Time to see if the Astros will take a reliever or two
he gone. replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's unlikely that we can convince the Astros to take one of our guys, but that being said I'd love to see Tony Kemp, Tyler White or JD Davis in our lineup. Any of those 3 would be a top 5 bat instantly on our team. -
Welington Castillo to be suspended 80 games for PED, per Rosenthal

I know Swihart has been mentioned and that supposedly his price is high, just pointing out that Pedroia is supposed to be back this weekend which means one less roster spot. Swihart is out of options. Getting very tight in Boston for open spots. I don't know how much more time they have to be stubborn on a trade. They may have to trade for a lower value than they'd like. Depending on the price I think it's worth a shot. Otherwise let's just fill space and bring up Zavala when he's healthy. -
If the Sox bring him up this year it will not be a disservice to the rebuild at all - what it hopefully means is that he was tearing the cover off the baseball in AA, was promoted to AAA and that he repeated that success there. I'd hope to get him a few weeks up here in September, let him get a full ST in next year and then have him start in Charlotte next year for a month or so.

White Sox vs Cardinals 5/2/18 12:15PM

s*** happens. If he's out there you have to trust Yoan, Hermy and staff that he's okay to play. If he's on the field he should be playing the game the right way. -

51 pitches, 6 k's, 5 IP. I mean, this is about as efficient as you can get. That's what, 3.5 pitches an AB --- and to think when you have to throw at least three pitches to get a strikeout? This is a fun game to watch. Let's get a Moncada solo shot and win a CG duel 1-0. -

Stealing a base is not balls to the walls.... Abreu should be at 1b with that theory, don't try pushing him to get a double because he might pull something. Its ridiculous to play the game like that. -

it seems as if the scouting report said to try and be aggressive against Martinez, because this game is buehrle pace. -

These guys aren't made of glass.... why send Anderson ever then? And we should have Giolito just work on his pitches this season, don't worry about winning. Let's just treat it as spring training............. Come on, he fouled it off his toe, Hermy came out, he stayed in... he can run. By the theory of this board he should just go get treatment right now and sit out the game. Let's not risk him RUNNING. -

Good enough to play. I wouldn't be surprised if we are in the 5th or 6th and that was our best opportunity to get to Martinez. -

With Martinez on the mound, and after Abreu popped out I would have liked to seen Nicky work the count a bit and try and send Moncada to 3b. I realize it's Yadi behind the plate, but I'd take my shot that way. Just don't think there will be many opportunities like we got in the first against Martinez. Would like to be aggressive. -
Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
he gone. replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think you can count on a Top 9 pick regardless with the bottom dwellers being: Reds, Royals, Tigers, Sox, Orioles, Marlins, Padres, Rays, Rangers. I'd say our real competition for a top 3 pick are Marlins & Reds. Reds are a better team than they're showing but in a tough division. Marlins just don't have any pitching. I think the Royals are better than they're showing and play in a division with us and the Tigers so we're going to beat each other up for wins. Rangers are terrible. I can see them falling fast too. After that there's a significant jump: Twins, Giants, A's, Pirates, Rockies, Braves, Mariners, Blue Jays, etc. I'll keep this post in my memory, but after 20 or so games my guess is this: 1-Marlins 2-Rangers 3-Reds 4-Sox 5-Rays 6-Tigers 7-Royals -
Adam Engel -- how much longer does he have as a regular?
he gone. replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Making plans out of ANY of this motley crew we've put together seems foolhardy. I think it's more likely we acquire an OF like a Jon Jay (not him specifically - a player like him) to supplement our OF in 2020 and beyond. Speaking about Tilson, Cordell, May, Thompson, Engel, etc. etc. -

Jacob May may very well be doing better than Tilson at this current time, but I don't think we are judging players by 20 games. 99 of 100 people would take Tilson over May. That's assuming 100 people even know either of these two players. What I am saying is Tilson has a better shot than Cordell, Engel, May, Thompson and Garcia to make it as a 4OF on a contending team in a few years. -

Tilson could use a few weeks of seasoning, but by June 1 he should be up. His track record before the injury wasn't too shabby. Whatever it is we know Engel isn't the answer. So I do agree, although I don't think Trayce is the answer either, that he should be playing the majority of the time. -

I know Cordell is hurt..? if that's what you're implying. He still should be given a chance the second half of the season though. I also stick by my post that I don't think Trayce Thompson should have been afforded this opportunity. He's better than Engel, but that's not saying much. I think Tilson should get a crack at CF for an extended period soon. -

QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 18, 2018 -> 12:59 PM) We also were set in the OF for the next decade with Joe Borchard, Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney... Hey Now!! Brian Anderson STILL should be the starting CF for the Sox. He was robbed! -

