  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) The Pirates really should be interested. But if they hold off their top guy, I am not sure they have enough to get it done. I see Meadows being the sticking point for the Pirates, and what will hold up a deal being done. They view him as the center fielder of the future post McCutchen. Glasnow or Meadows would have to headline, but you would have to imagine the Sox would likely prefer the top end position player in a Quintana deal The price tag would be Meadows + Glasnow or Keller + more
  2. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) .814 OPS from a shortstop is pretty, pretty good. By comparison, Anderson only exceeded .800 once and that was in 2014. In addition, Newman has an incredibly advanced approach that would be ideal at the top of the lineup. In 2016, he actually walked more than he struck out. That's insane in milb. He's got some speed and there is some belief that he has the tools to stick at SS which would make him an above average defender at 2B. Newman's approach at the plate is excellent, all he does is hit and consistently get on base. The power is very lacking, but he takes a ton of walks and has decent speed. He projects to be a starting caliber SS or 2B and a solid table setter for the offense
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:01 AM) I think it's a question of does an asset like this fit our longterm plan. As a few of us have discussed, you can look at their situation in a number of ways: 1) They need to acquire talented veterans like Q on cost-controlled contracts by trading from their prospect base; 2) They need to keep their prospect base because they can't compete in any way other than by stacking cost-controlled talent. They likely are trying to pull off some mix of the two. If Quintan is dealt they would ideally like to turn him into multiple high end position player talents so that we can fill out our major league roster. I am not against getting more quality pitching, but we have glaring position player needs. Houston, New York and Pittsburgh seems to all be in on Quintana, as well as the Rockies possibly. This bidding war bodes well for the Sox Pittsburgh: Meadows + Newman + Keller + one more prospect could be a deal that works for both sides
  4. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) This deal makes a ton of sense for the Pirates, even at a steep cost. If their playoff chances start going south within 2 years or so, and provided Quintana is still pitches as he does now, they can still flip him again for an awesome return to some other team to help offset the prospects they lost to acquire him in the first place. I would think Meadows would be a must. I like Mitch Keller alot, he took major strides forward this season and projects as a mid rotation starter. I'd obviously start the price with Glasnow + Meadows ++
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) The only explanation I can think of is that Kevin Newman is a familiar that spawned from Robin's shame and despair. It seems clear that his destiny is to join the Sox and single-handedly serve the Rangers a devastating playoff defeat as an increasingly infirm Ryan watches from a luxury suite. Meadows, Glasnow, Bell, Newman, Keller, Hayes, Craig, Diaz...there is definitely a potential deal to be made here out of those players
  6. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 12:48 AM) .290/.320/.450 15 HR 30 SB That's a 4 WAR SS (with good D), right? That is borderline all star shortstop
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Things like this are where people take stats a little too literally. Sure he put up a .685 OPS. He did it at age 21 in High A ball, where he was nearly two years under the league average age. He struck out at a pretty low rate. He has insane speed. He has average power to go along with plus tools across the rest of the board. Regressing statistically is not what I would like to see from a supposed top 25 prospect
  8. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) Have at it, I'm driving. Reserving my right to post mine later when not potentially killing someone with a two ton hunk of steel. .276 avg .317 obp 13 home runs 28 steals
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) I'm not a fan of Mateo. .300 OBP. I think Martes is a #2 starter. I'd rather have Martes. I like the Yanks potential headliners better though. I would need two of Torres, Frazier and Rutherford plus one or two more prospects to make a deal happen.
