We can't really worry about that right now. There is a ton of time between now and the 2019 draft to evaluate potential players. Hopefully we finish this tank job off the right way and have a top pick, but we will be selecting high regardless.

3B I would imagine, but apparently he has played OF, 3B and 1B
-
Matt Powers, who covers the Braves organization, said on twitter he ranked Bush the 11th best 3B in the draft. He said huge get for the White Sox at that point in signing him. Big power potential.
-
I'd expect him to be an AFL candidate, along with Hansen, potentially Dunning.
-
Soria could get us a decent prospect in retrn at the deadline. He's as good as gone I would imagine.

Morosi Speculation: Sox potential landing spot for DeGrom, Syndergaard
steveno89 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Clickbait, nothing more. One of Jimenez/Kopech/Robert would have to be included, which for me would be a hard pass at this stage of the rebuild. -
Just for fun - what's your post-draft Top 30?

What is going on with AJ Puckett? Have not heard anything about him -

Cordell is 26 years old...it is pretty much now or never for him -
It's not a terrible trade suggestion, especially if the Sox do not have top kick in any of Abreu's salary, but I think they would be looking for a bit more upside if they are dealing him. Helsley might continue to develop into a backend starter, and Martinez is serviceable, but this wouldn't excite me much.

Bowden at the Athletic proposes Jose Abreu to the Cardinals in exchange for Jose Martinez and Ryan Helsley. An interesting trade offer. Thoughts?

How eventful will be this years deadline?

Sox might have to eat some salary in order to move Soria and net a decent return, something that they are not known for. Might be able to get a B-/C+ prospect plus a low level guy in return? -
Have tickets for the game. Not sure if they are going to play or not

If I'm the Astros, Tucker, Whitley and even Alvarez are off the table at this point in trades.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
steveno89 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Very true^ I have wondered if getting rid of the division structure and having 6 teams from the AL and 6 from the NL make the playoffs each season would be better for the game in the long run. So many teams are already out of the race two months into the season that I'm not sure about long term fan interest. Tanking should not be encouraged, but the current MLB is set up that way. -

After the Orioles sell off, it will be tough to imagine any other team losing more games down the stretch. We should finish with another bottom five pick though. -
At his point I think it is pretty unlikely that Abreu gets traded unless we receive an above market offer. The team does need veteran leadership moving forward and I think he is worth more to our organization than what other clubs would be willing to offer in a trade.

2018 White Sox draft picks and signings thread
steveno89 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm sure Walker will sign once Pilkington and Madrigal sign as well. That way each can slot in between one another. This seems to be a solid draft for the White Sox. Mostly college, but a few interesting high school players mixed in as well. -
Dunning has medium elbow strain, out 6-8 weeks
steveno89 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Really hoping that Dunning is ok. This is why you stockpile as much pitching as possible -
Considering he is coming off of injury, his play in the minors has been solid so far.
-
Martes has really fallen off in 2017 and 2018, to the point where he cannot be considered a center piece of any potential trade. He's still young and can bounce back, but the results have been rough so far.
-
The Rutherford vs. Adolfo is an interesting debate. Dunning is showing why he is a rock solid prospect this season, not missing a beat after the promotion to AA. He's the safest bet in our system to be a quality mid rotation starter. Cease has performed well so far. If he keeps this up against AA competition I'd expect him to be firmly in the top 50. Hansen needs to prove he is healthy.

I would not expect a "haul" in return for Abreu, especially from a team like the Astros.

Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
steveno89 replied to Dam8610's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I will agree with that. He has not proven himself from a health standpoint, making him a 2020 question mark for me. -
If he's walking AAA hitters at this rate right now, more patient MLB hitters would eat him alive. He should be down in AAA all year to work on command/control. No reason to rush a player that clearly is not ready for the show yet. The argument could be made that Dunning could be pushed to AAA later this season, as he is pretty clearly our most advanced pitching prospect in the system.

We absolutely do not have too much starting pitching. Out of all of these guys, who has actually proven anything at the mlb level? None of them in my opinion so far. Injuries, poor performance, prospects busting, etc. are all a huge factor moving forward. None of our guys would I be comfortable penciling in for the 2020 rotation as of right now until they prove more. Is Covey for real? Remains to be seen. Can Lopez continue to develop? Is Giolito a bust? Can Kopech cut down on the walks? Etc. Ideally we should be able to come up with most of a starting rotation internally, but I still would like us to sign a quality proven veteran at the right time to lead a young staff.
