  1. LOTS of smoke about the Sox making moves going on right now Watch out guys
  2. Wild no from the White Sox Why wouldn't we just sign Rendon for only money instead of forking over our entire farm system and paying Arenado?
  3. Sale was even more valuable than Snell in my opinion. Had not dealt with some of the injuries, back to back 200+ IP seasons and much higher WAR for Sale Sale was the most valuable starting pitcher traded in ages and on a cheap contract
  4. No team is taking on Price for 3/96, end of story. Red Sox would have to eat some money in order to move him.
  5. I do not mind rolling the dice on Mazara considering how pricey top FA options are right now
  6. I've calmed since being livid last night over the Mazara deal. I am in total agreement bmags. I love the Sox and really want this rebuild to head to the next level. The Machado pursuit was an unmitigated disaster, and we got snubbed by Wheeler. Grandal is a great piece, but if we are not going to be competitive for elite free agents why are we bothering to do this? I wanted contention for a 4-5 year window, not maybe an 80-85 win season in 2021/2022. The Sox can afford Rendon. Make it happen.
  7. Several people have called me an idiot on twitter because I am pounding the table for Rendon, but why fault for wanting elite players on the south side? Mazara is essentially a one year tryout who we can non-tender if he does not pan out. Trading for him should not preclude the Sox from signing impact talent at any position.
  8. I agree with you. Mazara as a DH/RF/Platoon against RHP is not bad by any means. Rendon is the best possible remaining move the Sox could make. I'm fine with lesser starting pitching options for the short term. I'm not getting my hopes up, but if this entire rebuild did not involve us trying for elite talent, what was the point? Clock is ticking on Giolito and Moncada.
  9. If Bauer puts up a 4.0+ WAR 2020, expect him to be paid big time, agreed.
  10. My point is that the Sox are likely balking at asking prices for Ozuna/Castellanos. Betts/Springer's asking prices on the open market will be through the roof. Grandal was a nice move, but we need way more if we are going to contend for the world series in 2021 as was the projection all along.
  11. Another poster said it earlier, and it's resonating with me: "This rebuild will go as far as Giolito/Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Dunning takes us" Sure we will make additions, but those are the players we need to be excellent to have a shot.
  12. If the Sox are passing on Castellanos/Ozuna's pricetag, they sure as hell will not be in on guys like Betts/Springer next offseason.
  13. Anderson won the AL batting crown, you really cannot compare him with Mazara
  14. I had to remind myself this morning that the winter meetings are not the entire offseason and to breathe. Adding Mazara is not a bad move in and of itself, heck we might be able to squeeze some production out of him in a platoon/bench role? This rebuild badly needs a major roll of the dice though. Mazara should not stand in the way of making impovements by any means.
  15. I have calmed down a bit after being pretty disappointed last night about the Mazara trade. We essentially gave up nothing in Walker, who turns 24 in 2020 and has yet to play above high-A ball, for a look at Mazara who still is seen to have considerable potential. It's not a sexy trade, but I will acknowledge there is upside if the Sox can figure out how to get Mazara to the next level. Realistically this should be a platoon situation where he only faces RHP. Hope more moves for impact talent are coming.
  16. Agreed. The fact we are even reportedly interested in Mazara is disappointing. dickerson or Puig would be better by far
  17. I wouldn’t give Price 3/76 right now if he were a free agent. No way.
  18. No chance any team takes on 3/96 entirely, even with Benintendi tossed in. Red Sox would have to include $20 million I’m thinking.
  19. Might be a one year prove it deal. Gregorius is young enough to bet on himself still like Grandal.
  20. Bingo. Players like Rendon you have to draft/develop or pay for in free agency. The trade cost is typically exorbitant. Rendon costs only money, which we should have plenty of
  21. Sign Rendon, work a trade for a quality starting pitcher this offseason, sign an inexpensive backend starter for 2020. Herrera/Colome/McCann come off the books after 2020 offering some flexibility, Rodon/Kopech/Dunning/Lambert/Flores/Stiever/somebody else should be able to hold down a rotation spot?
  22. If you were Rendon, would you sign anywhere that did not make you the unquestioned 3b? Hell no.
  23. We are in total agreement. If the Sox coveted Machado a year ago, why would they not be interested in Rendon, an arguably better player and leader? I'm not thrilled with what might be available in next offseason's free agency at this stage, short of Betts possibly. Rendon is available for the taking now, what player could we add that would help us contend more the next 5-7 years? If the Sox were going to be cavalier and take a risk, it would be a stealthy Rendon pursuit.
