  1. QUOTE (heirdog @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Curious to know if Tim anderson was prospect eligible right now, where would he rank in top 100? His defense was arguably the most impressive thing in his 99 games at the mlb level posting a 1.2 DWAR Putting up 2.8 WAR overall in 99 games wwe would be looking at roughly a 4.2 WAR over a full season if he kept it up...a fringe all star Hypothetically I would say top 30 for sure, maybe even top 20 given the quality mlb performance. If he can develop a bit more patience at the plate he could be special
  2. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) pretty sure those are the first two stats i'm looking at if i need a closer bruh. Really?! FIP is a far better stat than ERA to begin with as it takes fielding out of the picture WHIP is also really important I would look at those before saves and ERA which can be skewed and don't tell me much about performance
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) I miss any new news or rumors on Davey boy? Saves and ERA are bad way to look at a reliever, I agree Peripheral stats like WHIP , hits, k's, walks, FIP all need to be considered Nate Jones is certainly a guy that could have trade value as either a closer or set up man He had a really good season and could be a sell high candidate
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) I think the addition of Devers would have made it a grand slam. Moncada/Devers/Kopech would have been an overpay from Boston's perspective That is 3 top thirty prospects for one player, the risk would be arguably too huge. The White Sox tried hard, but Boston knew they had the best offer on the table as nobody else was offering a true blue chip prospect along the lines of Moncada
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) Good to see them selling pieces off individually in order to maximize the amount of talent brought back. However, I don't think Robertson has a ton of value. Robertson could be a great candidate to keep and deal at the deadline when contenders are always looking for bullpen help If he does well this year you could get a more solid return then than you could now. Likely not as much as Chapman or Miller brought back to the Yankees, but a better return than you would get right now
  6. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) sounds like they aren't getting Robertson then. i think once Jansen gets a deal, we'll get a better picture of where Robertson ends up. Robertson is not getting you Robles, you'd be lucky to land Feede straight up You would be fortunate right now to get a back end top 100 prospect at best in a trade, especially if a team takes on all of his remaining contract

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) I guess what I'm wondering is this though - how much do we value this marginal upgrade: Pena .235 .273 .376 .650 Severino .271 .316 .337 .653 I realize Severino has shown well in some ML games and Penas was between AA and AAA and the AA numbers were better. But, why use Robertson on that if Pena is supposedly SEverino's defensive equal? Pena was a good pickup for his defense if anything. The bat is worthless, but we really really need some catching depth. I still think we need a veteran though
  8. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) #WhiteSox' David Robertson can block trades to: #Tigers, #Dodgers, #Mets, #Athletics, #Phillies. https://twitter.com/DevanFink/status/806914593507385344 We could likely get more for Robertson at the deadline, but I'd absolutely be willing to move him I wouldn't be shocked to see Jones come up in trade talks for teams needing setup or closer help
  9. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) I will be, but I doubt most will. Most will see seven names acquired and expect that those seven names will all be contributing to the ML club in a significant way very soon. When that doesn't happen, they'll want heads to roll, when anyone who knows anything about this knows that we'll be lucky to get five of these guys to be key pieces moving forward, and three are about the closest thing you can get to a lock in prospects. Anyone who realizes that this is a game of attrition, and that by acquiring 15-20 of the best 150 prospects in baseball, they are hoping that about half of them work out, as well as the talent they already had in the minors as well as hoping for a solid-good haul in the next three drafts, two of which will likely have top 5 picks for the White Sox, should be fine. If all of that works out, they could have 60-80% of a playoff caliber roster that is very cheap and cost controlled heading into the 2018 offseason, which would give them the ability to splurge in that historic class and potentially bring playoff baseball to the South Side by 2019, just in time for the new TV deal. Fans just need to realize that 2019 might not even be realistic depending on how things continue to develop moving forward. I am prepared to suck for the next 2/3 seasons at a minimum, but at least it will be purposeful sucking Fans will be patient, they have gone through mediocre year after year with a boring team. A young and talented team in the future is much better

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) Agreed. I hope we stay patient with all these guys. Almost wish we didn't rush Anderson and/or Fulmer. It would be nice for Anderson to develope the chemistry with these new guys, in particular Moncada since they are going to be staples in the middle infield for years to come. We did not have a shortstop, and Anderson is mlb ready I was really impressed with how he played defensively and really removed any doubts about his ability to stick at shortstop. If he can develop a bit more patience at the plate he will be an excellent player for us
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) I like Musgrove, they should put him in, too if no Bregman. I also like Musgrove, but he has been injury prone I don't think you are getting Martes/Tucker/Reed/Musgrove If Houston offered that, Quintana would be in a 'stros jersey already

