  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:09 AM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/brad-hand Hand is getting quite a bit of suitors for the Padres. What info, if any, would sox learn for any of our own relievers? Is he a comp for Kahnle? Padres are getting a lot of bites on their cheap starters like Cahill. So wish that Holland/MiGo could have sustained what they were doing. Padres were reportedly asking about Clint Frazier and Gleyber Torres...which is not happening
  2. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 02:38 AM) Potential. The key word there. And that guy is a single A pitcher you're talking about. For an ace caliber starter on one of the best deals in baseball for years to come. Don't like the deal. For the record - I hated the Shields deal with a passion, was ok with/mildly disappointed with no Devers inclusion in Sale deal, loved the Eaton deal, disappointed with this one. Cease already had Tommy John too. Holy s*** I like this deal less and less. Cubs robbed us I can't believe it. 1) Devers was never made available by Boston 2) Cease is a prospect that has trended significantly upward lately. I've heard some scouts calling his fastball among the best in the minor leagues. He also has a plus curveball and developing change. Sox will likely move Cease to high A by the start of next season, and he should be on track for 2019-2020 as a starter or reliever. There is still untapped upside and he has frontline starter potential if everything clicks. 3) Jimenez is a consensus top 10 prospect in the game. Players like that are only traded in total blockbuster deals like this.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) When giving up a talent and value like Jose Quintana, I would think the Sox should have gotten at least one player back that is just about MLB ready. I wish that along with Cease and Jimenez the Sox would have gotten back someone like Candelario or Happ or Schwarber. I know Jimenez is a highly rated prospect as is Cease, but being so far away from the major leagues makes them a very risky return for a proven talent like Q who is under control with such a reasonable contract. I know I'm almost alone in my opinion by the ecstatic reaction of almost everyone here to the trade. I wonder if the Seattle fans were this excited when the Mariners acquired Jeremy Reed + for Freddy Garcia, who was to become a free agent. Again, not knocking the potential of Jimenez and Cease, just would have liked at least one proven major league ready player to go along with them for a proven commodity like Quintana, one of the best and most consistent left handed starters in baseball signed to a bargain contract for several more years. Sox had to weigh potential risk with potential upside. I don't mind them shooting for prospects further away, but with higher ceilings. Haha stated this was by far the best offer that the Sox had received.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) I'm pretty sure I destroyed Tim Anderson's career. Asche until we will the world series it is then
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 05:34 PM) You know how much sox fans love q when we are also pissed at a guy saying we got a great trade because the player we gave up isn't any good. Rum bunter is just pissed the forever suck pirates didn't get him.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) I'd like to see Adolfo in RF. Avi will be traded as soon as it makes sense, like Rodon- in my humble opinion. I do like how we have rapidly started filling holes that existed within the organization. We went from having zero prospect depth 12 months ago, to filling outfield, infield, pitcher and catcher big time
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) This one? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/241991408/ma...picid=151437456 I took it to read that those three will fill in the bottom 2/3's of the White Sox top 30 I read it as filling prospects #11 - 30 within the organization No chance Skoug reaches top 100 anytime too soon, but Burger/Sheets hypothetically could if they mash the rest of the season.
  8. I think it's about time we got Asche's mug off the banner... and inserted the future! Moncada, Jimenez and Kopech?
  9. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) What? Um, lets see, Yankees ( no one), Red Sox (Moreland) Tampa (LoMo), Houston (Gurriel), the Angels (if they think they are still in it with Trout returning), Seattle if they think they are still in it, Texas if they want to be in it. Heck, even the Dodgers could likely use him. I think the Sox would need a considerable package in order to move Abreu. I see them keeping him another season or two to mentor younger players, and as a potential bat to flip later
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Absolutely. Anyone who doesn't pan out can be supplemented by FA signings, since we'll have about 80mm+ to spend year over year. Don't even get me started on the potential of blowing our wad on a big time free agent. I don't know if I could handle our roster adding a Machado or Harper. C - Collins 1B - Sheets/Beer 2B - Moncada SS - Anderson 3B - Burger/Machado RF - Garcia/Harper CF - Robert LF - Jimenez DH - Sheets/Beer/Burger Holy F*ck
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) The Yankees just acquired Cooper from the Brewers. Don't think they plan to invest heavily into the position. Are we drinking the 2020 coolaid yet? C- Collins 1B - Sheets/Beer 2B - Moncada SS - Anderson 3B - Burger RF - Garcia CF - Robert LF - Jimenez DH - Sheets/Beer Bench - Basabe/Adolfo Kopech/Giolito/Lopez/Hansen/Cease/Dunning/Adams/Guerrero/Stephens/Flores Burdi/Fulmer Drinking the Coolaid by the gallon
  12. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Mayo on the Q trade link We all remember the days when whoever we drafted in the first round was immediately our #1 or #2 prospect. We can rejoice in knowing the system is currently so deep that Burger is not even in the 10 best prospects we have.
