  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Morosi knows nothing. Honestly, I don't think Quintana is really on the block Sox are curious to see what they can get for Sale before exploring other options Honestly, if the offers do not get better than Giolito + Robles plus few more guys I say we keep him. I'm not willing to move a cost controlled ace for a less than stellar package
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:57 PM) I'm not sure I take that deal I don't think I take that deal either, too much risk for the White Sox Robles is a nice player, but still has a long way to go before sniffing the mlb. I can't see him being ready until mid 2018 at the earliest, more likely 2019. Giolito scares me. I just get this feeling that he will bust. Although young for each level, he never really has dominated like he should, and his showing at the mlb level this season was pretty bad. I've read several reports that the Nationals rank Lopez above Giolito as a prospect.
  3. QUOTE (gosoxtim8 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) is this Giolito ready or he needs more time in the minors Giolito is close to mlb ready, although there are some red flags His velocity was down late in the season and he had command issues He is not a sure thing, and I worry that his physical size and stuff project to being an ace, but that the on field results won't ever reach it
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Yes please. really depends on what that "much more" ends up being? Giolito makes me nervous, and Robles has never played above A ball. A good season from Robles would move him up into a top 5 mlb prospect, but a bad season where he struggles would make this look ugly.
  5. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Wonder if we misdrafted in 2014 when we selected Carlos Rodon over the now seemingly untouchable Trea Turner, who we are told cannot be included in a trade for perennial Cy Young finalist Chris Sale. Last I looked, Sale >>>> Rodon, at least at this point in time. I don't think so. I really liked Turner as a prospect, but not at #3 overall at the time. Rodon is only 24 years old and has shown flashes of great ability. He may not have the ceiling of a #1 starter, but he could end up being a #2 or #3.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Yeah, one thing I'm keeping in mind is all of Boston/Houston/Washington have huge incentive to leak to media that their untouchable is not available, they don't want to be in that bidding war when the Sox call and say "HOU just offered Bregman, do you want an opportunity to top it?" Sox will keep Sale unless one team ups the offer. When you have multiple teams bidding the price goes up because the Sox know they do not have to settle I actually would keep him unless we get a premium package in return
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Even Trout? Trout's trade value is something the baseball world has never seen before. He's averaged 9.6 WAR the past 5 seasons and is only 25 years old. He is scheduled to be paid a load of money the next four seasons (worth every penny). He might actually be too valuable to trade
  8. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) If we don't get at least Turner Giolito Robles for Sale I won't like the deal. If we don't get Turner at all I don't see the point in making the trade. Don't like their secondary prospects either from what I've looked at so far. Dunning could be ok but he's 2+ years away. Nats are not trading Turner, Giolito and Robles in a package for any one player. I would fire a GM for doing that
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Here's how I see it...there is a gap in the valuation of a guy like Turner in that one side sees 6 years of control of an all-star-caliber player as being worth more than Sale alone and the other side that says "I need to see a LOT more before I'm buying that." The Nats feel Sale may be worth Turner or Turner and something very marginal. The Sox say give me Turner plus 2-3 other top 25 guys. This gap needs to be bridged. The way you do it is to bring back another guy from the Sox who has a lot of "projected value," in Eaton. That way the Nats can sell him as the replacement for losing Turner while also bringing back Sale. The White Sox capture an MLB-ready star to appease their fans as well as adding the depth and talent to their farm system necessary for a rebuild. Hell, I'd even throw in Robertson for another one of their top 15 guys. Sale/Eaton/Robertson for Turner/Giolito/Robles + 2 more top 10 and 2 top 20 prospects. That proposal hugely undervalues Eaton, who posted a 6.23 WAR this season and has average 5 WAR the past three seasons. Turner looks like a great prospect, but the White Sox would be giving up way too much by including him in negotiations On his own, an Eaton package would likely have to start with Giolito/Lopez and Robles plus another good prospect or two
