Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
steveno89 replied to Superstar Lamar's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 06:52 AM) Have to believe it's someone on their 40 man roster given it's a PTBNL. Kemp still makes a lot of sense IMO. Do really really need another 25 year old AAAA outfielder to throw in the mix in Kemp? We currently have a ton of those guys in Garcia, Engel, Liriano, Tilsen, Polo, Cordell, Delmonico, Polo, etc. -
Sox acquire Ryan Burr for int'l pool $$$

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) 2.42 FIP, 2.82 xFIP, 10.44 K/9, 2.16 BB/9 in A+ Might be a guy who gets a look in our 2018 bullpen. Can't complain about dealing international pool money that we are not going to use. -
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Right now, as a White Sox fan, the only concerns I have are with regards to the talent the White Sox draft. It's kind of nitpicky, but I would be a bit more comfortable if I knew any of the White Sox positional draft picks would pan out. Our farm system is so stacked it probably doesn't matter a lot and I haven't lost faith in Tim Anderson, but that's my only concern. The draft and farm are vital aspects to the rebuild, but also cleaning up our books to have financial flexibility moving forward will be very important as we look to build a championship caliber roster. I fully expect us to be active in free agency after 2018 to start plugging holes

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) Not to mention they basically gave us the $35M. Moncada is cheap when he's really an expensive asset. I'm realistic about the fact we're better off losing, but if we win, it's best the young guys contribute with it. A small part of the is also getting Sale's contract off the books. He's a great bargain still, but dealing him saved the Sox roughly $39.5 million We have cleared tons of money off of our books, and even more will be freed after Shields' deal expires after 2018. We are in a great position financially.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 08:40 AM) This is hilarious. Moncada hits a game tying HR, then the game winning single and people are stil whining about Sale. Seriously, you've had 9 months to accept he's gone, get over it already. Anyway. I am f***ing thrilled with the trades and the Sox sweep over the Astros. Some younger guys are stepping up and contributing to these wins, as a fan, this is exactly the way I'd like to them win. I'm surprised the board is not talking about Moncada as well. He is essentially the key piece to our rebuilding effort and he just had a superstar performance last night. Even though wins do not matter moving forward in 2017, this game felt oddly significant and a glimpse into what our very bright future holds. Moncada has all the potential to become a star player for the White Sox.

QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Zack Collins August so far (I know small sample size, but still encouraging with the K #s) 7 Games 32 PAs 24 ABs 4 Ks (12.5%) 8 BBs (25.0%) 7 H 3 2Bs 1 HR 4 RBI 9 R .292 Avg .469 On Base .542 Slug 1.010 OPS 3/6 CS (50%) 2 PO 1 E 1 PB Quality post^ I really hope that Collins can finish off these last few weeks strong. Zavala has really performed well this year and deserves to be in our top 30 prospects for sure. I certainly view him as being a better prospect than Skoug. There can't be many catchers in the minors putting up the numbers he has this season (19 home runs, .878 OPS). If his defense is passable he could be a backup option at a minimum for us moving forward?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Agree completely with this. He just needs to rebound and I think he can. He can come out of the pen worst case scenario. I feel like due to his struggles and the load of new prospects, he's forgotten about. Sox rushed him and he clearly wasn't ready last season. I do think he can be nasty out of the pen and I envision him a late inning guy maybe setting up Burdi in a couple years. I agree Fulmer was rushed, but I also feel that other pitching prospects in the system have overtaken him and are more likely to pan out as starting pitchers at this point (Giolito, Lopez, Hansen, Dunning, Adams, Guerrero, Stephens).

QUOTE (GermanSock @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 05:33 AM) He could of course develope power and many hs players take longer to get to their power and he is only in his second year. Trout also only hit 10 hr his second year. The reason for concern is more that Rutherford was old for a hs draftee so people expected the power to come quicker as most power growth tends to come from 18-20. However part of his lack of power is swing plane/launch angle so maybe there might be some free power there when developing his swing and decreasing his grounder rate. Next season in A+ ball will go a long way towards helping us understand what we have in Rutherford. Either he will take a step forward and assert himself, showing off developing power and plus hit tool, or he will take a step back and fall out of the top 100 prospects.

QUOTE (Real @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 05:02 AM) I find it interesting that many here were so quick to jettison Sale for Kopech and Moncada. I often hear about the shredding of a jersey and how Sale's attitude was unprofessional and not liked by coaches/mgmt. Kopech's attacking of a teammate resulting in a broken hand injury, as well as a 50 game suspension 2 years ago so quickly gets shoveled under the rug and forgotten, lol. Kopech's fight with teammate and injury were deemed to be a pretty isolated incident, and I have not heard anything negative about his makeup since. He has come a long way since then.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Ryan McGuffey @RyanMcGuffey 45m45 minutes ago #WhiteSox director of player development, Chris Getz said to @CarmenDeFalco that Eloy Jimenez will "probably get a taste of AA very soon" No harm in that, he'll be starting in AA for 2018 regardless. I wouldn't mind rewarding him with a promotion soon though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Keuchel still hasn't been right since spending 2 months on the DL, so it's not just regression with him, it's legit "will he even get back to form". Both Fiers and McHugh have had good stretches, but you can't count on your #3 starter turning it on in September by luck. Houston knew the price to acquire a cost controlled starter like Quintana, Gray or even Chris Sale for that matter. They decided to stand pat, hoard prospects and only time will tell if that was a wise decision.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) You guys all missed Ron's joke. I'm disappointed in all of you. When I first read it I did think it might be sarcasm :/ Fell for the bait

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Gotta love Hahn's honesty there. He's right of course. Jose hardly ever sees fastballs middle in anymore it's usually a steady diet of junk low and away. It's sapped a large amount of Jose's power. Jose is still a good player, he's just not the star we hoped he'd be after his rookie season. In fairness Abreu does not have much in terms of lineup protection to help him see better pitches. Why pitch to Jose when the rest of the lineup cannot really hurt you all that much?

QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 06:38 AM) Beating the Astros because of our youth and their s*** starting pitching is oh so satisfying. I really think the Astros are going to regret not making a big move for pitching and choosing to hold onto prospects. They have a legitimate world series roster this year, but I question whether the pitching staff is deep enough to win in the playoffs. Keuchel is good, but his 3.66 FIP suggests regression is coming from his sub 3.00 ERA. McCullers just cannot stay healthy enough to be trusted in the post season Morton has been solid McHugh has been mediocre, same goes for Fiers. Not making a big move for bullpen and starting rotation help will be what costs them, because the offense is deep and solid, especially once Correa comes back

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) Blake is the youngest position player on the Kannapolis roster, and holding his own. He turned 20 in May, so it is way too early to be concerned. This video provides some interesting insight into what kind of person he is: He's young so I'll give him some benefit of the doubt, but at the same time if he is truly an elite prospect he should be doing more than just holding his own. Next season will be telling as he gets bumped up to A+ Winston Salem. We need to see more pop and arguably more from the bat in general.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 09:51 AM) As of the last AB I saw last night, Moncada had been on base 14 times in his last 25 PAs. Moncada is putting up quality at bats and is trending in the right direction. He is also blazing fast on the basepaths. I'd like to see them turn him loose and start racking up stolen bases.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 08:15 AM) He'll be the 5th starter for a team next year, that's for sure. Gonzalez has hugely different home and away splits. At home he has been solid, but awful on the road.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) In this hypothetical world he's needed on a contender, I think he still would not be up for one reason: he was recovering from injury to start the year. Had he started off healthy in high-A, I think he's in AA in June and could have been a Moncada/Benintendi/Devers-esque callup to a contender. But he is only now really heating up due to health. I'm totally fine with keeping Jimenez in A+ ball for the next three weeks before possibly sending him to the AFL. He should be in AA to start 2018 as expected. There is zero need to rush his development, even though he clearly could be promoted to AA. We have no use for him on a rebuilding 2018 roster, and another good season next year will put him on track for a mlb debut sometime in 2019.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) I hope you judge all our players as quickly as you judged Davidson and deemed him incapable of improving on some good performances his rookie season. Like I said on to the next guy. I don't know why we'd waste any more time on Davidson if we know he's a replacement level player. Put somebody else in there to hold the fort for Burger. Will you judge Burger in the same amount of at bats? Burger is 21 years old and in the minors, Davidson is 26 with a track record of not walking or making enough contract. Currently Burger is a significantly better prospect, but the jury is still out on him.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) Coop will fix him.....if he needs fixing Not sure what the point of this signing even is.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) Robert should move fast IMO. He will likely start 2018 in Kannapolis, but I don't see him staying there long. I think 2020 is a realistic ETA for him. The more I dig into Robert, the happier I get. He has massive potential given his tools, and it's exciting to see what he will be able to do with professional coaching and development. I think mlb.com sells him short with a 50 hit tool given what scouts have said about how nice his swing and bat speed are. Sure, he could flame out, but he also could be one of the best overall prospects in baseball by this time next year.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) Robert is a really difficult one to predict. Until we get him to the point where we can see where he is ready and where he is raw, we don't know if he will be here soon, or more of a traditional path. In theory with his international experience he could zoom through especially the lower levels of the minors. It wouldn't shock me at all if he were quickly in AA in 2018. It also wouldn't shock me if he wasn't in Chicago until next decade. There is more unknown with him than literally any other player the White Sox control right now. I agree there are plenty of unknowns with Robert outside of him being in Kannapolis to start 2018. At age 18 Robert put up scary good numbers in the Cuban professional league, so theoretically he should be more advanced than your average international prospect. I don't put much into DSL stats because it's not representative of the competition he will face even in A ball stateside. The talent is there, and I think he will be a very fun player for us to follow.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) I give up. You guys are looking for a certain type of ballplayer and Davidson doesn't fit the bill. I wish we'd just release him now so I don't have to hear what a non prospect he is. Fields hit 23 home runs in 2007, then 10 homers the rest of his career. So that is a perfect comparison if Davidson is done producing at age 26. Davidson will get 2017 and 2018 to show us that he can improve, but I highly doubt he is on our roster in anything more than a bench role by 2019/2020. Good players do not have an on base % of .278 given the amount of playing time he has received. Davidson is what he is, a replacement level player.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Robert is going to be fine. I don't think it's unreasonable to say let's just write off his 2017 and get excited when he joins Kanny next April. Also, CWS is right on with the tax implications of keeping him in the DR. If that's the price to pay than so be it. Right now I see a realistic track for Robert to be: Start 2018 season in A ball, with the possibility of promotion to A+ with good performance. I expect a player with his pedigree to thrive and show us what he's got. Start 2019 should be in A+ ball or possibly AA if everything breaks right for him.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) also A.J Puckett's WS debut Fulmer should be converted to being a reliever sooner rather than later. Barring a massive turnaround I do not see the future rotation having room for him. He should focus on becoming a quality reliever, which is still a very valuable player.
