QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Does any of this discussion change anyone's expectations for the 2020 starting rotation and bullpen? What is your best guess for the pitching staff, based upon the current talent in the organization? My guess would be Rodon (unless he's traded), Kopeck, Lopez, Hansen and Cease. I don't know what to think of Giolito. Do you guys think that he'll make it? Fulmer, Burdi and the rest of the top guys would battle for bullpen spots. I think players like Adams, Guerrero and Dunning are more likely to stick as starters than Hansen or Cease. Giolito is the sort of player that has the ability, but really just needs everything to click at some point. I would not give up on him becoming a solid starter yet, but we need to see progress at some point.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) I'd really like a good Rodon game. Rodon has not shown much control so far this season. He really needs a solid start to get things back on track. -
Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) I dont know if he goes anywhere but I do know he has done a damn good job at increasing his trade value. Cheers to Anthony on that. 99.9% chance Swarzak gets traded 1) His contract amounts to peanuts relative to the mlb 2) He has performed very well this year and is #7 overall in reliever WAR in the mlb 3) He would help any contender's bullpen and should come at a reasonable cost prospect wise -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:47 AM) I do think Swarzak gets traded alone too, but I disagree with your second part. I think you can package Gonzalez if you wanted to because he has pitched well recently and on a fairly cheap deal, while Melky still has over 5 million left on his deal. Converting players like Swarzak into prospect(s) is going to be key to the rebuild. I'd look to land a young middle infield prospect with upside. -
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) my take away was this link not that it matters per se but it'll be an interesting debate through the next three years as too how the Sox, Braves etc stack up as "best farm". I still find it funny that Hansen who was once a consideration for #1 overall isn't getting any love by pipeline esp when you consider how he has performed compared to the rest of the top arms from the '16 draft class, It'll come in time but whatever. As for Collins I understand why he isn't on the top 100, I highly doubt he starts the year at A+ and maybe next year the challenge faced at AA will force him to change his approach as pitchers there don't nibble as much as A+ and he won't be able to parlay his discipline with out focusing on contact in deeper counts. They have raised their grade on Hansen from a "45" FV to a "50" FV, which I feel is fair at this point. A college arm with his stuff should dominate low A ball hitters, but he needs to prove it against significantly better competition at A+ and AA ball before you will see him on top 100 lists regularly. The potential is certainly there.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:19 PM) I have a feeling Hansen and Collins just missed the Top 100 To make the top 100 you must be a 55 overall grade or better prospect. They clearly see Hansen and Collins outside the top 100, but I'd say either could very well be back in the top 100 next season.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:48 PM) MLBpipeline What did burger do to justify going from a 55 to 50 overall grade since getting drafted? .980 OPS not good enough? The rest of the grades I agree with, is have burger above Fulmer though.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 06:17 PM) For Swarzak, I'd target low A ball players like SS Yasel Antuna and SS Jose Sanchez Freudis Nova from the astros system would be a great pick up -

