  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) Wouldn't it be crazy if the Yankees grabbed him? Just a one year rental, but still. Gardner Judge Stanton Machado Bird Sanchez Gregorius Hicks Torres Yikes that lineup is terrifying
  2. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 04:58 PM) There is such a wide disparity about expectations for Avi, going forward. Wouldn't it be interesting to conduct a poll, in which everyone could offer their own projections, regarding what kind of year they expect Avi to have? Irrespective of whether, or not, he's traded, I'd just love to see how close some of us might end up being. Maybe more interesting; how far off some of us might be. While nobody expects Avi to put up a repeat of 2017, you do not end up batting .330 over an entire season strictly by luck. Sure that average is inflated a bit, but he still showed improvement at the plate. Avi absolutely murdered lefties batting .424 against them, albeit with over a .500 BABIP. It's not absurd to think he could be a .290+ hitter with 15-20 home runs next season, which is still a solid player
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) I think Leury Garcia will get a nice bulk of time in CF (to start the year anyway). I don't really want a position player unless they deal Garcia in the next like 18 hours. Nestor Cortes just seems like one of those guys who can end up producing if given an opportunity. He's not that big, his stuff is not great, but it's hard to ignore how well he has produced.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) I like Ramos alot. Ramos + Anderson + Williams? Sox would have to really like Ramos to make that deal though
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Machado makes no sense- that's pure wishcasting to believe that 1 year of his services would substantively help the Sox. Yelich makes some sense (although one might wonder why trade Eaton then) - could possibly turn Abreu/Avi into Yelich with a 3 or 4-way deal. And the other thing is that Machado did have a lousy year last year; certainly would like to see a substantive rebound from that before going all in. I agree with that. Another season like 2017 and I think teams might pump the brakes a bit on giving him a mega contract. His age will ensure he gets paid, but another (2.8 - 3.5 WAR) season might end up costing him as teams weigh whether that is worth $30+ million per year. If Machado puts up a big year expect his price to skyrocket.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) I have a feeling a team isn't going to need to overpay for Garcia or anything. Perhaps, but I would not just trade Avi for the sake of trading him. If he is having a good season he could be dealt at the deadline?
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) The astros on the other hand had the benefit at the time of a much more exploitable latin american signing period and comp draft pick structure. The marlins will not be able to add the sheer number of players the astros did as easily. Very true, with the new international free agency rules in place it makes it much harder for a rebuilding club to scoop up tons of young talent. With the Nationals being strong, Braves on the rise, Phillies already into their rebuild, the Marlins face a tough road ahead. I like the White Sox outlook much more.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Giants lost out on Ozuna, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for Avi now. Not much in the SF farm that the Sox would want though. Arroyo? Ramos? Beyond them their system is scary thin on talent. Jordan Gonzalez?
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) It would certainly appear to be that way. To be fair, prior to this year, Ozuna had been as streaky as they come, so I'm sure that plays a part in this as well. This rebuild was absolutely calculated and virtually everything taken into consideration. Different situations for sure, but I feel so bad for anyone that calls themselves a Marlins fan right now. From Fernandez' death, to completely gutting the team for what I consider to be a mediocre return (for now), the Marlins have become an embarrassment.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) The White Sox had to deal Quintana too. That one worked out OK. White Sox seem to be better negotiators than the Marlins
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) You know this how? He kinda just has to shutup and play honestly. I don't remember him being outspoken towards the Marlins like Stanton has like every year the past few years. Yelich is not going to want to stick around during a rebuild. Having an unhappy player in the clubhouse would not be a good thing at all. Joel Sherman‏Verified account @Joelsherman1 9m9 minutes ago More Alcantara is big piece going to #Marlins in 4-player package, hear other 3 are minor leaguers of less ilk #Stlcards Wow, if Alcantara is the best piece heading to the Marlins I am calling right now about Yelich^
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) I'm gathering that Avisail has no market. Perhaps Avi could have a market when the Marlins talent feeding frenzy ends. Yelich is as good as gone after the Ozuna deal.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Yelich should bring back a few legit prospects so I don't see the fit here. 25, 5 years left of control and more pop in his bat than Eaton. Like I said above, it takes more than that deal. In theory, yes it should. Remember we are dealing with a fire sale Marlins organization right now and Yelich will be requesting a trade. They essentially have to trade him or they will have a very upset player on their hands. The Sox did not have to deal Eaton unless the return was great, I can't say the same for the Marlins and Yelich now as they have lost leverage.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) I can't think of a scenario that would work, and still be realistic. Agreed. Short of the Angels calling us and offering Mike Trout, Kopech and Hansen are not getting traded with each knocking on the major league door within the next 12 months. I like Yelich as a player, but if the Marlins insisted on an untouchable being including I would have to say no. The rebuild is progressing and I do not want to blow it up prematurely.