My list of possible 4 OF with positives and negatives of each. Hopefully we have Avi, Robert and Eloy out there and the final spot goes to someone who can play all 3 spots decently and provide speed and defense with some hope as a bat. aka - some power, some speed, some walks I am assuming their age and role in 2019 and 2020 as that's when it'll matter. Now? It really doesn't. By 2021 one of these guys should be a 4OF (likely it might not be any of these guys) Cordell - 26 years old currently. 27 and 28 respectively. Played AAA for first time as 25 year old. 11th round pick. Held his own at each level in the minors, decent speed, decent getting on base, not sure on defense. However he's played in the PCL league and this year in Charlotte. Both are good for offensive numbers. I see him as a Band-Aid. Charlie Tilson - 25 years old currently Split seasons at A and A+ and then A+ and AA for his first two season at age 20 and 21 reaching a full season at AA at 22 and then AAA at 23. He's stole 46 bags in AA in 2015. Hit basically .282 and above each year, with the .282 coming in his first year at AAA. OBP decent. Played full seasons each year minus last year. Off to a cold start this year. Trayce Thompson - 27 years old currently (hypothetically) Bounced a round a bit over the past few years as we are aware. Batted nearly .300 with the CWS at age 24 getting on base at nearly a .363OBP. He was traded to the Dodgers and hit .225 over 260 AB's playing good efense and hitting 13 homers. Down in AAA at 26yo he hit .212 over 370AB's. Didn't really hit many homers or walk or slug either. Really tough year. He has proven himself on a somewhat limited basis what he probably tops out at in the MLB. With consistent AB's you can probably pencil in .240BA and some power, probably a bit worse with spotty AB's. Decent defense and can cover all positions. However would be 28 and 29yo respectively when he's called to do 4 OF duty Leury Garcia - 27 years old currently He's had a taste of the majors since 22 years old in 2013, but with his first real extended look coming last year with 326 AB's hitting .270 and 9HR. His last real minor league experience was 2016 when he crushed the ball .313BA and OBP .367. no real power, and is what I'd call replacement level at OF defense. Engel - 27? years old currently I think we all know what he is. Strong D and speed. Very poor everything else. The field: Rutherford - 20 years old In Single A right now. Had a rough year against expectations last year. Even with a truly execptional year in 2018 would guess by 2020 he's still in the minors. Say he finishes in AA this year. Starts in AA, makes it to AAA midseason in 2019. Seems unlikely that even happens. If it does were probably looking at him as an actual starter. Otherwise I'd guess 2021 as a year he'd come up as 4OF. Robert - 20 years old Doubtful he'll be up either in 2020. I can see him taking the meteoric route. But that puts him in the OF as a toolsy OF in 2020. Adolfo - 21 years old currently Probably still at least 2-3 years away. Basabe - 21 years old Great defense. Toolsy. Not a great year last year. Strong start this year. Based on defense might be the type of guy who works his way to the MLB level quickly as a 4OF. if you want him to be apart of the true future OF then I think he needs 2-3 more years of seasoning with the bat in the minors. Long winded post, but my order of who I think has the brightest future 2018-2021 as the fringe 3/4OF while we await Robert. Meaning the guy who should be manning the 3rd OF spot and then slot to 4OF when Robert comes up. Tilson (current-2021) Basabe (pushing for job in 2020-2021) Cordell (pushing for job second half of 2018 and into the future - think job should go to Tilson first) Leury (holding down the job now, but should be pushed by Tilson) Rutherford (Ideally ready by 2021 at which point he should replace Tilson or Basabe) I think that Engel, Jacob May and Thompson shouldn't be considered at all now or in the future. -
We need to have some baseball in our lives again... Also for Moncada to go 5-8 in his next two games. It's early It's cold. I get he's not lighting the world on fire and hasn't really ever torn it up in the MLB, however the talent is there. I think I read his exit velocity off the bat is the highest in the majors? He reminds me of Avi Garcia in ways... I just hope it doesn't take him that many years to figure it out. Really though? Who cares if it takes him 30, 60, or 130 games to figure it out this year. We suck and aren't competing this year. We just need him ready to rock and roll for next year. That goes the same for literally everybody on our team.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 12:44 PM) It is a pretty hard and fast 5 PM opening. It's pretty stupid, but the food is really good. Merp. That's a shame. I love their food. I wanted to take my Pops there as he's about as Polish as they come. Maybe it will be a postgame activity instead! I appreciate the response though. I'm not lying when I said I've called them at least 3 times...all during business hours. Not once did they answer the phone.

As long as Moncada is fine mentally at the leadoff spot then I am fine with him there this year. Get him as many AB's in a pointless year. Based on a few quotes from him earlier in the week seems like he is still confident. I think you don't change a thing until at least 30-40 games in a season like this. Let him get comfortable, let it warm up. Let this team find its groove. The only players that should have any pressure are bullpen guys and players that are being pushed by organizational depth... and even at that, look at Cordell/Tilson start in AAA. Let it ride.

This is off topic - but I can't seem tot get a response from Kimski at all ---- not going to lie, they have the WORST customer service. Do any of you know if Kimski is open before weekday Sox games? I'm almost positive Maria's is, but not sure if Kimski is. I want to go before the Seattle series (Wednesday 1:10pm) day game. I've called three time during open hours, emailed, and tweeted at them over the past two weeks to ZERO response. Their site says they open at 5pm during weekdays, but was thinking there'd probably be an exception for Sox games?

This weekend MIGHT get one game in. Supposed to get close to 5 inches on Saturday. At this point you can't even blame MLB for the season starting early or Twins not having a dome.. average high is 60+. We're just stuck in a freak Spring.

I think one of the most frustrating things is that Jerry was stubborn and wanted the same address. I don't think anybody is THAT nostalgic or cares that much about that besides him. That was a big mistake. If you just switch the park around you have some of the skyline in the background of your OF and it changes the overall feel of the whole ballpark. I mean, if any of you have been to Detroit, you walk out of their stadium and the Grand valley state building is very unassuming. But once inside, that building pops. Frustrating, but is what it is. We're not KC or Cleveland or a suburb, we're one of the coolest and best cities for architecture and we built a bland stadium. Oh well. Just better do it right next time!

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 10, 2018 -> 07:29 PM) Reportedly 947 people attended the game yesterday https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/04/10/white-sox...flow_twitter_si I hate that Sox PR let this get out. This is spreading around the internet as a story now. That game would be canceled 10 of 10 if it were against a division opponent. 10,000 paid to get in, that's all that counts. I keep hearing this from my Cub friends. It's maddening.
