  1. Stanton is owed a gigantic sum of money that the Sox should want no part of
  2. When the money is similar the player and his family have to consider secondary reasons for signing. In Wheeler's case we simply could not overcome geography.
  3. There are tons of backend starters available in free agency, there is no rush. Asking prices are all high now, and will come down as we get further into the winter. Patience, the Sox appear to be stealthily hunting.
  4. Lyles is just a guy. There are 10+ free agents out there just like him.
  5. Making a 50/50 prediction and guessing correctly does not mean anything. Any Tom, Dick or Harry would not be going out on a limb and saying "Sources say Cole to the Angels/Yankees for nine years $330 million, talks are fluid" That does not make you an insider.
  6. Soxtalk is great, but White Sox twitter can be something else sometimes. I encourage everyone here to participate in both @stevenpo1989
  7. Price isn’t worthless, he’s just way overpaid the next three years
  8. And when the Sox go 7-9 in those early games and blow a valuable season of contractual control will it be worth it? gain the control.
  9. Boston would have to eat quite a bit of cash for this to make sense, because no way in hell would a club take on Price for 3/96 million, even with Benintendi. prospect cost would be essentially nothing, even if the Red Sox kicked in $20 million and Benintendi from a value standpoint. Price wouldn’t get anywhere near 3/76 in free agency right now still.
  10. The Moustakas four year, $64 million deal has Castellanos and Ozuna’s camps seeing dollar signs. Both are asking for five year deals around $100 million. pass on both at that cost
  11. Asking prices for Ozuna and Castellanos are currently outrageous. You aren’t hearing much about their markets for a reason.
  12. Sox were never interested in MBum
  13. If only there was a World Series experienced 29 year old top ten player in MLB available for only money?
  14. It’s doom and gloom On here until we make a big move, which leads to mostly “LETS F*CKING GOOOOOOO!”
  15. Marquez is unlikely to be available, Gray might be, but only two seasons of control left. Unknown price tag.
  16. I wouldn’t feel great about giving Ray anywhere near 135-150 million long term. He’s a solid #4 on a good team. 3/60 if I had to guess?
  17. $135-150 million for Betts? He’s going to get WAY more than that in free agency.
  18. They trotted our guys like Covey because they were rebuilding. As they switch towards contention they will look to add quality pieces, but at the same time be mindful of future payroll obligations and flexibility. overpaying for a starter is just not good business unless it’s the final piece you need to contend. Ryu/MBum/Keuchel are not players I would want to touch for 4-5 years, hence explore trade markets and monitor if their seminars come down.
  19. I’d pass On Happ, especially at $17 million plenty if cheaper alternatives available, many with more upside
  20. Forget about past performance, think about the multi year contracts you would be locked into aging players for.
  21. Myers is a sunk cost for the Padres, they are stuck with him and his terrible deal.
  22. And the Pirates got robbed in that trade. Madrigal/Vaughn plus Cease gets you pretty close in terms of value for Snell. Maybe TB gets a lower level flyer to round it out? not saying I would do it, but that’s a potential framework
  23. Would Sox fans give Keuchel a four year deal as I’ve heard the current ask is? I certainly would not. I don’t even love a three year deal with him. He’s a #4/5 moving forward on a good team.