  15. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Jon Heyman LINK now alcantara goes to malrins in ozuna deal I'll guess Jack Flaherty + Sandy Alcantara + Piscotty or Grichuk for Ozuna
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) I don't think you could snag Yelich without trading Kopech or Hansen I can't see Hahn moving Kopech or Hansen given the extreme cost of quality free agent starting pitching. If Miami would entertain a package of our second tier prospects (Lopez, Cease, Rutherford, Burger, Dunning, Adams, Fulmer) then I think we would be interested. Moncada/Giolito/Jimenez/Robert/Kopech/Hansen should be considered core untouchables in my opinion (short of trading for a superstar).
  17. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Swarzak to Mets. 2 years 14 mil Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman 6m6 minutes ago More Rockies are closing in on deal to bring Greg Holland back Rockies really opening up the checkbook on bullpen arms. Holland, McGee and Shaw
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) Or you are getting good value before Cease loses any chance to be considered a starter and Rutherford loses trade value if he continues his hitting struggles. Also don't know how Marlins feel about Blake as they have some former Yanks executives over there now Given how expensive relief pitching is, 6+ seasons of control on a guy with two plus pitches and a good arm is still very valuable in the pen^
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) Or you are getting good value before Cease loses any chance to be considered a starter and Rutherford loses trade value if he continues his hitting struggles. Also don't know how Marlins feel about Blake as they have some former Yanks executives over there now I don't think the Sox organization would feel comfortable dealing away that much potential without giving it more time. Hansen very well has put himself into the conversation for being a top 50 overall prospect, Cease had a quality 2017 overall and could really shoot up rankings with a quality 2018. Rutherford could go either way, but the upside still exists that I would not deal him as a third piece in a deal. Even IF we magically acquired Machado and Yelich the White Sox would still not be a 2018 contender with our pitching staff. I would let prospects develop further and evaluate a potential deal like this next offseason.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Been thinking that if you really want to dream big about possible title contender in a few years, you could trade for Yelich now and then go after Machado next offseason. I wouldn't hesitate to see a package like Hansen, Cease and Rutherford for Yelich. Just to dream big, your 2019 lineup could be: - Yelich - Moncada - Machado - Abreu - Jimenez - Garcia - Castillo - Delmonico - Anderson I like the aggressiveness, but it's too soon for the Sox to blow up the rebuild like that^ I agree with Hahn that we will have a much better idea how good our prospects are in nine months and can better assess organizational needs. That could be a package we really regret parting with if Hansen continues do build on a strong 2017, Cease improves his command of his already strong stuff and if Rutherford bounces back to show the tools scouts really liked making him a first round draft pick.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...1212-story.html I'd be interested in a one year deal with a player like Chris Tillman depending on the price. He was terrible in 2017, but is only a year removed from being a solid starter.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) The first offer is way too much IMO. If you’re willing to give up that much, might as well go after Yelich even if the cost is a little more. Agreed^ Some of these packages are way too much for a player with one year of control remaining, even in light of a possible extension. Players like Dunning and Cease have very real trade value, and guys like Fulmer/Anderson/Sheets should not be seen as players we can easily cast away.
  23. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) Rumors that Travis Demeritte might go #1 to Detroit Sox should look at Demeritte as he can potentially play several positions including 3B, SS and 2B. The power is there if he can make offensive adjustments.
  24. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Even with extension, highest I would go would be... Anderson, Fulmer, Cease and Sheets. Based on Stanton's return I'd probably end up actually offering Avi, Fulmer, Dunning if we could convince Machado to man third. He's coming with a massive literal price tag. Even that seems like backing up the truck^ We finally have started to build a solid farm system and we would turn around to gut that so quickly? I just do not see something like this happening
  25. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) Machado himself is unprecedented, you could sign him 10yr/320m and he would be 36 at the end of the deal. Pay him more the first few seasons when we have no payroll and offer him an opt out after 6 years. If the price is something like Anderson/Lopez/Fulmer/Dunning and you can get him to sign, you do it. I would absolutely not do that^ Why surrender 4 young players to sign a guy you can go after in free agency anyway next year?
