I don't think Rendon gets more AAV than Trout's $37.16 million starting next season. I do think Rendon gets mid $30's AAV on a 6-7 year deal. He rejected 7/210 from the Nats, so you know he's not singing for less than that.

Enjoy this highlight reel of Guerrero throwing gas Dude easily reaches back and throws 100-103. Control sucks, but still really impressive.
-
Springer is still going to be extremely expensive next offseason and will be older than Rendon is, 31 vs 29 If the Sox were willing to offer huge money to Machado, why would they not at least consider going huge for Rendon, an arguably better player?
-
We all can dare to dream, but the Sox inking Rendon would be the biggest signing in franchise history. There is no way that it could not be seen as a bold and incredible move for the club.

Guerrero throws hard, but walks way too many batters to be effective

FS: Sox should inquire about NPB slugger Tsutsugo
steveno89 replied to Rankin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm arguably more curious about Shogo Akiyama https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=589 Akiyama is intriguing because he plays plus defense. He could play CF or RF and has upside despite his age. I like the well rounded profile more than the power profile of Tsutsugo. -
I'm all on board with heavy pursuit of Rendon, no other free agent the next two years, outside of Betts, could help our contention chances more.

Sox have checked in on Pineda, but he signs with Twins
steveno89 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Twins absolutely should go all in to win in 2020 because the White Sox will only be much stronger by 2021 onward. Sox are rising at a time the well coincides with the Royals, Tigers and especially Indians' decline. -
Quality starting pitching is too expensive for the Sox to be trading for at this stage. It would be a different story if we were one quality starter away from being able to make a deep playoff run, but we just are not there yet. We have created this financial flexibility and should leverage it to improve the roster in any way possible. Teams will certainly ask for our top young assets like Madrigal, Cease, Kopech, and Vaughn, which we should not be trading.

Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.
steveno89 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox absolutely need to start Kopech in AAA to allow him to work his way back up to starting, and to gain the season of control they lost due to injury back. No chance they let Kopech walk in four seasons, get that fifth year of control back. -
Sox have checked in on Pineda, but he signs with Twins
steveno89 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That was my expect sentiment when I saw the deal on twitter. Surprised Pineda could not get a larger commitment elsewhere given how pricy pitching has become. He's not a world beater, but is a solid #3/4 guy. -

Aren't the Sox more likely to be ready in 2021 than 2020?
steveno89 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
2021 is more realistic for contention, agreed. This offseason is key for the Sox to transition towards winning though, as we cannot leave all the acquisitions to help the club until next offseason. -
Unknown really.

I think the Sox front office is smart enough to realize MBum is not a fit or our answer I do not mind driving his pricetag up for other clubs though
-
Take this with a huge grain of salt...
-
Beyond wishful thinking, I realize. But can you imagine the utter jubilation for the Sox fanbase if we signed Rendon? It would put the Sox on the map in a major way, and announce to the MLB here we come. It could be our roll of the dice to try and win a WS
-
I realize the Sox will not actually get Rendon, but you find a way to get a perennial MVP candidate into your lineup. Next season's FA class outside of Betts, Springer, Simmons, Semien, Realmuto, Bauer, Ray the pickings are pretty slim
-
It does fill a hole though. It adds a legitimate veteran superstar to the organization who is in his prime right as we are looking to contend. You cannot trade for a player like Rendon, you either have to develop them or blow your wad in free agency. This is the time for the Sox to sack up and pay a star after missing badly on Machado. Move Moncada to RF, Madrigal goes to 2B, Robert in CF and enjoy the fireworks. It would easily be one of the strongest White Sox lineups ever.
-
I keep Madrigal at 2B because he's a better defender there than Moncada, and he's young/cheap, which allows for money to be spent elsewhere. If you deal Madrigal under your suggestion, that opens up a hole we need to fill in RF right away. I'd rather keep the inexpensive young player at this stage. This lineup has a ton of potential: 3B Rendon SS Anderson 2B Madrigal 1B Abreu LF Jimenez CF Robert RF Moncada C Grandal DH ?
-
I think it has to due with how terrible last offseason was. The pressure is certainly turned up for the Sox to improve the team, because it cannot all happen in the 2021 offseason. We need 3-4 multi year quality pieces to build with, and Grandal checks one box there.
-
I like Moncada too, but Rendon could change the outlook of the entire rebuild for the Sox. 3B Rendon SS Anderson 2B Madrigal 1B Abreu LF Jimenez CF Robert RF Moncada C Grandal DH ? That lineup absolutely has the potential to make noise in the American League. Mix in some pitching and we absolutely can win the central, if not truly contend. I get this will not actually happen, but this is exactly the roll of the dice that could pay off with a trip to the ALCS or beyond.
-
Could Tsutsugo potentially be a low cost answer to DH and platoon RF? Could kill two birds with one stone. I really think we need to acquire a real DH and RF option. Even adding an Edwin Encarnacion would be a huge upgrade over the crap at DH we have trotted out there.
-
Darvish does have a full no trade clause, which should be noted
-
If the Sox were heavy on Machado, why would they not be interested in Rendon, who is arguably much better? I'd offer 7/225 all day to Rendon. There is no player that would help our club more in this free agency, or next more than him, or potentially Betts. Eventually this team has to sack up and start acting like a big boy, the time is now. Overpay if you have to, because Rendon is a safe bet to rake for the next 5 years.
