QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) i'm going to say calhoun, lux and a lotto ticket That would be a pretty large return for a three month rental and giving up very soon on Lux. I'd guess Calhoun plus two lotto tickets. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) I think Pelfrey and Holland are more likely candidates. Hahn said soon, which could easily mean in a week or two for Lopez

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Hope you judge our precious prospects as harshly after 300 or so at bats. I think it would be so cool for Davidson to hit 30 home runs and have people laugh at him like that's nothing. Please hit 30 home runs. His stats tell everything in his first season in the majors. OK, please judge all our prospects the same way. Oh wait, Davidson I guess is old at 26. I can understand only being excited about the prospects, but I stand by what I say if he hits 30 home runs that is a very very nice figure for a first-year player. Obviously i forgot about Judge and some of the other rookies in saying he's rookie of the year if he gets to 30 hrs, but my gosh I can't understand the double standard on here. I guarantee you if Rutherford hits 30 home runs his first year or Robert or any one of our darling prospects people will overlook the bad statgeek categories and only praise the prospect and Hahn. It's all up to Davidson to help me out here, get up to 30 home runs instead of staying stuck at 21 the final eight weeks. Greg, what are call "statgeek categories" are modern baseball metric for player evaluation. At age 26 there is far less projection left in a player than when they are 20 years old, what you see is very much what you get. If he can drastically increase his walk rate, and drastically decrease his strikeout rate then he might be serviceable, but I do not see it happening. What is with the 30 home run obsession? I would rather have a player hit far less home runs, but have an OBP of .350 than Davidson hit 30 with an OBP of .278. Power is important, but not at the expense of every other tool being below average from a player.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Just the fact that he was able to get the returns he did in what has become a buyer's market. True^ I'm a bit surprised that the Astros did not make a bigger splash than they have. They have the best record in the AL, and the farm system to get big deals done.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) All seems quiet..not that we have much left. At this point a White Sox trade would be for the sake of making a trade. Hahn has tapped out all potential resources that we currently have outside of Abreu and Avi.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) The winner of the 2017 Trade Market is Rick Hahn On paper? Yes. Remains to be seen which of these prospects pan out for us.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Injury risk is a major, major factor. Handedness matters too. Gray is to Quintana as Quintana is to Sale. Similar in ways, but ultimately you know which player you'd rather have. Keeping Adams/Torres/Frazier was key for the Yankees. Adams should be ready to slide into a rotation spot soon, if not by next spring training. They can sign Harper after 2018 and be totally set to contend.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Great deal for the Yankees, both in the short term and the long term. Parlaying Kaprelian, who has pitched only 29 innings since he was drafted in 2015, into a significant piece in this deal was a big win by the Yankees. He will turn 24 next spring and be coming off TJS, likely still a full minor league season away from being mlb ready. If not for Mateo's hot last 30 games at AA his stock would have fallen even more than it did. Fowler's injury really raises questions, as who knows how well he will recover from major knee surgery? Yankees gave up only question marks and gained 2 1/2 seasons of control

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Imagine that the headliner yankees were trying for was Rutherford re: white sox. I like Fowler. I like Mateo. I like Kaprellian. It's fine. I'm very glad this is not all we got for Quintana. I'm glad we got another "elite" prospect. I continue to not be impressed with any other deal. I've liked some of the smaller trades, but in general despite not loving rutherford it's not like there's an example of a team getting someone i love that we had a comparable guy to. None of us will love the Rutherford deal unless he starter to show some power next season. He's not been awful at the plate or anything, but he will need more pop to profile as a corner OF. Yankees likely maxed out their Q offer at: Rutherford + Adams + third piece + lotto Braves likely offered: Albies + Gohara/Anderson/Wentz + third piece + lotto Those are not terrible offers, but we all prefer the Cubs return right now.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Beane trying to buy low on injured players. Mateo is a nice centerpiece, though. Yankees system has taken a pretty major hit. I feel the Yankees did very well in this deal. They did not get coaxed into dealing Torres/Frazier/Adams/Sheffield, and surrendered 2 injured prospects and 1 who's stock has been slipping in Mateo. Jimenez is a significantly better prospect than anyone in this deal, and an argument could be made for Cease being a better prospect now as well. A's failed to leverage Gray into a truly elite prospect, so I currently consider this to be a failure on their part.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Also worthwhile on the Otani front. Jeff PassanVerified account @JeffPassan 2m2 minutes ago Source: In addition to Sonny Gray, the Yankees are getting $1.5M in international bonus money. 10 replies 57 retweets 95 likes Considering the Yankees were very much in on Quintana as well, would you have accepted this return for Q? I would not have.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) It's finally over. Fowler, Mateo and Kaprelian to the A's Interesting trade as Fowler and Kaprelian are both dealing with significant injuries.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) I do think their advertising revenue has utterly utterly cratered this year even if ticket sales have gone up, although I'm not sure how much of that is taken up by Comcast. Had the DirecTV Extra Innings preview a week ago, watched a few sox games, couldn't help but notice that there was basically one "paid commercial" per game it seemed. Every commercial break was 3 public service announcements and people aren't getting paid for those. It was like listening to Rush Limbaugh's show, there's no revenue coming in through TV ads right now at all, literally no one is trying to reach White Sox fans through TV, but again that might be being eaten by Comcast. Houston has the best record in the American League and is a legit world series contender, but is only 14th in attendance curiously.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:55 AM) Umm.. is it too late to trade Fulmer for Glasnow straight up? Glasnow has actually shown quite a bit of improvement since getting sent down to AAA, cutting down his BB rate to 3.9 per 9. He was awful at the mlb level, as hitters would sit on his fastball because he couldn't get anything else over the plate.

