  1. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:28 AM) I don't know if it's wise, but reports are that they signed him largely to play 1B. The Rockies gave Desmond 5 years / $70 million AND forfeited the #11 overall pick in the draft Huge ouch in my opinion. I would have sought other options before giving up a top 15 draft pick
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Meh, I actually think it would be a decent pick up. Especially if Q is gone. Trade Q Sign Holland and Fister to one year deals. If they do well they might be trade worthy at the deadline. Regardless we still need some bodies to eat innings for us next year
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I get signing rehab projects and hoping to get something, but this is a guy who first of all is always hurt. OK, you get fortunate and he's healthy. Secondly, gives up a lot of home runs. Not good where the Sox play. Third, throws very few groundballs. Again, not good on the southside of Chicago. He's the kind of guy who is behind the eight ball if things go his way. There has to be someone out there to if it all goes right, has a decent chance of success. Holland just needs too many miracles to get something of value for him. Is Doug Fister an option? He is a groundball pitcher
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) At first I thought this was referring to Greg Holland, I was very confused. Derek Holland would be a great signing, you need someone to start, and if he does well, flip him at the deadline. Holland can't require much to sign on a one year deal What do we really have to lose?
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) We also move up a draft slot with this signing. Do we really?? Dang just looked it up and we do move up one slot So we sit at #11 overall instead of #12 it seems Only a good thing for us
  6. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) The Rockies seem like they want to compete. Deal them whoever they want for a package around Rodgers and Dahl and I'd be ECSTATIC. Wow, 5 years / 70 million for Desmond He might play first base for the Rockies
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) I'm not saying it makes a ton of sense, just that its been hinted about in different places. There was something put out a while back that said everyone is on the table including Rodon. So when they called him out specifically and Rick has been puffing him up as TOR starter even in his PC yesterday, that there is some chance. It also could be that I am reading too much into what they have said too... Moving Rodon would not make sense right now. He is a piece you keep as he is under control for 5 more seasons and can get better.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) I agree. Sign him to a one year deal or one year with an option and see if he can rebuild value. Wieters is not going to take a one year deal in this market. He is going to get overpaid
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) From what I understand, they have C- Murphy 1B- ? 2B- DJ SS- Story 3B- Arenado LF- Desmond/Parra/Dahl CF- Blackmon RF- Gonzalez Basically, Dahl is now freed up to be traded. The Rockies pitching currently is not good enough to compete Trading for any of Quintana / Robertson / Jones would help them alot
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Rockies signed Desmond. Per Rosenthal Interesting. Signing Desmond indicates that the Rockies are trying to compete now I'd see if they are interested in Abreu, Quintana, Robertson, Jones, etc

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:09 AM) Suzuki is a bad idea. He is a horrible defensive catcher. We need real catchers to help what is likely to be a very young staff. Current options include: - Trade for a young catcher - Chris Ianetta - Ryan Hanigan (bad defense) -Kurt Suzuki - Al Avila - Welington Castillo (likely going to get overpaid and has several teams interested) - Matt Wieters (would make no sense for us)
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) I would not be shocked if Rodon gets moved. There have been little hints about it in the past, even yesterday when RH was talking about Sale he said he has "others" that fit the description of front line pitchers that teams can plug into playoff rotations. I know that Rodon seems like the kind of asset you hang on to, but given his agent and his performance in the second half, I could see the Sox moving him to try to build a core at the lower levels. Kopech is likely two years away as is Hansen, Burdi would be too if they decide to make him a starter. If they get the right deal for him, I think Rodon could get moved soon as well. Why look to move Rodon right now? He is under team control for 5 more season and is exactly the type of arm you want to keep around. He could still be on the team in a few years when you are ready to compete and just be entering his prime
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) My first thought with Puig on a bad team was good god no but if that dude comes over here and produces along with playing nice in the clubhouse we could get a nice return on that investment at the trade deadline somewhere down the line. That is how you rebuild. The front office's entire focus must be to completely clean house, torpedo the next two seasons and get young The White Sox are probably the only team that currently is willing to sell off all of it's major league talent over the age of 25 Robertson, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Cabrera, Jones, Gonzalez, Lawrie...all of them should go to restock the farm
  14. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) If its Yankees ....how about Torres, Rutherford, Kaprielian, Adams, and Torrens(really want catcher) for Q and Robertson. No way New York parts with that much for Quintana and Robertson Torres is not going anywhere after destroying the Arizona Fall League

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) I am all for that if we are unable to nab a decent ML catcher in a deal. Avila, while horrifically frustrating to watch at the plate, is a decent player. Just can't expect more than 60 or so games from him. Problem is, Sox literally have no one behind Narvaez. Honestly signing Ianetta / Suzuki or Avila to go along with Narvaez is probably what we are going to get right now Unless we can swing a trade for a close to mlb ready catching prospect
  16. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:45 AM) I have zero interest in Giolito from his mid year performance and concerning Fangraphs article. I would rather have Lopez/Robles I agree Give me Lopez and Robles and one more lower level player and done deal

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) I say Wellington Castillo, or just bring back Avila. Let Narvaez get good playing time. I do think the Sox will probably acquire a ML ready catcher in one of these deals though. Tom Murphy from the Rox or Pedro Severino from the Nats are two to keep an eye on. Several other teams are in on Castillo, and unless we pay him the most I don't see why he would not want to go elsewhere considering we are tearing it all down
  18. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) So does Pittsburgh. Quintana's cheap four years of control make sense for a TON of teams. There actually might be more suitors for him than there were for Sale

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:19 AM) "He's not Navarro this is spectacular!!!" Narvaez did a pretty decent job during his 34 games at the big league level I thought. Probably not starting catcher material, but certainly could be a quality backup He's only 24 years old as well, worth hanging onto. Collins should absolutely be developed as a catcher in the minors for a few more seasons. Since we are going to suck the next few seasons anyway all we need is a serviceable defensive catcher. Is Chris Ianetta available?
  20. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) In a heartbeat. But it seems NY is attempting a different approach with holding onto prospects at this point. The Yankees farm system is so stacked. I could see them being an excellent team in 3-4 years at this rate coupled with a few free agent signings
  21. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) I think you would take that. Having said that, I'd like to get a hold of Bird. Having 4 of the top 30 prospects in baseball would be an amazing start to a rebuild, although I don't see the Yankees being interested in trading their future away If I can't get very close to the same value for Sale as Quintana (especially with 4 years of cheap control) then I won't trade him
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:49 AM) Q and Abreu for Rogers/Dahl and mid- level MiLB pitcher? Rodgers or Dahl, or Rodgers AND Dahl? No way they trade both players
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) A lot of other guys in our system have potential too- the Jake Peters of the world. Wouldn't be surprised to see someone like that become good enough to start for us. Eh maybe, but unlikely sign me up for a couple years of tanking for draft picks
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Good to see I'm not the only one that wants Reed. Since Houston would not be including Bregman in any deal I would want multiple nice pieces coming back to the White Sox Reed, Tucker, Martes would be a solid return
  25. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) I'd need the Cards Top 5: Reyes (#7 MLB), Weaver (#81 MLB), Bader (#82 MLB), Flaherty (#4 STL) and Perez (#5 STL). If you do a reverse rankings formula of sorts where #1 = 100 points, Sale netted 170+ points (Moncada = worth 100, Kopech worth 70). The Cards deal above nets 130+ (Reyes 93, Weaver 19, Bader 18) No way st Louis parts with that much for Eaton. I read a st Louis fan article that wouldn't part with weaver for Eaton and I laughed