  10. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) That's a pretty great deal, buying low on Severino is vintage White Sox. Frazier and Mateo make a ton of sense for a team obviously trying to build up the middle. Compare it to the rumored Astros proposal Frazier = Tucker Mateo > Martes Severino > Musgrove Severino has immense talent, and his high ERA last year corresponded with an identical FIP as his hysteria inducing 2015 campaign. Perhaps in a vacuum Severino and Musgrove are equal (maybe even a slight edge to Musgrove), but to the White Sox there is a distinct appeal Severino has. And for those saying the Sox need more position players, well here is one of the best OF prospects in the game who will break camp in AAA and another MIF prospect (can never have too many) who has literally 80 speed. I'm down on Mateo after he posted a .685 ops in high a ball this season. That does not warrant top prospect status, plus his defense was suspect.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 06:42 PM) Sports Mockery and "reporting" don't really go together. Haha agreed. I would be pissed off if Quintana was dealt for such a poor return. I'd rather keep him than accept that package
  12. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) I agree the sox need to bring in some additional catching depth if Collins can't stick behind the dish. Ideally they're targeting high minor assets like Garret Stubbs with Houston, Carson Kelly with the Cardinals, Pedro Severino with the Nats, Austin Barnes with the Dodgers, Victor Caratini with in the cubs system or Tom Murphy with the rockies, failing that there are other interesting catchers further down the pipeline in the dodgers system like Keibert Ruiz and Donny Sands in the yankee's system. I think the deal starts with Torres and then one of Frazier or Rutherford, an additional arm like Fowler/Adams/Montgomery and a lotto ticket like Sands or Perez. I gotta say I love the Mahalanobis Comps of Carlos Gonzalez for Frazier & Edgardo Alfonzo for Torres. a future of infield of Torres/Anderson/Moncada just scream athleticism and defense. Sports mockery is reporting the white sox asked for severing, Mateo and Frazier for Quintana. I highly doubt that was their request
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) True, you could even say the all power no hit tool no batting eye is the rare player we have graduated to the show. The organization has made it clear they are focusing on actual baseball players, rather than 5 tool "athletes" The have emphasized on base percentage in recent draft picks of Collins, Fisher and Call. They did a great job at drafting arms with upside as well in Hansen, Elliott, Lambert, Flores, and Hamilton Aaron Schnurbusch absolutely raked in Rookie Ball and might turn into a decent prospect.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) If I had to do a top 30 today: 1. Moncada 2. Giolito 3. Kopech 4. Lopez 5. Collins 6. Fulmer 7. Burdi 8. Hansen 9. Basabe 10. Dunning 11. Adams 12. Call 13. Fisher 14. Stephens 15. Nunez 16. Michalczewski 17. Adolfo 19. Martinez 20. Engel 21. Curbelo 22. Flores 23. Tilson 24. Guerrero 25. Clark 26. Alfaro 27. Peter 28. Danish 29. Solorzano 30. Schnurbusch What's interesting is I couldn't find room for about a dozen prospects that would have made top 30 lists in recent years. And there are still so few Latin American signings cracking these lists...hopefully that should change in the near future. Matt Cooper is 25 years old, but I feel like he deserves some top 30 consideration after having a very nice season in 2016. His ceiling is likely that of a solid reliever, but that can still be a valuable player. He has the potential to make the Sox roster at some point in 2017 out of the pen
  15. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Moncada put up better numbers than Benintendi did last season in the minors and is a year younger. His splits against LHP in the majors was atrocious too, he has plenty of questions. Devers is younger than both players, but didn't put up numbers anywhere close to Moncada or Benintendi. It's ok to be excited about our prospects. Moncada is very good at baseball and Im willing to bet Giolito looks pretty damn good under the White Sox tutelage next season. I think fans will be impressed with how advanced Collin's hitting approach is. He does not sell out for power and is very willing to take walks to get on base. He projects to be an OPS monster, and a potential superstar if he can stick at catcher. By mid season I fully expect Collins to be a top #50 mlb prospect Moncada does have issues against left handed pitching, but he murders righties. In time I think he will start to close that gap.
