Yolbert looks good up there. -
Offensively, the Sox are better in RF than either of the last two years
Timmy U replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Good point. And don’t forget that Romy Gonzalez is also a pretty good outfielder. A roster spot for “5th outfielder” won’t be necessary, unless maybe it’s to get another left handed bat on the team. -
Twins trade Donaldson, kiner for Gary Sanchez and Urshela
Timmy U replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I bet they are thrilled to get out from under Donaldson’s contract. Urshela has always killed us, but I’ll take Sanchez’s potential for killing us over Garver’s proven success against us. Twins have radically reshaped, not sure they are better. Interesting moves, though. -
Agree. I think from here on out they're going for volume over quality. I bet Kopech, Keuchel, Lopez, Lambert, Crochet are involved in a lot of piggybacks for the first 6 weeks of the season.

Offseason Part 2 - Lets the Rumors & Action Begin
Timmy U replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd be surprised if the Sox sign Conforto now. All lockout my concern has been pitching depth, and that's what Hahn said too. You can get by with some amalgam of Vaughn, Sheets, Engel, Romy Gonzalez (with maybe Cespedes or even Colas later) in rf and Leury, Mendick, Romy Gonzalez (with maybe Yolbert Sanchez or even Popeye later) at second, but when the entirety of your pitching depth is Reynaldo, Lambert, and... I don't know... Bilous?... you better get some arms. -
Rodon to SF, 2 years, $44 million (opt out after year 1)
Timmy U replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a pretty great signing by the Giants. Sure, there’s risk, but SF prints money with that ballpark and it is max 2 years. The upside is a top 5 Cy Young guy. I certainly would rather pay Carlos 22 mil than give 16 to Kimbrel, but that’s me. -
So, you're saying I have no shot of being a major league player?
-
Wow. I was about to come on and say May 1 first game June 1. Great minds think alike.
-
I just love seeing anyone in the batting cage. My brother and I were planning to see a game at Winston Salem this year anyway. Now I might move there.

If the owners refused to counter, met, and rallied together to make a big offer that would lead to the players also offering concessions and this was the best they could do, we may be in for a very long work stoppage. It would be hard to consider this anything other than incremental at best. I was hoping this would be a game changer, I am very disappointed. As far as the CBT is concerned, why should the players of every team suffer because certain markets aren’t viable (e.g. Tampa) or certain owners are wealthy beyond imagination but philosophically opposed to healthy payrolls (e.g. Oakland)? I fear that the owners are going to have a hard time negotiating with each other to make the kind of offer that will tempt the players to settle.

Listened to the podcast. Thanks, it was fun and informative.

I disagree. Small market teams wanna cut costs no matter what. Big market teams are gonna want to start the season.

It's really an interesting strategy to take a bunch of college players and then process them quickly. And I agree the results are not stellar. They have gotten players to the majors, but the impact is debatable. 2018 is an interesting class. They've traded Madrigal, Steele Walker, Pilkington, and Heuer. Lency Delgado busted. Arguably they could still get value out of Stiever, Bilous, Romy Gonzalez, Luke Schilling, Davis Martin, and I suppose Cabera Weaver? Ultimately, that draft class will be middle of the pack in career WAR, so not a disaster, but the headliners are a contact-oriented 2b, and a bunch of reliever/backend starter types. The guy who has upside athletically is Romy Gonzalez, but low probability he becomes a multi-year starter.
-
Collier is the guy I was hoping for, but if he keeps swinging it like this, he will not be around when they pick.
-
It’s possible the owner doesn’t want any opportunity for media to ask about the lockout. If the owners are gonna play hardball, the less said, the better for them. Sucks, but we may be in for a very long Spring.
-
Yep. If you were going with Castellanos, you might as well run Sheets/Vaughn out there. At least they try.
