  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) Maybe they found a way to get Calhoun I'd love a Calhoun or Diaz for Robertson deal
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) I just think it's weird to go out a limb like that. Tweet I would expect: White Sox looking for a top prospect or two in return for David Robertson. And they think they can get it. Tweet we received: Sox will get at least one top 100 prospect for Robertson. This just after good but not top 100 guys were traded for 2 good bullpen guys. Just weird. The price tag for hand is very high, making Robertson an attractive piece, especially if the sox kick in any cash.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) Seriously. Optimistically you'd want to hope this come from knowledge that there are some already on the table. But maybe even it's coming out of Nats saying they would have had to give one up for DRob? Weird timing and content. I don't feel like you see a prediction that explicit (top 100) Likely speculating on the price. I'd be thrilled to land a top 100 prospect for him
  4. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) I actually like the return for Oakland. Luzardo is the classic wild card type for a reliever but he has pitched since his Tommy John and in 13 ip has 15ks and zero walks. Neuse is doing better than Ward(offseason offer for Robertson w/Luzardo) Trienen could regain form. I would have at least listened at this for Robertson + Swarzak. From Nats point, they get a LHP with more years of control than Swarzak. The Nats also get two weeks to see if this fixes things. Good move by rizzo to get two solid arms and not sell the farm. Keeping Robles, Soto, Fedde and kieboom was key.
  5. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal now Prospects headed to #Athletics from #Nationals are LH Jesus Lazardo and 3B Sheldon Neuse. Those two plus Treinen for Doolittle, Madson. Might still have interest in Robertson, but deal far less likely now.
  6. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) I want the sox to lose all their remaining games. I'd like to see Rodon have good success to build on. Everyone else can lose every start for all I care.
  7. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) Sucks for him but it's not the worst thing in the world for the team. He's pretty close to majors anyways but we aren't competing for the next year and a half. This only delays his service time to align more with the younger guys. TJ is not the death sentence it used to be. Most guys come back fine in 12-14 months from it.
  8. Worst fears came true. Burdi to have Tommy John per Yahoo
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) So what's a potential Swarzak deal with someone? (WSH, NYY, BOS, etc.) Swarzak as a rental guy is interesting. I'd hope for an organizational top 10-15 guy and maybe a lotto ticket?
  10. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) I agree, he's got to get more creative. To win now, he can more than stabilize his bullpen problem with multiple relievers from the White Sox, give up Robles and let Soto eventually be the "Harper replacement." Of course Soto is a step down from Robles but by wasting this potential championship year, you have essentially lost Harper for this year as well...and not just the future. Or get even more creative and give up Robles & Luzardo or some other lottery ticket for Robertson, Kahnle and Basabe or Call to keep another potential "Harper replacement" in the wings. I disagree. Teams will ask Rizzo for Robles all day, but they simply are not getting him. He likely will be able to make decent bullpen acquisitions with guys like Luzardo/Neuse/Kieboom/Marmolejos/Stephenson/Watson/Johnson and not have to sacrifice Fedde/Soto/Robles. There is not a Chapman/Miller level reliever out there that is a lock down guy, hence Robles/Soto stay.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Firm believer he'll still be our #1. Giolito-Kopech-Lopez-Hansen-Dunning, remember we had too many LHPs? (Sale, Q, Rodon, Santiago) Several guys like Law have said they still view Giolito as a potential #2, and that he has actually performed better than his statistics would indicate. I think Hansen likely ends up as a reliever, but I hope I am wrong. Spencer Adams is a guy to watch out for, as I think he ends up making it as a starter. If he can maintain the fastball velocity he has shown in 2017 (92-94 mph regularly) coupled with very good control, I think he will leap over guys with flashier stuff. Guys with fringy control might be able to develop average control, but plus control is almost impossible to teach.
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Cease's delivery reminds me so much of Rich Harden it's unbelievable. I immediately thought about Rich Harden as well when watching youtube videos of him!
