  1. I'm one guy who did not want Tank traded, he is too young to give up on. He now has his chance to step it up and reach the potential we all thought he had when we signed him. Up until now it looked like a platoon role for him but with Garcia out for the year Tank has to do the job, I'm not a big DeAza fan but I guess he gets LF full time and Danks will be the 4th outfielder and a late inning replacement for Tank. It could still be a fun year as we watch some of these guys develop.
  2. I did not see the play but I know one thing, I see way too much unnecessary diving for balls in MLB. Before we moved to Florida I was a pretty good friend of Jimmy Piersall who was a hell of a center fielder and he despised it when guys dove for balls.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) The Sox are never relocating because a split Chicago will always be greater than whatever s*** markets are available to move to. I'm sorry, but the whole notion is beyond ridiculous. Maybe they move to the suburbs when the Cell's lease expires, but they aren't abandoning the Chicago market for a Portland or Charlotte. There is no way such a move makes financial sense and MLB would never allow let it to happen anyways. I hope you are right but a lot of things can change in 15 years. As far as MLB would never allow it, it's still hard to believe that the Dodgers left Brooklyn. At the time it was sacreligious that it could happen but it did. Nothing surprises me anymore in pro sports, LA the second largest market in the country still has not replaced the NFL teams it has lost.
  4. Can we trade Dunn for some reliable bullpen help?
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) We did have around 3 million that year...but the bump for winning a World Series is gone by Year 5. The Cubs also had fun/entertaining teams at that time, coming off the 2003 disappointment. It's not like those teams felt like the last three years on the Northside. In the case of the White Sox, 2007 and 2009 really killed all the forward momentum. This whole situation is well-documented...Harry Caray, Sportsvision, erosion of the neighborhood in 70's and 80's, the almost opposite trendiness of the Northside simultaneously, the stadium, the lack of activities and nightlife in the area. There are a million reasons. As far as activities in the neighborhood, to me that has never mattered. I went to ball games to see baseball and hopefully a Sox win. Look at the Dodgers and Angels, both parks are surrounded by parking lots and nothing else. Nothing around Yankee Stadium that is trendy, same with Citi Field. The Phillies have played in south Philly for years, nothing around there, same with Atlanta. The Indians are downtown and after years of great crowds, their attendance is worst than ours. I guess every city is different but if a fan is a true follower of his team it doesn't matter what's around the park unless there are all kinds of criminals hanging around to mug you.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) If they had Seattle's local TV deal, even with drawing flies, they would be in the top 6 in revenue. I think it is safe to assume they should draw more fans eventually as well. Last year was almost a bottoming out. This year could be low because of last, but then the trend should start going upward. Money is no issue. The Sox were prepared to pay over $100 million for a player who had never played MLB before. That alone tells you all you need to know. I'm probably one of the few senior citizens on this site and have been a Sox fan since the early 50s and have seen some great years and some bad years. Growing up in the 50s and 60s I did not witness a losing season until 1968 after 17 straight winning seasons plus a trip to the 59 World Series, the Sox were the number one team in the city as far as Chicago baseball goes, but even back then the neighborhood always came up as a problem and when things went bad in the late 60s and mid 70s the Sox almost moved. I don't know what things are going to be like around 35th and Shields when the stadium deal is over but so many fans especially out of towers will not make the trip to the Cell because of a fear of the neighborhood. If you put JR and the other owners on a lie detector machine I'm sure it would come out that to a man they wanted the new stadium somewhere else. So many things have happened through the years that have made us the almost forgotten baseball team in Chicago, I'm sure we all know what they are, it still pains me that the Cubs outdrew us in our great Championship year of 2005 and again in 2006 when most teams experience great attendence bumps after a Championship. Ownership down through the years has always been a problem, never able to make the post- season 2 years in a row, that's sad.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Welcome to the board! The ideal thing was always the south loop, for lots of reasons, but it didn't happen. Far better than any suburban location. Your weeknight games have a huge crowd of downtowners right there, and transit from all over the suburbs is way easier than for 35th and Shields. I'm not totally convinced the suburbs would be a significant improvement over the current location, but could be talked into it. If you do the suburbs, you need to be near transit somehow, like a Metra station. Thanks for the welcome. Have been on another board since 2006 and thought it was time for a change. I guess ones point of view on the location would be where they live. Before we moved to Florida over 20 years ago we lived in the Wheaton area about 15 minutes from the Addison site. I was planning on some kind of season ticket plan but we all know what happened.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) They really blew it last time in not leaving the 35th and Shields location. Time to get out of that neighborhood and move someplace else. They tried like hell to leave 35th and Shields but got turned down by Addison, the deal the state gave them included staying at 35th and Shields. I for one will always believe that the best move was to the burbs.