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) I agree Servino doesn't do much for me, catcher is such a hard postion to find that "guy" behind the plate. Between delveleping a bat along with good defensive, framing, and calling a game for an entire staff you wonder why every team in the leagues try's to hold onto these guys. Catching is at a huge premium because very few with a decent bat can stick at the position defensively. That is why we absolutely must be patient and try to develop Collins as a catcher
  13. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:33 AM) I guess they're not that interested in winning it all. Oh well, their loss. Houston's starting pitching is shaky and not enough to contend in my opinion A package of Martes/Reed/Tucker/Stubbs would get it done for me in exchange for Q I don't feel that is unreasonable to request considering they are not putting Bregman in the deal
  14. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) Sean Sears on twitter: "Source: Asking price for Chris Archer and Jose Quintana is too high for #Astros, "seems unlikely" that either will end up in Houston" http://tomahawktake.com/2016/12/06/2-moves...ake-after-sale/ This is one of the dumbest proposals that I have seen^^^ wow it's bad
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) The thing is, if Eaton is anywhere near a 5 or 6 WAR player the next 5 seasons, he probably was worth more in trade than Sale for the extra 2 years at the same total cash. Eaton, Q, those guys are undervalued by many, including people whose job it is to know these things. I was watching MLBN and someone was making a case why Eaton is not worth anything near Cutch in trade. That's just being lazy. Rizzo said his analytics people and old school scouting people were the same on Eaton. It's a huge asset to give up. I hope it works out. Hahn is going to see all his bargain basement team friendly deals go to other teams this off season. I doubt he has much luck having 3 or 4 of those types of contracts on one roster again. BTW, why do the call them the Winter Meetings when it isn't technically Winter? Our "bargain basement" team friendly deals go away, yes. But our payroll is going to be next to nothing after we deal Robertson, Frazier, Melky, Quintana, etc. We will be entering an amazing free agent class with loads of money to spend on talent. Most of our players will be cost controlled giving us great flexibility for when we are ready to compete again
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:15 AM) I don't think anyone really cares about the 2017 offense because this team won't contend until 2019 at the earliest. 2017 should be viewed as a tanking year for Seth Beer. When is Beer eligible to be drafted? Sign me up for tanking

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) Yah, was a bit surprised to not see him added to the Nats deal with Robertson going back. I think it signals that they either were still shooting for Chapman and Jansen and/or want to keep Severino. Like you said, they don't have much else. Teams do not like to part with catching depth, especially a contending team like the Nats. Since Ramos is gone they will need depth and likely want to keep Severino around Plus, I think Robertson could potentially be worth more
  18. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:06 AM) Has Quintana been linked to the Yankees at all? If they were willing to give up Frazier, Rutherford, and Andujar I think they'd be fairly close. Plus, it would be amazing to sell Q back to the Yankees after we got him off of their scrap heap. I don't think the Yankees are prepared to sell off the farm while they are rebuilding. That is a team that really could use arms though. Their starting pitching is somewhat of a mess outside of Tanaka.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) One guy I got my eye on is Garrett Stubbs with the Astros. I'd like him as a 3rd or 4th piece in a Q deal, or maybe the 2nd or 3rd piece in a deal for one of the relievers( believe I remember they needed relievers). Hit over .300 with an OBP in the .390s. He was defensive player of the year at USC as a senior a few years ago, so you would assume his defense is good. No clue on his pitch framing. Baseball reference does have him also listed as a DH which might tell you something about his framing..or that his defensive player of the year award was a sham. This year they may as well give Narvaez and Smith a shot. I think they need to bring in a Veteran like Ianetta to platoon with Narvaez and Smith. That could be serviceable for the next season. Ianetta is nothing flashy, but at least has average catching defense metrics it seems
  20. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) I want both Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman and I would be willing to give up more in the deal to ensure that. Q + Frazier for those two plus a couple low prospects. Very doubtful that Houston makes Bregman available. If I were Houston I would not trade him, although I would recognize the need they have for reliable starting pitching. They could build a package like: Martes, Tucker, Reed plus one more for Quintana that would offset them not including Bregman. Teams generally do not want to subtract from their major league production to add a high end player, they view it as addition by subtraction.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) And how many homers/XB in how many at-bats against RHP? If the biggest problem the Cubs have is what to do with Schwarber against lefties, they'll be just fine. Plus, Jon Jay...despite being LHed, had pretty decent numbers against LHP. And they've also got Bryant, Contreras and Baez to balance out Heyward/Schwarber/Rizzo. My point is that reed wss really bad in 48 games batting .164 overall and .064 vs lefties. With below average defense the bat must play or he will be worthless
  22. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) So send him back to AA for a month to let him sort some things out and let him spend the rest of the year in AAA. We're in no hurry. He has MASHED at every level of the minors and everyone is ready to punt on him after a bad month in his first trip to the Bigs. Reed is the EXACT type of buy low candidate that can really round out that deal. Reed batted .064 against lefties in 48 games. That is unbelievably bad and worth considering. Time to declare him a failed prospect? Of course not, but his value is down
  23. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:29 PM) I actually wouldn't mind seeing the Sox pick up part of that salary if it increased the return in the trade. Eating half of the money owed would be less than $20MM in the next 4 years. Quintana is cheap, we won't be picking up a dime of his deal. Reed scares me as he was awful in 48 games, hardly a small sample size. He was especially bad against lefties. The Astros might want to trade him now because another performance like that will sink his value again
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:57 PM) Pretty much, yes. He's also 19. Assuming those rankings are somewhat accurate, there are reasons there are 49 other prospects ranked ahead of him. Tucker looks like a good prospect, but I'm not as high on him being remotely close to a q centerpiece. He's a second piece in a q deal
  25. QUOTE (HBaines03 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) I understand the reason for the rebuild and I think you trade whomever if it is a quality return. My concern is more if these prospects will be prepped and directed in the best manner possible to reach their potential and make the majors. My concern is if the major league coaching staff is up to the task of getting the best out of these players once they make the club. It was just 2-3 years ago we looked like a very talented, young cost controlled group and saw very weak results. I think our coaching staff did a very poor job of getting the best out of the group of men they had available. Thoughts? Ventura was an awful manager. Renteria has been lauded many times for how good he is at working with young players. Epstein selected renteria to be the manager to guide the cubs rebuild, I have faith that he will be an improvement. Trades will only get us so far. We need to draft really well, scout well, sign the right free agents, etc. To keep this rebuild on track
