  1. Lopez was a great manager but really screwed up in the 59 Series, as did 3B coach Tony Cuccienello when in game 2 he sent Sherm Lollar home with the tying run in the 7th inning with no outs and slow Lollar was out by a mile, saw it person at old Comiskey.
  2. Can't believe anyone would give that much money to a guy whose damaged goods.
  3. Putin is a KGB bully, he would love to see a rebirth of the USSR, this could be the start.
  4. But it was Tom Seaver that got his 300th win. Do you remember slugger Roy Sievers who had 2 productive years with the Sox in 1960 and 1961.
  5. I'm 76 and as traditional as can be but I am open to some things like a going to conferences with geographical divisions, I'd like a shorter season while adding to teams in the playoffs. I'm for the universal DH. I'd like expansion with 2 more teams for a total of 32 with 2 conferences made up with 2 divisions of 8 in each conference.
  6. I don't think I ever said that, I'm an old fart who remembers when Bleacher seats were a dollar, General Admission 1.25 and Box Seats way up there at 2.50. Hot Dogs and soda pop was 25 cents and a bag of peanuts 15 cents.
  7. A pox on both of their houses, don't feel sorry for any of these gazillionaires. If and when they come to an agreement, it's us fans who will get hurt the most with higher ticket prices, higher food and beverage prices at the park and probably higher cable rates.
  8. Well the NHL and NBA playoffs will be going on until June so we all have something to keep our sports minds occupied.
  9. Good riddance to bad rubbish, how did this guy last as long as he did as an umpire?
  10. I'm for a shorter season but not for becoming the NHL and NBA with half of the teams in the playoffs. We will probably see MLB expanding to 32 teams and when they do I'm afraid we will probably see 16 teams in the playoffs.
  11. The Natural. Pride of the Yankees was a great baseball movie but as all of us know, the ending wasn't good.
  12. I loved watching the Bears at Wrigley, saw many games there in the late 50s and early 60s, with those temporary stands in right field you were right on top of the action. Papa Bear would squeeze 45,000 in Wrigley, 8,000 more than the baseball capacity in those days.
  13. Maris hit more homers against the Sox with 13 than any other team on his way to 61 in 61. I remember seeing 2 of them at old Comiskey.
  14. After game 1, I was thinking 4 game sweep, then came game 2 which we had a good chance of coming back to win if it wasn't for a bad call by third base coach sending Sherm Lollar home with no outs, Lollar was out was a mile and the rally fizzled.
  15. One of the classiest guys ever to be associated with the White Sox besides being a very good GM. What an amazing job he did improving the 1971 White Sox by 23 games as the 1970 team lost the most games in Sox history and then almost winning the Division in 1972, if Melton hadn't hurt his back the Sox probably would have won the West. May he rest in peace.
  16. That's been going for a long time, we need new ownership who will run the White Sox like the big market franchise they are meant to be.
  17. I'm fine with Leury returning, he's a good guy to have around as long as he's not out there everyday especially in the outfield.
  18. I tend to agree with you, though he had one of the greatest seasons in Sox history in 1972, I had issues with Allen quitting on the team in 1974 and as also didn't like it when as a favor we carried his brother Hank on the roster who was a complete waste so he would qualify for his MLB pension. When I think of him as a Hall of Famer I'm on the bubble but then I think if Santo is in the HOF then Allen should be in but then again if I could vote, I would take Billy Pierce over Allen.
  19. Actually the Aparicio trade helped the Sox come with their 3 best consecutive years in Sox history when they won 94 games in 1963, 98 games in 1964 and 95 games in 1965. If we had the wild card back then the Sox would have made the playoffs all 3 years plus a few more times in the 1950s.
  20. Nellie was traded in the twilight of his career but I was still very sad when it happened. Minnie, Aparicio and Baines were traded when they were still in their prime and the trades were hard to swallow.
