  1. Encarnacion is a far better DH option than McCann/Collins at this stage. The 26 man roster allows keeping three catchers to be easier, but EE would be the first legitimate DH we have had in awhile. A one year deal for around $10-12 million should get it done.
  2. Teams regularly cobble together production out of less expensive players, it's called getting value. Homer Bailey was paid $555K in 2019 and had a nearly 3 WAR season as an example.
  3. The more I think about it, I'm not sure if I even want an aging David Price on the Sox. We would be stuck with three seasons of him at a likely substantial cost, why make that our problem? There are bargain bin players available that are younger and cheaper that could give us similar production.
  4. I would not expect Kopech to be pitching in the majors until May/June at the earliest. April should be spent in AAA, and they will see how it goes from there. Working back from TJS takes time, anything we get from him this season is gravy
  5. It is mid December in the offseason, wait to judge the roster until March Despite fans being impatient, the front office is aware of what the rotation and roster currently look like. If you are patient I will bet they add at least 1-2 starting pitchers, a bullpen piece or two and likely position players
  6. Where have you been seeing this?^ I see way more doom and gloom than optimism lately from the fanbase. We just need to be patient and wait to see how this offseason unfolds
  7. Based on what?^ It is currently December 13th, still early in the offseason. The AL Central is the most winnable division in the MLB, I do not buy your argument at all.
  8. Sure, Keuchel could help the Sox, I'm not disagreeing with that. But at what cost? No chance I am going four years with him, and I do not even love going three unless the price is reasonable
  9. Hell no. Just no. The Sox are headed in the right direction despite Grandal being the only splash so far this offseason. Kopech/Robert/Madrigal will be up getting their feet wet at the MLB level in 2020, and we depending on how the rest of the offseason shakes out we could be a .500 team, perhaps even better. Giolito and Moncada are key pieces the we need to contend and are not getting traded. Perpetual rebuilding will not get you anywhere, eventually you have to put all of your chips in and go for it.
  10. Do not get sucked into the trap of paying for past performance, when evaluating whether to sign potential free agents you must consider what they project to do for you moving forward. Paying and expecting Keuchel to be more than a #4 is a mistake, take a look https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/dallas-keuchel-572971?stats=career-r-pitching-mlb
  11. Teams are looking at the same player we are. Keuchel may want four years, but I do not see him getting it. I see him settling at a $15-18 AAV, and maybe a desperate team gives a fourth year, but I highly doubt it.
  12. No. Keuchel is an innings eating #4/5 starter who is not likely to get any better age 32 onward. He's still plenty serviceable parked in the back of a rotation, but should the Sox pay any more than 3/$45 for him? I would not.
  13. Rays were likely the best overall team that offered him a contract. Gets to live in Florida, no state income tax, competitive team, bingo
  14. I think the Sox would have signed Wheeler if offered 5/130 No player is going to leave $12 million on the table, Wheeler reportedly left $7, but $12? No chance
  15. Eduardo Rodriguez and Andrew Benintendi are directly mentioned in the article, and each would still likely require Boston to pay down Price's salary. It would not require much in the way of prospect capital going back to Boston, but a deal hinges on how badly Boston wants to get salary off the books. I'm not sure Price is a gamble the White Sox should be willing to take unless the money can be worked out.
  16. I'd roll the dice on Lindblom for that money He clearly improved in Asia
  17. Long story short, no club is going to be touching the Price contract unless the Red Sox pay down a gigantic portion of it, or attach Rodriguez or Benintendi potentially.
  18. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/david-prices-trade-value/ This article that came out today nails Price's market value pretty well
  19. Not necessarily true^ There is a big difference between teams being interested, and how much of Price's contract teams would be willing to pay. It would not be crazy to ask Boston for $10-12 million per season towards his 3/$96 million remaining deal. No team is swallowing that entire contract, period.
  20. Boston is in a tough spot because they badly need to lower payroll in order to have flexibility to improve a flawed roster. They are paying eight players nearly $175 million in 2020, that is totally screwed up moving forward
  21. The fanbase has suffered without a playoff appearance since 2008. We only get ONE shot at this entire rebuild, so there absolutely has to be more urgency than we have seen. Anything less than going all in to win is unacceptable. If not now, when?
  22. Many teams would be interested in him on a year year deal, especially MN
  23. Screw that^ Let Boston choke on Price's contract
  24. I do not mind the Sox getting Mazara because worst case if we do not acquire a better RF option we can roll with him, truth
  25. Top 20 remaining FA SP with Porcello signed: 1. Bumgarner 2. Ryu 3. Keuchel 4. Teherán 5. Miley 6. Hill 7. Wood 8. Kim 9. Bailey 10. B. Anderson 11. Gio 12. Nova 13. Smyly 14. Cashner 15. McHugh 16. M. Pérez 17. King Félix 18. Cahill 19. Chacín 20. Harvey This is what is left out there