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Moustakas has a career K-rate of 15%, Matt Davidson is at 39.1% so far this year. They are in no way comparable. Moustakas was always a within reach of being a relatively decent hitter with a slight change to his approach and a little luck. Davidson needs to mash HRs at elite rates just to just to stay relevant offensively. He's one bad 10 game slump away from being irrelevant offensively and he's yet to prove he's capable of providing any value defensively. Just looking at Davidson's stats tell everything. He has only walked 16 times in 86 games and has 124 K's. That is not a good or sustainable mlb ratio for a player who does not make alot of contact. Davidson is similar to a Chris Carter type player, if given a full season he likely will hit 30+ home runs, but with a low average/tons of strikeouts/low on base/poor defense. Guys like that are fine for a rebuild, but should be no more than a bench player on a contender.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Exactly what was/is around that Roosevelt location that would bring people in early and have them stay late? The Target? That is just another White Sox fan excuse. The ChiSox bar and grill has half priced apps after every game. After every game it is empty. Beyond the ChiSox bar there is really not much in the way of hotels, bars, restaurants, etc. around the stadium to attract fans. The stadium itself is not bad per se, but your only choices are really 1) Tailgating 2) ChiSox pub 3) Turtle's bar/cork and kerry South of the stadium is not doing it any favors either.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:19 AM) Filled two pretty big needs for them. Cubs farm system is stripped bare, but if they collect another WS this year, who cares. They are very much in their window of contention right now. They will need to rebuild in about 5 years, but they should go for it while they can.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:23 AM) Davidson has shown improvement defensively. He has turned many difficult plays into outs. Shots down the line or in the hole which he has handled and thrown guys out. That does not show up in WAR or any defensive stat. One would have to watch the games to know that. Davidson leads the team in HR. The Sox do not have any other player in their minor league system that can play third base and jack 25+ home runs. And please do not tell me that Burger can play third base until he has proven that through all levels of the Minors. The videos of him playing defense are a joke. The bottom line is that Davidson is the starting third basemen now and it will remain that way until there is a better alternative. Until then he is doing most of what a corner infielder is supposed to do. He is playing a decent third base, he is durable, and he hits for power. Judgment for Greg on this one. Totally disagree. A .278 on base percentage and a whopping 39% k rate suggest he is far from being a starting caliber corner infielder. His 23% hr to FB ratio is likely to regress as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:33 PM) OMG. You are going to criticize a 26 year old rookie who hits 30 home runs in his first showing in the bigs? I love Moncada, but lets say over the next eight weeks he gets about 8 hits and continues to hit .100. Would u dare criticize him? Don't you see the cliche aspect of what you are saying? All these recent trades and these players we got are beloved. Davidson 'could' hit 30 fricking home runs in his debut season? If he does, my gosh, he deserves rookie of the year. How many rookies hit 30 fricking home runs? Cmon people, does nobody support me on this?? Take away home runs, what else does he do well? Absolutely nothing as of right now, except strike out. I'm fine with Davidson in the lineup for now, but I'll be shocked if he improves enough to earn a starting role by 2019/2020.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) I am definitely more excited about the BB:K ratio than the batting average, it's pretty impressive for a high school kid who didn't play baseball full time. I honestly thought he would be putting up Keon Barnum numbers. I expected him to get eaten alive by rookie ball pitching, it's really encouraging to see him holding his own so far.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:25 PM) Now is fine. Are u going to criticize him if he pops nine more home runs and hits 30 in limited at bats? Yes, due to reasons I stated in an earlier post. He is a replacement level player as of right now.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) Proves my point. Let's say Burger is the identical same player his first season with the Sox. Exact same. You can't tell me you wouldn't be ecstatic with Burger cause of the hype. Burger is 21 years old right now and projects to hit for solid average, play passable defense and have good pop. I expect more from him than we get from Davidson. Hopefully he delivers. Davidson is a 26 year old who is currently a replacement level player. Outside of home runs he is not a very good all around player right now, so yes, I will criticize him. Your evaluation is totally wrong and is not how a front office views talent in the modern MLB.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Former top prospect and 2013 first rounder DJ Peterson DFAd by the Mariners today. With extra 40 man spots, and the Sox with the top waiver spot, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a chance on him. Still has 2 option years. He's probably toast, but still just 25. What's the harm? We just traded for Casey Gillespie, I'd rather give him a shot than pursue Peterson -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 10:06 PM) Some crazy trades tonight with Ramos and Hellickson Cubs to acquire Wilson and Avila for candelario and parades
