Sox acquire Nomar Mazara for Steele Walker

I agree with you. Mazara as a DH/RF/Platoon against RHP is not bad by any means. Rendon is the best possible remaining move the Sox could make. I'm fine with lesser starting pitching options for the short term. I'm not getting my hopes up, but if this entire rebuild did not involve us trying for elite talent, what was the point? Clock is ticking on Giolito and Moncada.

If Bauer puts up a 4.0+ WAR 2020, expect him to be paid big time, agreed. -

My point is that the Sox are likely balking at asking prices for Ozuna/Castellanos. Betts/Springer's asking prices on the open market will be through the roof. Grandal was a nice move, but we need way more if we are going to contend for the world series in 2021 as was the projection all along. -

Another poster said it earlier, and it's resonating with me: "This rebuild will go as far as Giolito/Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Dunning takes us" Sure we will make additions, but those are the players we need to be excellent to have a shot. -

If the Sox are passing on Castellanos/Ozuna's pricetag, they sure as hell will not be in on guys like Betts/Springer next offseason. -

Anderson won the AL batting crown, you really cannot compare him with Mazara -

I had to remind myself this morning that the winter meetings are not the entire offseason and to breathe. Adding Mazara is not a bad move in and of itself, heck we might be able to squeeze some production out of him in a platoon/bench role? This rebuild badly needs a major roll of the dice though. Mazara should not stand in the way of making impovements by any means. -

I have calmed down a bit after being pretty disappointed last night about the Mazara trade. We essentially gave up nothing in Walker, who turns 24 in 2020 and has yet to play above high-A ball, for a look at Mazara who still is seen to have considerable potential. It's not a sexy trade, but I will acknowledge there is upside if the Sox can figure out how to get Mazara to the next level. Realistically this should be a platoon situation where he only faces RHP. Hope more moves for impact talent are coming. -
Agreed. The fact we are even reportedly interested in Mazara is disappointing. dickerson or Puig would be better by far

I wouldn’t give Price 3/76 right now if he were a free agent. No way.
-
No chance any team takes on 3/96 entirely, even with Benintendi tossed in. Red Sox would have to include $20 million I’m thinking.

Might be a one year prove it deal. Gregorius is young enough to bet on himself still like Grandal.

Cole to the Yankees: 9 years, $324 million.

Bingo. Players like Rendon you have to draft/develop or pay for in free agency. The trade cost is typically exorbitant. Rendon costs only money, which we should have plenty of -

Sign Rendon, work a trade for a quality starting pitcher this offseason, sign an inexpensive backend starter for 2020. Herrera/Colome/McCann come off the books after 2020 offering some flexibility, Rodon/Kopech/Dunning/Lambert/Flores/Stiever/somebody else should be able to hold down a rotation spot? -

If you were Rendon, would you sign anywhere that did not make you the unquestioned 3b? Hell no. -

We are in total agreement. If the Sox coveted Machado a year ago, why would they not be interested in Rendon, an arguably better player and leader? I'm not thrilled with what might be available in next offseason's free agency at this stage, short of Betts possibly. Rendon is available for the taking now, what player could we add that would help us contend more the next 5-7 years? If the Sox were going to be cavalier and take a risk, it would be a stealthy Rendon pursuit. -

Been pounding the table that the Sox should dive in on Rendon all offseason. Legit top ten player in the game, should age well and can guide us to the promised land in the middle of our batting order. Being realistic, we aren't sniffing Cole or Rendon -

Boras does not work for them, he works for his clients though -

Sox are not in on Cole, mark my words. This is the Chicago White Sox we are talking about -
For two years of Bryant totalling roughly $50 million? We would be getting absolutely hosed on that trade, punting tons of future value. That trade package could get you an extremely good player under long term control

Negotiations for Cole/Rendon reportedly are deep. Deals could potentially come together quickly at this point.

Boyd? Thor? Gray? It is not easy to find fits at a glance who are available
