Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
steveno89 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Replace Martin and Guduan with Reed and I'm in. JD Davis really reminds me of Matt Davidson as a prospect Plus power, fringe average hit tool, lots of strikeouts, tick above average arm, slightly below average fielder The stats look good from a distance, but when you start to dig into them and see a 26.5% K% in AA with a downward trend in batting average and OBP -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I think you guys are overestimating what the return may be for Eaton. I still think the Nats can do this without Turner. For Eaton alone? Yes, they have the prospects. But for Quintana + Eaton they do not have the pieces to cover the surplus value without leaving their farm in shambles That, and I don't trust us to be able to milk enough value out of one team's farm to justify that sort of a trade. Washington is likely going to offer something like: Giolito/Robles + Fedde/Neuse or Stevenson/Severino for Quintana and Eaton I would not accept that if I am the White Sox -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Considerably better? No, not at all. Prior to last season Heyward had averaged 5.18 WAR for the past six seasons, Eaton has averaged the same for the past three seasons Not knocking Adam's value, but Heyward had an excellent track record when he signed -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Okay so Kopech is elite but Robles isn't? Why? Robles tool grades are almost identical to Moncadas with more defense/speed on Robles and less power. Robles is really good prospect who would be a really great target in a trade. He has tons of ability but currently he will play in high A ball to start the year and realistically is 2-3 years away from reaching the mlb level. I feel like he will need near a full season at A+ ball before getting a mid-late season promotion to AA if everything goes well. The following season he would spend the majority of in AA, possibly getting the promotion to AAA mid season best case scenario We are looking at a 2019 debut at earliest for Robles and alot could go wrong before then -

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Huh? Eaton is BETTER than Heyward right now. Eaton had nearly identical offense seasons in 2015 and 2016, the difference in 3.7 WAR and 6.0 WAR was moving to RF. So had Eaton moved to RF a year sooner, it's entirely plausible that Eaton would be having back to back 6 WAR seasons. Lets not lose our minds here Heyward had a down year, but had been a considerably better player than Eaton Although given the contract he signed I would much rather have Eaton the next five years than Heyward -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Eaton doesn't have the upside of Heyward. Potential is always sexy in any investment. I'd compare Eaton's value and potential as a player to Alex Gordon five years ago Both are very similar players, just Eaton is entering his prime and Gordon is exiting his Alex Gordon at age 28 on a 5 year cheap contract is a very valuable player -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Shocked If Turner is involved. Turner is not going anywhere guys. Please stop including him in discussions. If they wouldn't include him for Sale then he is not being traded for anyone short of Trout. I'm still not sure if any mlb farm system outside of the Yankees could even put together an acceptable package for both Quintana and Eaton. The surplus value makes the price incredibly steep. Even considering packages usually end up being 50 - 75% return of what we as fans think, it would still have to be massive Quintana alone would get a centerpiece of Robles and Lopez + one more solid piece between an organization's #10 - 30 Eaton's value would get you at least two top prospects + another piece Don't see this happening for Washington -
QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) George Ofman @georgeofman 4m4 minutes ago Sox and Nats talking Quintana/Eaton package. Let's we where this goes. Better be a massive package including Giolito/Robles/Lopez ++

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:51 PM) My feeling is that in the winter, all the GMs know that 1B aren't really that hard to find and that just because Abreu is a pretty damn good hitter doesn't mean you have to sell the farm to get him. Come July, though, there are going to be 2-6 contenders who aren't getting production at 1B, DH, or perhaps another spot who will do anything to get a lively bat in their lineup. I look at it the same way that I do the idea of trading relief pitchers. You want to trade a reliever for a young Chris Davis? You won't do it in the winter. I agree^ Unless you get a terrific offer Abreu could be a marquee player available at the deadline for a contender and get a large return. If he did not have such an awful first two months he would have had a pretty great season in 2016

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) There seems to be more and more teams either tanking or seriously considering it, not just in baseball, but football and basketball as well. While it may be wise, it is going to take it's toll IMO on the leagues. A lot of uninteresting games. The problem is that in so many sports you can immediately identify a handful of teams that have a legitimate chance of winning the championship The White Sox are extremely unlikely to win the central division in 2017 or 2018 barring something crazy happening, so why not undergo a rebuild that can lead to future success? Tanking, if done purposefully and the right way combined with drafting well, scouting, free agent acquisition, etc. can turn the White Sox franchise around. We have gone WAY too long without a comprehensive rebuild and the organization should be better for it, finally committing to strengthening the farm going into the future to build a contender year in and year out

QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) I'd like to have Reed in a deal with Houston. Love to add some legit power to the lineup. Reed's value has taken a major hit in my opinion by striking out at a 34% rate (48 times in 141 plate appearances) and batting .164 in 45 games He was absolutely awful against lefties at the mlb level and is a below average defensive player Could he be a future DH? Possibly, but his mlb showing this year did significant damage to his prospect value. This season is make or break for him because if the bat does not play he has no defensive value or ability to play a position besides 1B or DH. Martes, Tucker and Reed would be a really interesting package, but I'm not sure if Houston would sell that low on a player like Reed who does have power if he can improve his contact -

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) It depends on the package that you get back. Q in '17 and Q in '18 - at a minimum - is irrelevant to the Sox next window of contention. In a best case scenario, Q gives you two years at the back end of his deal when the Sox are relevant, and the Sox contending in '19 is being really, really optimistic. The FA market for pitching this offseason is abysmal. Q may never have more trade value than he does today, and if you are getting offers back at that value, I think you have to move him. Adding another haul of prospects with upside will go a long way towards helping this team compete in the future Our farm after dealing Abreu, Q, Eaton, Robertson, Jones, Cabrera could look completely different than it did a week ago With two more seasons of drafting, scouting, player development and free agency you could have a team ready to compete in 2019 / 2020 that is very exciting -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:00 PM) I'm with you here. Better get a great haul if you're going to trade him. Now is a good of a time as ever to get a big haul for Quintana Most experts seem to think the White Sox did really well in the Sale trade, now time to nail down the Q deal -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) It's always been SS. Most pro baseball players have been a SS at some level. It's always been where you put your best player. I don't care what position a prospect plays at this point What we need to be looking for is talent above anything. Most SS could play OF, 2B or 3B if needed We are looking to improve farm system quality and depth -
QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) So the Rox lose the 11th overall pick and the Rangers gain a compensation round pick right? Allowing us to move from the 12th to 11th overall pick? Correct We move up to #11 (although I don't believe we get additional bonus pool money as a result) Texas gets a comp A round pick
-
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:17 PM) If the Nats are getting Eaton and Q, they are giving up Turner. No excuses. Eaton and Q in one deal cripples any mlb farm system and just is not doable
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Danks is on the phone. Fister on a one year, $5 million deal is zero risk to the White Sox really He pitched 180 innings and we are going to need those to be eaten somehow Let our young players develop in the minors and absolutely tank at the mlb level to land a top draft pick With the right deconstruction we can land a top 5 pick the next two seasons in a row and be improved dramatically by 2019 / 2020
-
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) If the Sox aren't able to acquire a young 3B via trade and aren't interested in signing Abreu to an extension, they should consider offering Frazier a four-year deal. With Melky on his way out and Abreu getting older and more injury-prone, the Sox are going to need a reliable power bat in the middle of the lineup. His defense at 3B is also a plus, though he may have to move to 1B in the last year of that contract. His age and good-but-not-great bat should make him affordable and relatively low-risk financially. What's the point of paying Frazier as we go through a rebuild though? Worst case we keep him and get draft pick compensation for him We can also hope that he has a good season and trade him at the deadline to a contender who needs a power bat I'd shop him now and see what you can get. If it's not decent then he stays.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) That's not close IMO On second thought I take it back I'd want Albies plus a lot more for 4 years of Quintana. Especially in this market -
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) I don't know if it's wise, but reports are that they signed him largely to play 1B. The Rockies gave Desmond 5 years / $70 million AND forfeited the #11 overall pick in the draft Huge ouch in my opinion. I would have sought other options before giving up a top 15 draft pick
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Meh, I actually think it would be a decent pick up. Especially if Q is gone. Trade Q Sign Holland and Fister to one year deals. If they do well they might be trade worthy at the deadline. Regardless we still need some bodies to eat innings for us next year
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I get signing rehab projects and hoping to get something, but this is a guy who first of all is always hurt. OK, you get fortunate and he's healthy. Secondly, gives up a lot of home runs. Not good where the Sox play. Third, throws very few groundballs. Again, not good on the southside of Chicago. He's the kind of guy who is behind the eight ball if things go his way. There has to be someone out there to if it all goes right, has a decent chance of success. Holland just needs too many miracles to get something of value for him. Is Doug Fister an option? He is a groundball pitcher
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) At first I thought this was referring to Greg Holland, I was very confused. Derek Holland would be a great signing, you need someone to start, and if he does well, flip him at the deadline. Holland can't require much to sign on a one year deal What do we really have to lose?
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) We also move up a draft slot with this signing. Do we really?? Dang just looked it up and we do move up one slot So we sit at #11 overall instead of #12 it seems Only a good thing for us