  16. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) I"ll say something like 100 IP with a 5+ ERA before he is DFA'd effectively ending his career. Seems like a nice guy and he was once very good, but unless some miracle happens I can't see him bouncing back. He was throwing BP fastballs up there last year. All we can hope for is that he bounces back and gives us decent innings Anything under a 5.00 FIP would be a big improvement
  17. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) Absolutely agree. At least Judge is trending upwards in his development. One thing I find funny is how Judge is viewed somewhat as being old (25 in April) by some folks. Lol, I hardly consider that to be old and like you said, some players take time to develop. As I said before, the Yanks have prospects I would rather have over Judge but if a deal was made and Judge was apart of the return, I would be giddy at his power potential at the Cell. ( Sorry but I refuse to acknowledge the new name, it's still too soon. ) 25 is relatively old for a prospect. As a third piece to a Quintana deal he is worth a gamble, but not as the first or second piece
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) There's a weird piling on of judge right now. I don't necessarily want him in a Q deal, but sometimes players do need time to develop. He dramatically improved between years 1 and 2 in AAA as you'd like to see. He strikes out, but he was still k'ing at under 30% in AAA and walking at a nice 12% clip. In his abysmal, small sample size, he still walked 10% of the time. I'm not saying Judge cannot right the ship, he absolutely can. But I am also not going to ignore striking out like he did I dug into Judge's game log, and if you take away the first five games after he got called up and performed well he was beyond terrible the rest of the season. From August 19th to September 13th Judge batted .106 in 75 plate appearances and struck out 48% of the time I'm not going to say this means he qill automatically bust, but he struggled big time at the mlb level
  19. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) How many of these guys have to bust before Sox fans will learn that that type of player just does not develop in the White Sox farm system? It's no coincidence that the Sox organization has shifted towards drafting and developing players who know how to get on base Collins and Fisher led the NCAA in OBP this past season
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Judge has huge power potential and that's pretty tantalizing to fans of a team that plays in a small park and yet does not hit enough home runs. I completely understand why Sox fans would want Judge, despite the fact I'd prefer other Yankee prospects over Judge. Small sample size, but him striking out at a 44% clip in 27 mlb games is abysmal. This would concern me less if he were 21/22/23 years old, but he will turn 25 in February. His defense is passable at best, so you are really betting on power potential only. He will really need to improve his contact if he is going to stick at the mlb level.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Why does anyone want Judge? Put him in the Sox development system, and he's a guaranteed bust. His K rate is WAY too high, and the Sox don't know how to fix that. Give me Andujar over Judge every time. Nobody wants Judge, because everyone sees how he is on the clear path to being a bust Mateo's stock is down as well after posting a subpar .685 OPS this season in high A ball. That is concerning enough for me to remove him from the top 100 prospects list. I would not accept him as anything more than a third piece in a Quintana deal I really don't see a deal getting done because it would require the Yankees to part with a ton of their minor league talent.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) Benintendi's more similar to Ellsbury/Gardner than a perennial MVP candidate. Why would Devers be higher than Moncada? Just for power numbers? Not sure how many scouts are out there saying Devers is a superior prospect to Moncada Purely on mlb.com scouting grades = Devers: Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55 Moncada: Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 55 | Run: 65 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 65 Devers might develop more power than Moncada, but Moncada has significantly more speed. That speed may come in handy if Moncada is asked to play the OF ever Both are really good prospects, but I am curious to see how Devers adjusts to facing AA pitching
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Just for sh**ts and gigs, I wonder what a package with Headley coming back could look like. To Yankees: Quintana Frazier To White Sox: Headley Torres Frazier Rutherford Judge Lol, doubt it. I have a hard time imagining the 2 years and $26M they owe Headley moves the meter enough to give up 4 of their top 5 prospects. A man can dream though. Pretty sure any White Sox fan would take that deal and run, but very unlikely from the Yankees point of view
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) Intriguing idea for sure. Certainly interesting if the White Sox would take back Headley in the deal to save the Yankees some money moving forward
  25. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) I wasn't saying anything about that deal. My comment was is that he is not as good as sale thus you shouldn't expect the same haul the Sox got for Sale. Even still, he has an additional season of cheap control, which puts his value right on par with Sale. If the length of contract and money were equal, yes Sale is a better pitcher. But Quintana on a 4 year, $38 million contract is a steal for any team
