  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:17 PM) Instead of using the team friendly contracts to their advantage they are going to to trade at least one those good contracts away and lose any advantage they may have had. Then IF they become competitive Rodon and Anderson will leave for the greener pastures. They really are showing to be as poorly a run franchise as there is. I guess I had my head in the sand. Years of underdrafting and not using the international system to their benefit has caught up to them. Maybe they have realized it now but it appears to be too late. Jones is replaceable. The white sox need an infusion of young position player talent that the organization does not currently possess. Jones is a more attractive trade chip than Robertson due to the years of control and low salary
  2. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) Yeah, longterm, although a lot could change in a year anyway, but regardless, both Conforto and Cecchini are blocked for 2017. Would be a good deal for both teams. The two mets are blocked and jones is under cheap control for years.
  3. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Saw Dave Cameron wrote an article about the Mets should try to move Michael Conforto now (they have a huge glut of OFs). What about something like OF Michael Conforto + SS Gavin Cecchini for Nate Jones? Conforto was the #80 ranked prospect before his 1st major league season. He has now played a full season worth of games in the majors, and despite a low average (.238), he has a fine walk rate of 10%, and an average K% of 23%, to go along with 21 HR, above average defense, 109 wRC+ and a 3.4 WAR. Gavin Cecchini is a SS likely to end up at 2B, and I would guess would come in around the top 50 in prospect lists. Was ranked #87 last year before hitting .325 in 117 AAA games this season, walking 10% of the time and only striking out a fantastic 11%. He also hits 8 HR, should play above average defense at 2B and has a strong arm. Conforto will turn 24 before the year starts, Cecchini turns 23 in a month. Both are obviously major league ready, and both former 1st RD picks (10th and 12th respectively). Both of them for Jones straight up? I would strongly consider it
  4. QUOTE (professa @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) How bout this scenario where BOTH SALE and QUINTANA are traded: Sale, Robertson, & Lawrie to Houston for Bregman, McCullers, AJ Reed and David Paulino Since LA missed out on the Sale derby, they resort to Quintana Quintana & Frazier to LA for Joc, Urias, Bellinger, & Barnes I spent some time flip flopping the players we send to each team (i.e. maybe Sale goes to LA and Q and Frazier go to Houston). Either way, I think these are fairly fair deals. With respect to the topic, I think this team could be no worse than last year especially after trading both Sale & Quintana 1. Eaton RF 2. Anderson SS 3. Melky LF 4. Abreu 1B/DH 5. Joc CF 6. Bregman 3B 7. AJ Reed 1B/DH 8. Saladino 2B 9. C FA Signing Chris Ianetta or Hank Conger (Historically solid framers and cheap) Rotation: 1. Rodon 2. Gonzalez 3. Urias 4. McCullers 5. Shields I don't think Quintana and Frazier nets the White Sox Joc, Urias, Bellinger and Barnes. That is a massive return. Also, I don't see Houston dealing McCullers in a Sale trade if they want to compete. Musgrove is much more likely. Even still, that roster is not a playoff team for at least a few years
  5. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) His opportunistic time to trade him is now. Waiting until next trade deadline is risky cause he could get hurt. Plus the more time he stays with the sox the less years of control a teams is getting in him. Also next offseason is a big one for free agents expecially pitching wise. Hes the best there is now on the market whether its free agency or trading. Someone will pony up cause not to many pitchers of his level are available. I think he probably will get traded within the next few weeks, but I would put it at a 65% chance he gets traded, 35% chance he stays
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) This is exactly the way it should be. If we don't get the return we deserve for a player of Sale's caliber then we don't make a trade. If we regroup for 2017 we build around pitching If the return for Sale is not what we want then absolutely I keep him and move forward. You can still get a ton of value at the deadline or next offseason for him
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) It would totally be a White Sox type of move. I want no part of Eovaldi 100% pass
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) It would totally be a White Sox type of move. I want no part of Eovaldi 100% pass
