/frazier or Torres so likely a non-starter https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/811720851435438080 The conversation would not lead anywhere if their best two prospects are not on the table Sox held out and got a haul for Easton and sale. I expect the same for q
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Those are all good but that dodgers package blows the rest out of the water. Agreed. The Dodgers package proposed is a monster haul
  19. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Pirates / Rockies Yankees Astros Rangers Luis Escobar is a nice looking lotto ticket if you're risk adverse to Taylor Hearn That deal seems terrible for the sox. Q should bring a sale like haul himself. Robertson a top 50-80 prospect and a lotto ticket possibly more if they eat some of his contract. Lastly Nate Jones while he won't get quite what the Phillies got for Giles will bring back a mint himself and is in a similar spot to Q where his contract is so desirable that teams pressed up against the threshold would love to acquire him than pay the tax and teams like Pittsburgh that are lower payroll would love to have him in the back end of their pen. I agree, no way I deal Robertson and Jones as throw ins for a Quintana deal
  20. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) I like IF and CF prospects the most. I'd want a top fielder and top pitching prospect from each. So here is how I would rank them. 1. Pirates - Meadows, Newman, Keller, Diaz 2. Rockies - Rodgers, Hoffman, Tapia, Murphy 3. Dodgers - Bellinger, Verdugo, Barnes, Alvarez/DeLeon 4. Yankees - Torres, Rutherford, Sheffield, Andujar 5. Astros - Martes, Tucker, Perez, Stubbs All of those packages have their own merits and would be great hauls for Quintana
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) Down is relative, those players are all incredible. Rodgers is the lowest because to me he is riskiest. Torres at same level makes me rank him higher because of reports on his superior pitch recognition and plate discipline as well as defensive remarks. I'd be so so so happy to get any of them. Any of those guys are potential franchise players, and worthy centerpieces to a Quintana deal Bregman is going to rake for the Astros. He can develop into a big time star. Torres has a very high ceiling, and this season will be an interesting test to see how he adjusts to facing AA pitching. Bellinger can hit, and hit for power. His value is lower if he can't stick in the outfield though Rodgers is far from the majors, but his ISO was impressive this season and he plays a premium position
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) We'll see what happens with this deal. I think they screwed themselves by forcing the issue with what they need back from a Q trade. No idea if that is a part of what is taking time to develop for these other deals or not. I do still think that they have spent too much time worrying about player rankings instead of organizational fit. Far too soon to say, plus we are not privy to the actual negotiations What we can judge the Sox on is results, and so far we have dramatically improved our farm system with two trades
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) Wow I'm shocked you view Meadows that poorly. For me it's Bregman/Meadows/Torres/Bellinger/Rodgers in that order. Tough call, I'd rank them: Bregman Meadows Torres Bellinger or Rodgers is tough, if you view Bellinger as a 1B, then Rodgers...but if he can stick in the OF it's much closer
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:11 PM) Not too scary. Were they drafted out of high school? We are only talking 3 seasons ago really. Hansen's value is way down since then. He has regressed and is a mid tier prospect, at best, right now
  25. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) If you're going with pitching stats I think SIERA is better. They are all still somewhat subjective but IMHO SIERA is the best at attempting to isolate a pitcher's performance. If you're focusing on SIERA, Carlos Rodon posted the 25th best SIERA in the majors leagues in 2016...very interesting
