  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) I think Musgrove is maybe a #3 starter. Give me Tucker and Martes for sure. Then build the rest around Laureano, Stubbs, Reed, Perez, etc I'm most impressed with Musgrove's plus control. He gives up hits, but very rarely walks anyone. That bodes well for him to reach his ceiling of a #3 starter...a valuable player. Martes and Tucker alone won't be enouugh. Reed is blocked and is a good get as a third piece to a deal. Not sure if Houston would be comfortable offering much more than that though
  2. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 08:56 AM) If the Astros refuse to include Bregman in any deal (which is certainly a more-than-fair stance for them to take), I think a Quintana trade would have to include Martes and Tucker for sure, plus some serious depth. I would do Martes, Tucker, one of the other OFs (Fisher, Laureano or Hernandez), Stubbs and Reed. With Bregman understandably off the table, any Q deal would absolutely start with Martes and Tucker...but I agree it would also take more Reed's value is certainly down, but he could be worth a gamble on? I really like Musgrove, but Houston seems unwilling to deal him and Martes Martes/Tucker/Reed/Stubbs would be a package I would consider if Musgrove was taken out
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) Wtf are you even talking about? He played the most games of his career last season and had an OBP that was .001 away from last years OBP. Just because we traded him, lets not sell Eaton short...he has been a very good player for us. His best comparison would be a younger alex gordon in terms of good defense, solid hitting and on base skills with average pop, decent speed That amounts to a quality player. I wish him the best
  4. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Include Jones then Jones has significant value of his own, why throw him in?
  5. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) I put Tucker ahead of Robles by a decent margin. Really on the level of about Giolito/Kopech in terms of his quality, perhaps a smidge above those two. I'm not saying he'll have this kind of career, because nobody ever really has, but he looks like Ted Williams in the batter's box. I'm not the first person to say that either. Tucker is a fine centerpiece to the deal and gives the Sox a monster corner OF prospect to lean on. Tucker looks pretty solid, but Robles 70 grade speed, 65 grade arm and 60 grade fielding (ability to play center field is a big bonus) make him the superior prospect right now I would rather have Robles
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) More downside Last year was the worst full season of his career; it came after a dreadful 2nd half of 2015. He's okay defensively - but I Don't see how his defense improves. On other notes - Yes, Jones should have good value; to max it, let him close; of course, Sox may get more marginal value building up Robertson until July; last year's mediocre year stares trading partners in the face. But Jones should absolutely be on the block. Here's another one - Burdi. He was drafted for quick ascendancy to the major league bullpen; well that isn't the priority any more. Put him out there, and trade him if he pitches like they think. Hahn has done a good job tearing down and trading for minor leaguers. But he and Williams have got to do a better job in their own house: drafting, development and international signings. Further, they have to improve their major league scouting (someone scouted and recommended Shields). But most of all, Hahn and Williams have to do a much better job building around this new core than they did building around the Sale/Q core. Burdi is only 21 years old and does not need to be rushed to the major league level right away. I think he could be our future closer or setup man if Jones and/or Robertson get dealt. I would not look to trade him right now as he fits right into the rebuild
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) My view is, it doesn't have the high end prospect we'd like. It might also be that I see more bust potential in the key piece to this deal (tucker) vs. what we got in the other deals. I also am probably slightly biased in the sense that I'd like a deal centered around positional talent when it comes to Q. Tucker is still at least two full seasons away from the majors, correct He still projects pretty well as a corner outfielder with 20 home run potential and solid hitting skills
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) This actually seems a little light, in my opinion. From a Sox fans perspective? Maybe But getting what amount to 3 top #50 overall prospects for Quintana would be a nice haul
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) Where are people hearing that Musgrove is a sticking point? where are these hypothetical Astros deals even coming from? Not questioning, just curious (since I was offline most of the weekend). Asking for Musgrove/Martes/Tucker is very fair from the White Sox point of view That is not an unreasonable price for 4 seasons of a cost controlled #2 starting pitcher After the top few guys I do not like the Astros system that much for a Quintana deal Musgrove is a really solid prospect in his own right, ranking #32 overall at 2016 mid season by baseball america. I really like his plus control. Houston likely views him as a future rotation piece
  10. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) I actually think that Frazier is an extension candidate if he wants to stay through the rebuild. Reasoning: Right now people want to underpay because he had a bad year. My belief is at some point in a new contract you will have an opportunity to trade him. His defense will likely improve making him probably in the range of a 3 WAR player. We have currently no replacement in the system. This will give them time to develop somebody. Turner got 4/64. I would assume Frazier gets under that, 4/55-60. Pretty reasonable deal. Downside: He is in his prime and will be leaving by the contact ends. Paying for 2 years where we will not be competitive. Not sure why he would want to resign with the rebuilding White Sox when he could bet on himself and cash in next offseason in free agency?