  13. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Hahn would be crazy not to. I don't see Abreu's value being any higher than it currently is honestly. I expect him to regress to his numbers of the past two years by 2018, considering he will be another year above 30. You most definitely shop him and trade for what you can get. Sox will listen to offers on any player, but I doubt Abreu gets moved when guys like Alonso/Frazier are on the market Focus needs to be on dealing Robertson now
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Curious as to why you rank the Astros so high, they seem to fall off pretty sharply after their top 7-8 or so. Tucker Martes Whitley Perez Fisher Alvarez Bukauskas Paulino Stubbs Hernandez Davis Moran Rodriguez Nova Valdez That is not a shabby system^^^
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:21 PM) Mayo says burger, sheets, and skoug will all be top 100 on new list No way all three of those guys are top 100 overall prospects at this stage
  16. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Jeff Passan says suck it. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/885591003155111936 I agree to an extent that the system has gotten much better, but... Acuna, Albies, Maitan, Demeritte, Riley, Pache, Waters, Jackson, Ruiz Allard, Soroka, Fried, Wright, Newcomb, Anderson Gohara, Wentz, Muller, Minter, Morris, Wilson, Toussaint, Weigel, Sims ^^^^All of those players could end up being potential major league players...that is frightening
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) KLaw said in chat it's likely Braves 1, Sox 2 I would rank the Braves #1, White Sox #2 right now, Astros/Yankees #3/4 Braves system is just so deep, which is what sets it apart. Their #1 through #20 are very legit, although our system is making huge strides.
  18. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) Yeahhhh Kopech is going to come up fireballing and blowing people away. I think we'll be fine with that. Bittersweet dealing such a quality player and professional like Quintana. Instantly my favorite Cubs player and I wish him the best.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) I disagree. I think Sale should have brought the better package and I think he did. I posted that Q should bring 60-75% of Sale. If Moncada and Kopech were top # 1 and 12 prospects in MLB and Jimenez and Cease are 8 and 63 that is a decent drop-off. In addition, Moncada had played AA and had already had a brief shot at the majors. I hoped we could get a 12-15 and a 25-30. I assume the 3 and 4 players in each deal are a wash. Regardless, I think Hahn got the best package he could and we move on to Robertson. When we traded for Moncada and Kopech, Kopech was the #30 overall prospect in the mlb. He has risen up the rankings both due to performance at AA, and a slew of guys getting called up above him. Cease's stock has certainly been on the rise as well. He is upto #63 overall and could very well finish the season in the top 50.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Definitely looks like the Sox are targeting more volatile pitchers with big upside (Giolito/Kopech/Lopez/Hansen/Cease) to add to strike throwers like Guerrero, Adams and here recently, Dunning. The future rotation and bullpen is looking so promising. And now they've added Jimenez to Robert, Basabe, Call, Fisher etc for much needed outfield depth. Hell of a job so far by Hahn. Now let's hope Rizzo caves in so we can snag Soto or Kieboom from the Nats for Robertson or Kahnle. I'd definitely shop Robertson/Swarzak/Kahnle as we continue the fire sale I doubt Rizzo caves, but moving Q really opens things up in the trade markets now
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) I did not think we would get a prospect to the caliber of Jimenez. I think the structure with the weaker back end was more in line with my expectations. People around here thought that the 3rd and 4th pieces would be notable spects. I did not. I was told he was the hold up and kind of thought the Cubs just wouldn't budge. Do you have any insight into what other packages were offered? When did it become apparent that the Cubs had taken the lead?
  22. MLB.com needs to update the prospect list so we can all sit back and admire
  23. I admittedly did not think we would land a top 10 overall prospect for Quintana either.
  24. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) The Cubs should've paid Chris Sale price for Jose Quintana is my point. And no, not because of "some silly rivalry", but because of the additional revenue and market share loss the Sox will suffer as a result of this trade, all of which is going to go directly to the Cubs. Why would the Cubs bid against themselves? Jimenez/Cease was easily the two best prospects offered to the White Sox Who cares where we traded Q to, heck we should be happy he is out of the American League.
  25. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Not really, Basabe and Diaz at least had some projection to them. Matt Rose is a 1B with low average and high K issues, not to mention an OBP below .300. Bryant Flete is a half step from org filler. Jimenez and Cease are exciting, but this is nowhere near the Sale package (as Jimenez and Cease are essentially Moncada-lite and Kopech-lite), and that's what the Cubs should've had to pay. I'm not so certain about that. Some scouts recently said Jimenez could end up being better than Moncada. Cease has been rocketing up prospects lists and features two plus pitches already. If the changeup develops he has frontline potential. Moncada + Kopech + Basabe + Diaz is a little bit better, but not by miles, than Jimenez + Cease + Rose + Flete I'd say we got 85-90% of the value we received for Sale, which is all we could ever hope for.