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) I don't think levine is a good beat reporter, but I do worry that sox operate passively in trade talks and force teams to go to them vs. initiate bidding wars. But reality is I think sox are just waiting for CBA to be resolved. This is entirely CBA related right now
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) Why cant this be done while still having a good season? They still get draft picks as far as I know. Look, if you dont trust the FO I get it. Most fans dont. But to wish the team does bad after their most significant trade of this rebuild seems faulty to me. They are still allowed to make trades as they go. I get bmags point about not trusting the FO to do this but damn, I trust that having a good season is never going to be a bad thing. I hope they do well and then build upon that not loosing sight of the plan. If they decide to go full rebuild and they suck I will trust that too. I am not going to be closed to any way they want to do this as long as they have a damn long term plan. By trading Sale you would be punting on 2017 and likely 2018. But there is no reason why you could not compete in 2019 with the right moves
  11. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) By all accounts Swihart should not be catching due to defensive shortcomings. Swihart has a decent bat, but is a bad defensive catcher and is injury prone He does not have near the value I have seen many place on him
  12. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Dude. Jones is a far superior reliever to Robertson at this point in time. Much better contract too. You have to get a Giles-to-Astros type deal for Jones...not a swap for Puig, who has 2 years of control left. Agreed. I would not trade Jones for Puig straight up at this point. I do not want Puig
  13. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 26, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) I'm hoping the Sox come away from the winter meetings with a Bregman package for Sale, and a Benintendi package for Quintana. Then the rest is gravy with Frazier, Melky, Abreu, etc. IMO Very doubtful they trade sale and Quintana. Rebuild or not they still have to field a team next year. Be patient and let the market come to the sox
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) While the #Braves still would love to land Chris Sale, I still can't see them parting with the bounty of prospects it'll take to get him. https://twitter.com/DOBrienAJC/status/800779328439123968 Agreed. The Braves have a promising future in a few years, but they are not close enough right now to go all in and trade for Sale I see the Yankees as being a strong potential destination. They really could use the starting pitching and they have the farm system able to get a deal done
  15. 16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Yeah, I agree. I don't really see a fit. Teams who are close or relatively close to contending that may have interest in Sale: Yankees, Mets, Cubs, Giants, Dodgers, Astros, Mariners, Rangers, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Nationals, Red Sox, Orioles (Sox won't trade Sale to the AL central) Mets could be interesting, although I don't know if they have the quality minor league arms to get a deal done Yankees have the farm system to swing a deal I don't thin the Rangers have enough even if they do include Mazara. Gallo's value is down and I feel Profar is very overrated Giants do not have the farm system to get it done Unlikely that Sale is dealt to the Cubs Astros should be in the mix Mariners likely do not have enough to entice the Sox Blue Jays are a possibility, but I don't love their farm Cardinals do not likely have enough in the farm, plus the Sox should be looking for elite postion player prospects Red Sox should be in the picture Orioles do not have the farm system Nationals do have what it takes, but I am not as high on Giolito as most are. He really has not dominated like the #1 pitching prospect in baseball should. I do like Turner and Robles. Mystery teams could emerge of course as well
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) I'd imagine that Atlanta feels it would be pointless to move Inciarte/Swanson in a Sale deal (since they are MLB pieces), so I'd think the highest assets available would be Maitan/Albies. Then the White Sox likely move on from the Braves Maitan, while a good looking player, is too risky for the Sox to have as a main piece coming back to them as he is years away from contributing...if ever I like Albies, but far more would have to be coming back to the Sox