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) I don't the Sox get much in the way of prospects for Robertson or Frazier; maybe use one to get a pre-arb catcher who can actually catch. The haul won't be anything near the Sale or Eaton deals, but they each have some value on their own 40 home run, 3.5 WAR third baseman/first baseman/DH on a reasonable one year deal could be valuable to a contender We might be able to get more value out of Roberston at the deadline I could see teams asking us about Nate Jones either now or at the deadline
  12. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Long term the Cubs are not really set on the corner OF. I doubt they see Jiminez as being blocked and I'm certain they want another guy who can play the MIF in case the Russell/Baez strikeout issues spiral out of control again. You know it absolutely kills Theo that he had to deal Torres to get Chapman, I doubt he does something similar without having a glaring roster compulsion forcing his hand. They are set in terms of Schwarber, Heyward and Zobrist under control for multiple more years They are stuck with Heyward, they need Schwarber's bat in the lineup and he is not going to catch Russell isn't going anywhere, nor is Baez The time might be now to use guys like Happ and Candelario as trade chips. They likely want to keep Jimenez due to his big upside, but Happ and Candelario are expendable. I don't think Happ and Candelario are enough to get a Q deal done though
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:20 PM) I kinda want Q to go to the NL because I'm certain he'd be a Cy Young winner when his innings are limited and he gets even fewer legit batters per lineup. Would Q winning a Cy Young on the Cubs kill me? It's possible. It makes a ton of sense for both the Cubs and Sox to strike a Quintana deal Will it happen? Extremely doubtful, but on paper it makes lots of sense
  14. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) In a earlier post i said Happ and Jiminez alone and i would do it in a heartbeat. Alittle light but when you put all the pitchers we received in the other two trades ill take 2 highly regarded position players. Maybe get Cantini the catcher. Happ, Jimenez and Candelario are blocked for the foreseeable future, so their best use might be as trade bait for starting pitching. The infield and outfield are both jammed, and I can't see many opportunities for any of those players to crack the mlb roster barring injuries Turning them into Quintana would do wonders for their chances of repeating, as well as lessen the pressure to resign Arrieta (or any free agent pitcher for that matter) to a lengthy megadeal
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 03:05 PM) Rockies honestly almost make the most sense out of any team due to them having to overpay to get pitchers there. Puts them in an awful position to try to compete. Also have young position player depth that van be moved. The Rockies could make alot of sense if they really want to go for it, but I would prefer to deal Quintana and Robertson separately if possible We should start the asking price high, but I could see a package of Rodgers, Tapia and Freeland for Quintana making sense for each team Rodgers and Tapia fit the bill for position players that we need in our farm system Freeland is likely a back of the rotation starter at best, but we could use a solid left handed pitching prospect outside of Guerrero and Clark
  16. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) Not sure about this but possibly the Yankees if they deal Headley somehow before Frazier is traded or the Mets as insurance for David Wright.Bith teams have other options obviously, The Mets or Yanks would welcome the NJ native and Todd would like to play out East, I think. He's a great guy and I'd be sorry to lose his presence on the team, but nt that Hahn os blowing it up, it would be best for him as well as the team to trade him. Same with Robertson and Melky. I would love to package Shields in any trade. Just get rid of him somehow some way. Unfortunately we are stuck with Shields, unless he miraculously pitches well enough to trade in 2017