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) What would the Nats have to give up to get Swarzak and Avi? Would Kieboom, Mckenzie Mills, and Daniel Johnson do it? Or is that too light? Nationals aren't going to trade for Avi after taking for Eaton despite the injury. I'd absolutely start my ask higher than that though. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Hell, MiGo could make sense for the cubs. Hmm, MiGo would make sense for many contenders. Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes Following More Two scouts on Anthony Swarzak's value: could fetch a good prospect, likely outside of top 150. Lot of available relievers. I like hearing this for sure^^ -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Swarzak is incredibly versatile this year. Had to be impressed with Swarzak today. His stuff has been very good this season, 94-96 mph fastball, quality slider as well, good location. He could certainly help a contender's pen for a stretch run -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) Honestly, me too. Must mean nothing overly intriguing has been offered. But at this point, he is our best chip of guys who are likely to be moved, so maybe Hahn is just holding out for now. Smart to hold out until just before the deadline. Pen help is always going to be in demand. He's a rental so I wouldn't expect a big return, but at least one solid prospect would be nice. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) By a long shot. If we hypothetically traded all of those guys before the season we would be by far the worst team in baseball. We still very well might be by the deadline.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) If Swarzak goes to LA, I'd like to get my old teammate Brock Stewart. I'd be shocked if a contender did not pick up Swarzak to help reinforce the bullpen for the stretch. Swarzak has the 7th highest WAR for relievers in the mlb this season and great peripherals. I'm a bit surprised he has not been dealt yet. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) We are in a year that means nothing, why would he feel that right now? We are in 2019 before we have any chance of competing for the central division, there should not be much pressure at all. Yoan just needs to settle in and he will be just fine.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) Most of this roster won't be around when the Sox are good again. Even if Moncada was a good bunter, bunting in that situation was dumb if you are trying to win a game. Why not get him prepared to do something you would want him to do to win the game? The problem here is Renteria is in absolute love with the bunt. I'm not one of these don't bunt ever guys. I do think there is a time and place for them. He should use those times if he has this urgency to bunt. I've yet to ever see a good player have some polish taken off his abilities because he wasn't a good bunter. It seems Renteria cares about this skill way too much. I've never been a fan of bunting, because the majority of the time you are conceding an out. Baseball is a game of outs and why make things any easier for the other team? In the National league it might make more sense with most pitchers being awful at the plate.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I'm good with anything, but for me, if some miracle happens where they give the Cubs four losses and they lose the division by a game, that would be pretty awesome. That said, the Cubs will win 3 or 4, and then it'll be over. Then back to trade deadline stuff. Win or lose we end up with a good result from this series. Can't complain either way. As a fan I always hope the Sox win every game, but come next June we will be much happier with the larger bonus pool and higher draft pick.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) It also probably stands to reason that Nellie would have a few more Ks and a bit more pop with the evolution of the game. But still, he would have a 70+ hit tool, if not an 80. Would you take this with your pick: Hit: 75 Power: 30 Run: 50 Field: 60 Arm: 50 (I have no idea how to rank Nellie's arm, not having seen him play) I'm basically imagining Yolmer Sanchez (thanks DA for the comp) but with elite hitting. I'm far too young to have seen him play, but a 75 grade hit tool is beyond ELITE. That high of a grade I would reserve for players with numbers like Ichiro, Ted Williams, Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, etc. guys who flat out raked. Fox's grades would likely end up looking like: Hit : 65 Power: 20 Run: 50 Field: 60 Arm: 50 FV: 65 player

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) At least we had Robertson, Q and other professionals for half a season. Won't even have that next season. Hahn will pick up some scraps off the FA heap to round out the roster next season but I don't see them being major upgrades over what we see now. We had Robertson, Kahnle, Frazier, Quintana helping to provide some level of stability to the roster in the first half. Hard to peg where we end up exactly, but right around 60 wins is looking to be realistic. 2018 is going to be painful, but at least we are fully prepared for that going in. Our minor league talent should ideally be one step closer to the majors next season, with many ETA's in late 2018 or 2019.

QUOTE (Soha @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) I agree. If the Sox have a 13 game losing streak heading in to the Tribe series on Friday...that's ok. Once Swarzak is gone our bullpen will be totally gutted. That, coupled with a weak rotation will have other teams feasting on our thin pitching staff. We are very much headed towards a top three draft pick, with a real chance at #1 overall.

QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) So there is always the discussion on if the White Sox could sign Harper or Machado, but what about a trade for Stanton? The reason I think this would be interesting is because the White Sox probably wouldn't have to give up as many prospects as usual, solely because of the amount of money they would have to take on. Something like: White Sox get: Giancarlo Stanton. Marlins get: Eloy Jimenez, Zack Collins, Dane Dunning, Alec Hansen, and Spencer Adams. That trade package is absurd haha^^^ The sheer amount of inexpensive control the Sox would be giving up to absorb Stanton's huge contract would be a fireable decision. You are giving up an elite prospect in Jimenez, a quality catching prospect in Collins, and three potential starting pitchers. That package above would land any player in the mlb. Never going to happen,

When is rock bottom of the rebuild: 2017 or 2018?
steveno89 replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Personally I think this year will be the worst just because next year you're going to see the fruits of the rebuild start to blossom in both the upper minors and MLB roster. This year, other than probably Moncada and Lopez late this summer, and some fun from Leury and Yolmer and Kahnle earlier, there really hasn't been much to cheer for. Cheer for good performances in the minors. Kopech was great last night going 8 scoreless innings with 0 walks. Burger was 5-5 with a triple and two doubles. Jimenez was 3-5 with 2 doubles and a homer. Collins homered. Imagine how bad this rebuild would be if our farm system were not where it is right now? Starting from scratch would be absolutely awful. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) You lost me with us being active in rule V draft. You might find one prospect who is young but needs to stay the whole year with the big club. The Yankees has quite a few players for example that might end up being exposed to the Rule V draft because of a lack of room on the 40 man roster http://bronxpinstripes.com/minor-leagues/t...e-5-candidates/ It would be in our best interest to scour the rule V draft and see if we can emerge with a piece that sticks for us? Can't hurt while rebuilding.
