The lack of walks and strikeout rate are partially what holds me back from saying Robert is a sure fire star in the making. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/wander-franco/sa3007033/stats?position=SS A guy like Wander Franco, posting that BB% and K% rate at his age against high A totally indicates a flat out elite future bat. I'm not comparing the two directly, but I'd like to see Robert draw a few more walks and cut down a little on the K's. Overall he should be dynamic in our lineup!
-
I understand a bit of fangraphs restraint with Robert. He does not walk much, and there are some swing and miss concerns. Lewis Brinson busting I'm sure gives them pause. That said Robert is extremely talented and just as easily could break out at the MLB level in 2020. Superstar upside for sure.

I'd try to lock up Moncada before he goes out and puts up a 6 WAR season and essentially ensures he does not sign an extension.
-
Outside of bullpen, possibly a 2B/OF, looking into Giolito and Moncada extensions are the smartest things the Sox can do right now. Lock up this core as long as possible.
-
Betts is likely looking at 10/$370 million in free agency, the Sox will not be touching numbers like that
-
It does because this is a major league deal There will have to be movement on the 40 man to add Robert and Encarnacion I'd predict Zavala/Medeiros/Foster get waived
-
Why would Betts even consider signing an extension when he can hit free agency in a year? Sox are also not dealing all that young talent for a one year rental being paid $28 million in 2020. They will need young inexpensive players like Vaughn and Dunning to keep contention going.
-
I think the Sox could find a way to get Moncada done, although the numbers would likely be eye popping.
-
It is worth it to gain those option years during Robert's prime for sure
-
Giolito is four seasons away from free agency, I think an extension could make sense for both sides. Giolito could get paid much sooner, and could give the Sox two option years on the backend of a potential extension. Moncada is also four years away from free agency, but a deal might be tougher there.

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
steveno89 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
"Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently made a player move prediction for every team. Betts was unsurprisingly who he focused on for the Red Sox, making a case for extending their superstar to a 10-year, $370 million deal." I cannot see the White Sox handing out a 10/$370 contract ever. Betts is not coming here. -
Arenado does not make much sense for the Sox and talk of dealing Robert is total BS. Robert is not going anywhere.

Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker
steveno89 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll come right out and say it now. The White Sox absolutely are not signing Betts, and highly unlikely to pay Springer too. If we are going to spend big money next offseason it would be on pitching. -

Mazara reminds me quite a bit of Avisail Garcia in terms of the pedigree and talent is there, he just does not seem to put it all together -
Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming

Not sure I see the Sox going multi year with a 35 year old reliever -
Ozuna really does not make much sense for the Sox at this point. He does not really play RF and his defense has declined since the trade from Miami. He's a solid, but unspectacular LF, who I'd be leery about handing a four year deal to.

Can the 20s be the best decade in Sox history?

Give me one World Series win over ten straight playoff appearances all day -
How good do YOU think we can be next season?
steveno89 replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My worry is the Twins nab Donaldson, putting them at a pretty big advantage over the Sox in 2020. You are totally right that the Twins get the absolute most out of players. Their bullpen is also several steps ahead of ours. -
Hill had surgery on his elbow and won't be able to pitch until June or July...and also is 39 years old Homer Bailey had one solid season in 2019, unlikely to repeat that, yikes

2020 Projection for Moncada from Brooks Baseball/Roto
steveno89 replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/yoan-moncada-660162?stats=career-r-hitting-mlb Take a look at this. Moncada is elite across the board offensively. His xwOBA of .362 is not far from his actual .367 OBP. His exit velocity was in the top 3% of the mlb, when he hits the ball he crushes it. Is he due for a bit of regression? Perhaps, but the underlying analytics back up what he has done. Plus, I expect Moncada to improve as he heads into his prime years. -
Great year guys, looking forward to 2020 even more!

How good do YOU think we can be next season?
steveno89 replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is essentially beat case scenario across the board, especially offensively. If the team is that strong I think they would be big time buyers at the deadline to push for the playoffs. -

steveno89 replied to SonofaRoache's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Loving the optimism I'm seeing Realistically we are about a .500 team as currently constructed, albeit with upside if things click. Talk of upper 80's or 90+ wins seems like a stretch. Pretty hard to argue that the offense should be solid, especially with the additions of Grandal, Encarnacion, Mazara, Robert, Madrigal. Young players are likely to struggle as the adjust to the majors. The pitching staff should be improved with Keuchel and Gonzalez, but uncertain if Giolito will build off his breakout 2019, can Lopez and Cease take necessary steps forward? The bullpen is more of a question mark than any real contender would like. Bummer is a solid piece, but beyond that there are doubts. Need more strikeout stuff in our bullpen for sure. -