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) Meh, unpopular opinon I'm sure but I'd rather have Davis than Chapman, though I know people think Davis is injured. Davis seems much more of the Andrew Miller firehose reliever than Chapman, who needs to be your closer. I get why the Sox would not want to trade Sale to the Cubs, but I could see the Cubs being interested in Quintana and his cheap four years of control. He would slot perfectly into the rotation and provide additional insurance against Arrieta leaving in free agency. With the way their roster is currently constructed, players like Ian Happ, Eloy Jimenez and Jaimer Candelario have nowhere to play Now I doubt the Cubs would be willing to offer this, but a deal of Happ, Jimenez and Candelario for Quintana could make sense for each side
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) Given how much money they spent on the other see, I could see where they look at Q and his price and value it more. That said, Friedman isn't one with a reputation of being willing to make an aggressive pay (and that is what it will take to get Q, imo). Quintana does not have to get dealt this offseason if their price is not met They can shop him at the deadline or next offseason and still get a huge return
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) This held up well. Why would we want to take on bad contracts right now? The Dodgers have been very unwilling to deal prospects and I don't expect them to change course on that I'd rather us clean house, trim the payroll and have a ton of flexibility going forward
  20. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) If Jansen doesn't accept the Marlins offer, Robertson for Jarlin Garcia...who says no Sox or Marlins? I think Robertson could fetch a better prospect than Jarlin Garcia, especially given the lack of closers on the market or perhaps at the deadline? Garcia's upside seems limited to a back of the rotation at best
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Ya Frazier's market is very thin man. I expect them to keep him and launch him at the deadline. It wouldn't be the end of the world to keep Frazier until the deadline when teams could use a bat Players like Melky, Frazier, Robertson, Abreu and Jones could be valuable to a contending team in need of bullpen help or a bat
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) I dont know what this guy's market is anymore. There may be teams interested but they wont be fighting with each other over him and without the Dodgers the Sox dont have a desperate buyer to leverage. May have to wait until injuries hit during the season and sell him then. Wow the Dodgers giving 5/80 to Jansen and looking like 4/64 to Turner So much for them "shedding" payroll. Big spenders spend
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Yea the sox are quickly going away from that (thank god). Even a guy like Tilson regardless of what he's projected to be, has a solid contact rate throughout his minor league career. Basabe is a player we should be gambling on, because if he can improve his hit tool all of the other tools are above average But a player with an average hit tool and below average power are dime a dozen. Frazier might not get us a ton in a trade, but should return 2 decent prospects and maybe a low level flyer
  24. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Musgrove might be holding it up right now but he's easy to work around with Reed, Fisher, Hernandez, Stubbs, Paulino and Perez as alternatives (possibly 2-3 of them). I think Jansen and Turner are the first dominos to fall before Q is moved, as Jones/Robertson/Frazier could be add ins to the deal to get more back. Reed would be worth a gamble in a three of four player package. He entered 2016 as a highly touted prospect but a horrible 48 game stretch at the mlb level has tarnished that quite a bit. Hitting .164 overall and .064 in 17 at bats against lefties is frightening for sure for a guy pegged as a plus hitter. If Musgrove is not in the deal I could see Martes/Tucker/Reed plus one lower level prospect making sense, although Houston might not want to give up on him so quickly
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) I really like cards prospects. If we could pry Magneuris Sierra (username change to bmagneuris would be on table) and Sosa from them I'd be very happy. Also wouldn't mind if we got some wild card like Breyvic Valera. Sierra and Sosa are decent prospects, but neither offers any power to speak of Sosa does not walk much, and is not regarded as a plus hitter which gives me concerns about the bat playing at the mlb level Sierra has good speed and a tick above average hit tool, but I'd really like to see our system add some power