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) Translation: They just heard what teams want for pitchers like Archer, Gray, and Sale. Atlanta is not close enough to being competitive in my opinion to justify taking the Sale plunge Sale's value is extremely high considering what pitchers like Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman (rental) and Shelby Miller were dealt for Andrew Miller netted Frazier #15 overall, Sheffield #78 overall and two low minors pitchers that were both having strong seasons (decent lottery tickets) Chapman rental netted Torres #17 overall, Adam Warren a serviceable bullpen arm, Mckinney a former top 100 prospect and decent organizational depth guy, and crawford a low minors lottery ticket Shelby Miller netted Dansby Swanson #4 overall now (#17 at time of the trade), Inciarte a quality mlb center fielder and Blair who has decent potential as a back end rotation arm who was ranked #40 overall prospect at the time of the trade The return for Sale should be significantly more than any of these deals Considering the above, I would suggest that Sale's value (relatively speaking) should fall in the category of: 1) One very solid mlb starting caliber pitcher/position player or top #50 mlb prospect (White Sox choice) 2) Two top #50 mlb prospects, one of which must be a top #25 prospect 3) One more #50 - 100 prospect 4) One more lottery ticket Given this...a Braves offer could look something like: Swanson, Albies, Newcomb, Allard/Anderson/Maitan/Soroka/Wentz plus one lower level lottery ticket Or Inciarte, Albies, Newcomb, Allard/Anderson,Maitan/Soroka/Wentz plus one lower level lottery ticket I am not suggesting that Atlanta would be willing to part with that...but that is the market value in light of other deals
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) You *SHOULD* be gutting your farm system to add a Chris Sale. You have a top of the rotation starter under control for 3 years. You're making a move to win those 3 years. You will have 3 years of drafts and signings to restock that system. Should is different than reality though I'm I'm Houston, I am very interested in Sale...but trading Bregman, Martes, Tucker plus two more high quality prospects is just too high of a price to stomach Chris Sale has a ton of value, but getting a team to part with 5 of their 10 top prospects is a painful pill to swallow An offer of Bregman, Tucker, Martes and Moran alone would be a very compelling one for the White Sox to consider
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) True - Traditionally pitching prospects have more projected value compared to hitters. Alright, you've got a deal. Chris Sale for Bregman, Martes, Tucker, Moran, and Whitley. Boom. Call up the commish. -RH I don't see Houston ever being willing to part with that much talent to trade for Sale Bregman, Martes and Tucker alone is a huge return...Moran and Whitley being added would completely gut the farm system for years
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Agreed. I'm trying to be realistic and read about these prospects and be objective through this "fun exercise." That deal trumps the LAD deal IMO. If the White Sox were offered Bregman, Martes, Tucker, Moran and Reed I would be floored That would be crippling for Houston to offer and a no brainer for the White Sox to accept and not look back
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Got an offer that's more attractive from another team - not interested even with Feede in. Willing to talk Quintana for a Giolito / Robles based package thou. Quintana is great, but I'm not willing to give up both Giolito and Robles for him I would offer Giolito or Robles plus Fedde or Dunning Plus pick two outside our organizational top 10
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Gotta include Feede, Gutierrez, and Stevenson as well. Those last two are low level lottery tickets and don't mean much to you. Ross, Giolito, Robles, Feede, Gutierrez, and Stevenson for Sale. -Rick Rock, You're asking for way too much. Ross, Giolito and Robles gives you a young starting pitcher, one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, and a top ten prospect in Robles who has a huge ceiling Nothing more needs to be added -Rizzo
  24. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Some proven major league talent for Q as well. Price just went up. Dodgers offered an insane package just now. There's nothing on the free agent market and you need another front line starter to go all the way. We have no real need to sell either of our aces. -Rick I can offer a package of Joe Ross, Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles for Chris Sale That is a huge return -Rizzo
  25. QUOTE (hi8is @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Gotta have Turner for Sale. Willing to listen on a Giolito based package for Quintana. Waiting on Fieldman for a Segar based package for Sale. NaNaNaNa-hey hey hey... goodbye. -Rick Hahn Rick, I can build a compelling package based around Giolito and Robles as a starting point. Both are top 10 prospects in the game If that doesn't wet your whistle I'm not sure what more you're looking for -Rizzo