  10. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) I disagree. I would take Turner/Robles/Giolito/Lopez plus 3-4 more of their top 10 prospects (Fedde, Kieboom, Dunning, Neuse, Stevenson) for both Sale & Eaton. It would be a huge risk for both teams, but the Nationals may never have a better window than they do right now to win the next two seasons until Harper is likely gone Standing pat really is not an option, and they do not have time to wait for players like Giolito/Lopez/Robles to develop into mlb contributors before Bryce is gone. For fun, a mega blockbuster that resulted in the Nationals acquiring something like: Sale, Eaton and Robertson would position them very well to go for it in 2017 and 2018 Eaton could handle center field, although he is a beast in right, and replace the offense lost by Turner Sale gives them the best rotation, when healthy, in baseball Robertson helps solidify the bullpen after Melancon signed with San Francisco. Note: This will not happen, but fun to think about
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) I agree with this. but the white sox would be choosing to get a single high impact player over using Eaton to build depth. Some may oppose that and i understand why, but acquiring Turner, Giolito, Robles, and more is worth it. You can still try your damndest to turn around your scouting in next two years and trade some excess chaff for davidson level gambles. Eaton is already a really good player in his own right. Cost controlled for 5 seasons, trading him would likely hurt the White Sox far more than what they would receive in return for him. Prospects bust all the time, when you finally have a cheap all star player you should keep him. The Nationals and Red Sox are primarily interested in Sale, adding Eaton into the mix pushes the deal into a whole new stratosphere of value that is not going to happen. Washington is absolutely in win now mode with Harper hitting free agency in two years. White Sox can hold firm on their trade requests and put the Nationals into a difficult choice. They really do have to go for it and win now, because Harper is unlikely to be resigned.
  12. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Anderson can probably play OF and 2B as well. If the Sox acquire another prospect who can play SS, then they should let the better defensive SS of Anderson and whoever the other prospect/player is, play SS and other guy to a different position. Not hard to do. Anderson actually put up 1.21 Defensive WAR in 99 games in 2016, which is very impressive for a rookie Hard to see them moving him off SS after that performance
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) I think it goes a little something like this: Hahn - "Mike, you can offer Giolito and Robles all day long, but I've got to have Turner." Rizzo - "If I'm giving up Turner, I can't give you Giolito OR Robles...and I'm not even sure I can get a sign off on Turner, to be honest." Hahn - "You know our suite #, Mike." Rizzo - "Rick, you've got to help me offset Turner if I'm going to move him..." Hahn - "What about Melky?" Rizzo - "Come on Rick. I need someone who will be here for at least a couple years. Give me Adam." Hahn - Eaton is not off the table, but then I'm going to need Turner and your top 3-4 guys, Mike." Rizzo "Give me Adam" is way beyond a throw in to help offset a deal haha, it's a completely different trade negotiation. Eaton is under contract for what amounts to pennies: 2017 28 Chicago White Sox $4,000,000 4.030 2018 29 Chicago White Sox $6,000,000 2019 30 Chicago White Sox $8,400,000 2020 31 Chicago White Sox *$9,500,000 $9.5M Team Option, $1.5M Buyout 2021 32 Chicago White Sox *$10,500,000 $10.5M Team Option, $1.5M Buyout Earliest Free Agent: 2020 He is in his prime as well. Eaton would like require Giolito and Robles (I've read internally the Nationals consider Lopez to have surpassed Giolito in the pecking order)
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Pretty clear this isn't true. I was just posturing what it would take for a team to acquire both Sale and Eaton HUGE doubts that any team would be able to stomach the return it would take
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) I smell a mega deal for Sale and Eaton... Sale AND Eaton would require an absolutely enormous package going back to the White Sox It's pretty insane to think about, but you're talking about 11 WAR per season being dealt It would absolutely have to start with Turner, followed closely by Giolito, Robles, Ross, Lopez, Fedde, Kieboom I'm not even certain that is enough for two all star players under cheap control Sale would return: Turner, Ross, Robles, Kieboom + Eaton would return: Giolito, Lopez, Fedde + I don't think there is a team in baseball with the farm system to trade for both Eaton and Sale. It would more than gut any system, any team would be setting their minor league depth back 5 years
  16. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:54 AM) I might be the only one, but Robles. Truly believe he's going to be a stud. Those tools, premium position. He could be the top prospect in baseball in short order. I like Robles, but 2017 is a big year for him in that he needs to show he can handle high A ball pitching for 40-50 games and make the promotion to AA. AA will be a big test as the pitching is much better.