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Maybe a Flete and Rose 2.0 type deal, nothing big, probably actually ranked prospects this time however, some org's 15-30 guy or two I'd expect more than that since Swarzak is pitching pretty well. He could help a contender in the 7th and 8th innings. I'd like to get at least one decent prospect back
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) Robles for their pick of any 4 relievers, with the Sox picking up the rest of Robertson's money this year. Then the OF of the future would be in place, and the Nats are well on their way to a showdown with LA. Robles will not be traded as he is the direct replacement for Harper after next season. The Nationals could dangle Soto/Kieboom/Stephenson/Fedde/Neuse/Luzardo for bullpen help though
  15. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) A Gray/Alonso package seems to make a lot of sense for the Yankees at this point. Gray + Alonso is not going to come cheap. If the Yankees were not willing to pony up for Quintana, I'm not certain they want to do the same for Gray.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:04 PM) WEEI‏Verified account @WEEI 1m1 minute ago Source: Red Sox call top prospect Rafael Devers up to Triple-A http://dlvr.it/PVbgQ2 I always prefer to refer to that as a promotion. When I hear "called up" I immediately think to the show.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) According to Nightengales report, the first Robo deal was killed at ownership level, due to cash. They are at high end. They did have that big offer to Jansen but it definitely seems like there's an issue here. Idk how they offer Melancon/Jansen big money and then cry poor in a Robertson deal. The trade cost for relief help has skyrocketed ion recent years, and any decent setup arm or closer is warranting a big return (see Miller, Chapman, Thornburg trades)
  18. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) I could see them going after Gray now. After what Q got traded for, I'd expect the pricetag for Gray to be high as well. Yankees will likely consider calling up Adams to fill in
  19. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Last ditch effort to figure out who can stick before deciding how many guys you need before deadline? No team is going to find success in the playoffs without a quality bullpen. Right now the Nationals do not have any trustworthy relievers, in a year in which they desperately need several. Packaging Robertson + Kahnle/Swarzak + some salary relief for a juicy return would be awesome.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Yah, could be. Dangerous game to play there. But I suppose a Panda + Groome + 20M for Frazier may be of interest to the Sox, but doubt the Red Sox are interested in giving up Groome to save $30M over the next 2.5 years. Interesting, but I doubt they give up their top pitching prospect for what amounts to salary relief.
  21. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) People need to stop saying this has come out of nowhere or that it's a career year that he's very unlikely to replicate. He's pitching basically the exact same as he did for the Yankees last year, minus the ridiculous home runs, and similarly to how he pitched for the Yankees AAA in 2016 and the Indians AAA/MLB in 2015. He added a few mph onto the fastball and has since then been a dependable 9ish K/9 to a 2ish BB/9, 45ish GB%. That's likely gonna lead to around a 3 ERA, with the usual reliever variance depending on LOB%, HR/FB% and BABIP. Add to that his ability to go multiple innings as a former starter and that's a valuable piece. What sort of return are you expecting for Swarzak?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) The Sox asked for the same two players to get a Quintana package going. Who would you rather have... Brad Hand or Jose Quintana? I don't blame the Padres for a high ask considering how few quality relief options exist on the market right now. Hand/Robertson/Kahnle/Swarzak/Madson/Neshek/Doolittle/Wilson Ramos? Doubt Iglesias gets dealt
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:39 AM) I'd be inclined to hold Kahnle, and let him close for a year. There's some risk that he disintegrates, but it's worth the risk, imv. Hand will be interesting. I thought that way for a bit, but then I realized that you should always trade relievers if the offer is solid. Pen arms are so volatile, I'd try to sell high on Kahnle and get a team to make a good offer. If packaging some combination of Robertson/Kahnle/Swarzak together boosts the return, I absolutely would do it. Remember, we are actively trying to tank and lose games now.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Hmm... Quintana or Hand... For Brad Hand.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Ha, as a BENCHMARK for Kahnle return. I don't like player comps anymore. Except for the Eloy as Jermaine Dye. Realistically, a guy like Hand should get 1 Top 50-100 prospect and 1 more decent prospect (organizational top 20) in return. The ask can be higher, but I doubt they get a Miller/Chapman level return. Kahnle is interesting as his peripherals are outstanding this season, but the track record is not great. Relievers are getting to be very valuable trade chips now, as 7th/8th innings in the playoffs are seen as crucial to success. Will a team like the Nationals be willing to part with significant prospects for relief? They likely will have to.
