Katz has to go, just about everyone has regressed under him.

9/1 Gamethread Toussaint v. Rodriguez
The Mighty Mite replied to Timmy U's topic in 2023 Season in Review
That’s what they did after the 56-106 1971 season, first of all they brought in new manager Chuck Tanner and new GM Roland Hemond who traded for a bunch of decent veterans to go along with Bill Melton, Carlos May, Ed Hermann, Wilbur Wood, Bart Johnson, and a few other guys plus with rookies Terry Forster and Goose Gossage they improved by 23 games though it’s harder these days because of the multi year contracts. What can make it a bit easier is we now have free agency. Getz has his work cut out for him if they expect to contend in 2024. -
He needed to say that Grifol and all the coaches have been fired. I’m also surprised that JR and Getz never put any blame on the players who bottom line are the guys who are on their way to losing 100 games.

I’m so bummed out that Grifol and probably all the coaches will still be with us, this is just plain unacceptable and I’ve had just about all I can take with the franchise. -
Huge mistake.

Moncada has had only one very good year with the rest of his career consisting of a lot of lackadaisical play with too much time on the IL, let someone else take a chance on him. I realize we owe Moncada a bunch of money so there’s a good chance he stays on the Southside and like you said returns to past form but I wouldn’t bet on it. TA is another story, he has issues on and off the field and he needs to just keep his mouth shut, play the game with some hustle and he might return to what he was but with Montgomery the shortstop of the future I say trade TA and wish him good luck.

I can’t answer those questions but I’m hoping for something different from Getz and maybe an epiphany from JR that he realizes that his ways aren’t working. If those things don’t happen then it’s probably over for me after 71 years of being a die hard fan. I already watch most of the Rays games and it won’t be hard to switch allegiance to them. I’m already a huge Lightning fan as I’ve lost interest in the Blackhawks.

I thought JR said that bringing back Grifol was up to Getz, maybe I missed that Getz saying that Grifol is coming back, if he is then all bets are off and I will be one pissed off Sox fan.
-
Do you honestly think that Moncada and Anderson aren’t parts of the problem with this team?
-
I’ve haven’t liked JR for a long time but I truly believe that like all of us he was thoroughly disgusted with the team and I think Getz and company are going to make some moves that will help things get turned around in a quick way, I won’t be surprised if they eat Moncada’s contract and trade TA for anybody that can walk and chew gum at the same time. I’m looking for some substantial free agent signings also. One thing I’m really hoping for is that they fire Grifol, the man is a horrible manager and has no clue.

This.

Be careful what you wish for, an empty stadium gives JR and out to move the team to another city or sell to out of towners.
-
If Getz wants to change the culture of the franchise the first move has to be is firing Grifiol, Katz and the rest of the coaching staff and bring in a new manager who names his own coaches.
-
I will remain a White Sox and all I can do is hope that Getz exceeds expectations, let’s face it, things can’t get much worse than what we have witnessed this year.
-
He has to be better than Hahn, hopefully, maybe, I guess, who knows.

Robert is the only guy with an OPS of .800. To have had a good offense we needed not only Luis but Eloy, AV, Moncada and TA to all be .800 plus with Benintendi up near there too. For comparison sake, the Rays have 6 guys who are in the 800s in OPS with Yandi Diaz over .900.

I remember that 4 game sweep in Cleveland and at the time it was huge. The thing is that after getting beat up by the Yankees in the 50s they weren’t much of a factor in 1959. We took care of business with both of them going 15-7 against Cleveland and 13-9 against NY.
-
I get what you’re saying.
-
I’m an oldster and IIRC they still give out the Triple Crown Award for the guy who has the highest batting average, most homers and most RBI’s. Those are the stats that I still look at but I also think OPS says a lot too. For the life of me I have no idea how WAR is figured and actually don’t care.

5 insurance runs would look good.

We have a lot of guys that forgot what hustle means.
