The Chicago Cardinals football team left Chicago for St. Louis in 1960 and are now the Arizona Cardinals and after all these years there's still a soft spot in my heart for them.

Owners will do anything for money, just remember the Dodgers left Brooklyn, the Giants left NYC, The Rams left LA for St. Louis, the Browns left Cleveland for Baltimore and the Braves left Milwaukee where they never had a losing season and were the first NL team to draw 2 million fans in a season. There were a lot of moves in pro sports that made a lot of sense and the Dodgers moving to LA was like finding a gold mine but at the time in 1957 baseball fans all over the country could not believe that the Dodgers were leaving Brooklyn, it was just about sacrilegious. Don't ever buy into the idea that the Sox would never leave Chicago, it came very close to happening 3 different times.

Just curious, are there many Sox fans in your neck of the woods, at one time it was a huge Sox area as was NW indiana.

I didnt say JR was losing money, I'm saying MLB could care less if the White Sox moved and MLB would capitalize on a move with new merchandising in a new city.

The White Sox left WGN in after 1967 for UHF channel WFLD 32. The trouble was very few Chicagoans at the time had UHF TV's. They did return to WGN in the 90s for a few years showing a limited amount of games on free TV. The 1968 was a major mistake at the time and turned many Sox fans into Cub fans especially kids who came home from school and watched the Cubs on WGN. More of the same in the early 80's when the Sox went to pay TV while the Cubs with Harry Caray were televising 162 games on free WGN TV.

Could all this be a scheme to move the Sox to another city when the lease is up on GRF. Piss off the fans and watch attendance plummet to Oakland A's and Tampa Bay levels, and JR's heirs and partners sell to someone in another city, they would probably get more money from another city and buyers than they would if someone that bought the team while keeping them in Chicago. Nothing surprises me with the track record of Reinsdorf, I trust him as far as I can throw him. I'm sure some will say that the AL wouldn't allow the Sox to leave Chicago, well there is no AL anymore, it's MLB where money talks and BS walks. Let's face it, the Sox are not a premier franchise, a mediocre record down through the years with 3 WS Championships, very sad. The fans aren't exactly tearing down the walls to watch the team, the Sox drew 2 million last year for the first time since 2011, again sad. The Sox are one of the few MLB franchises that have never drawn 3 million fans in a season, pretty sad for the 3rd largest market in the country. Chicago is a Cub town and probably has 60-65 % of the Chicago market and at least half of the Illinois market who they share with the Cardinals, there are very few Sox fans in Illinois outside the Chicago metro area, the Sox market share is probably comparable to Cincinatti and Pittsburgh. All that and Chicago will probably be passed by Houston and Dallas by 2030 as 3rd largest metro area in the country while Chicago loses population. Other cities in the sun belt continue to grow, places like Charlotte, San Antonio and Nashville will be ripe for a MLB franchise. All that being said, it would pain me to see the Sox leave Chicago, I've been a fan since 1952 with many great memories but just think of the memories that Yankee, Dodger, Red Sox and Cardinal fans have. BTW This new seating plan is the most insane configuration I've ever seen, who was the genius behind that.

.....and the worst.

This is the age of the home run, what surprises me is our hitters buying in to the singles mentality we saw last year, were they going to be benched or traded if they were on their way to hitting 35 home runs. It's quite all right to cut down on your swing with 2 strikes on you or if the situation calls for just a single to win a game but otherwise look for a pitch that you can drive and get you an extra base hit or a homer.

We been in Florida going on 30 years and I still haven't been able to cut the cord with this franchise. I have no ties to the city anymore and haven't visited since 2015. I have a sister who lives in Arlington Heights but she visits us once a year. I was a die hard Blackhawks fan but am close to giving up on them as I am a big fan of the Lightning. I follow the Ray's also but something keeps me tied to the White Sox. This season might go a long way to deciding if I'm going to put up with JR's incompetence anymore, the 2022 season really tested me like no other season since 1952.

Yes we need those things to happen but we also need a second baseman.

We will be back in the 80s starting Thursday. 70s on Wednesday, we just aren't use to this cold, it's all relative.

Damn cold here in Florida also, too cold to play golf tomorrow but will be warmer for my Wednesday and Friday games.

I think you meant the Reds, the Red Sox are #11. The Phillies have also been bad, just ahead of us of the original 16 franchises.

The Cubs won 3 NL Pennants in the 30s and again in 1945 besides a few in the early 20th century. It is WS wins that they have come up short, tied with us with 3 but we win the tie breaker for beating them in 1906 in the WS. I'm pretty sure they've been in 11 WS to our 5.

So sad.

Keep your eye on Dodgers prospect Bobby Miller who is the grandson of my best friend when I was growing up in Rogers Park on the northside of Chicago. Unfortunately my old friend died 20 years ago and will not see his grandson become an MLB pitcher

Who cares whether it's Moncada, Moncado or Avacado, the guy is a bust and I am keeping my fingers crossed that he's traded before the 2023 season starts.

Yeah, we drove by the stadium last week on the way to dinner, from the road you could see extensive damage. Ian really did a number to our area and so many things still have to be fixed plus the massive clean up is ongoing and who knows how long it will take. The roofers down here are going to busy for a least a couple of years, it's amazing seeing so many homes with blue tarps waiting for new roofs. We live in a condo with our street having condos on one side and single family homes on the other, our condo didn't lose a shingle as we had a new roof put up in April and most of the other condos made out well but every single family house is tarped.

I always thought that Walker was going to be maybe a superstar especially with that sweet swing of his but it was not to be and then he had a seizure in 1988 just about ending his career.

I'm old and wanted to put Appling on my SS list but I never saw Luke play and I'm not THAT old.