  17. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Another possibility could be the Pirates don't want Robles in the trade but instead want a different headliner. McCutchen is not going to net the Pirates a better prospect than Robles, and I have my doubts Washington wants to part with a prospect like Robles for him with only two years of control left I see Washington being able to offer Ross, Giolito, Robles + two more pieces for Sale. The front office will have to think hard about that offer.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:02 AM) Pretty brutal Jamison Fisher review too. Fairly honest appraisal of the system for me. The White Sox badly need an infusion of top end talent, as well as depth
  19. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) The stat doesn't, but 7 WAR players sure do. If that's what they think they have in Turner, they're not going to trade him plus top prospects for Sale. I understand Washington's reluctance to include Turner in a package. He is a player they really want to keep. That being said, without him in the deal they will really have to overwhelm the White Sox with a 5-6 player offer to get them to agree. Realistically an offer of Ross, Giolito, Robles, Lopez or Fedde, and Kieboom or Neuse would get the White Sox attention. Atlanta could be interesting. I get not wanting to part with Swanson, but if they put Albies, Maitan and Newcomb + more in a package it could work. Each team might be able to take a player off the table like Turner and Swanson, but you can't have other untouchables after that and expect a deal to get done
  20. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) I think Joe Ross would definitely be on the table. If they were to get Sale they would have a rotation of Sale, Scherzer, Strausburg, Roark, and Gio(not too shabby). AJ Cole is another guy. Probably more of a back of the rotation starter but he's 24 and has had a good bit of success in the minors. Struggled in 8 starts this past year but was still able to K a batter per IP. Wilmer Difo has a ton of speed and is supposed to be a wizard with the glove. If he can hold his own at the plate he could be a starting quality 2B quickly. And then Michael Taylor is still only 25. He could be an interesting change of scenery guy. Obviously Cole, Difo, and Taylor and end of the package type guys, but I think there is definitely a deal to be made with Wash if they are willing to give us both Giolito and Robles. After those 2 it could be 1 of Ross/Lopez as the 3rd piece and the 4th and 5th wouldn't have to be any of their top 5 prospects for me. I think a deal is very possible, just hinges on us getting BOTH Giolito and Robles + Lopez or Ross. I trust the White sox to develop pitching, but much less so to develop a young hitter from the low minors to the major leagues. The price for Sale will not come down, be patient and wait until another organization to cave to the Sox demands. Anything less than a massive package for Sale would be a mistake.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 4, 2016 -> 10:08 PM) I think All-Star is an understatement...the numbers he put up last year are HOF type numbers. Obviously I get it's just a half season, but that kind of speed and power, along with that type of batting average is pretty unheard of. Say he comes down to earth and becomes a 12-18 homer guy...if he hits .315 with 40-50 SB for the next several years...that's Rickey Henderson-esque. I'm actually fine with keeping sale if the offers aren't good enough. We can always put him on the block at the deadline and see what a contender would offer.
  22. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) Sale and two filler pieces to the Astros for Bregman, Reed, Paulino, Musgrove and Fisher. Robertson to the Dodgers for Puig Abreu to the Red Sox for Kopech and Swihart Abreu for kopech and swihart would be an awful trade for the white sox
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) Holy f*** this franchise is terrible. I'd rather watch Jason Coats suck than Garcia strikeout and suck at this point Or Charlie Tilson, or Jacob May, or anyone really Avi sucks
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) Don't forget, unless something changed with this brand new CBA, the team can still cut Garcia before spring training by paying him something like 15 or 20% of the value of the deal. Consider this his final chance, it does not matter since the Sox are not going anywhere in 2017. Might as well give him a final shot
  25. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Good defender, solid framer, offensively terrible the last two years. Good buy low option, been wanting the Sox to go after him for a few years now. Absolutely brutal batting average of .184 last season and his K% of over 30% is AWFUL That bat is a black hole in your lineup Chance he might improve, but the trend lines say otherwise with his rising K% rate the past three seasons
