  1. Watching right now. He looks pretty good, but this might be Cleveland's hitters too. They do not look hitterish.
  2. I bet he would. I think every single Sox player gets hate on this board, regardless of size, religion, or nation of origin. Sox fans are equal opportunity in that way.
  3. I look at it this way: I have zero faith in Lopez, but Saturday would have been a bullpen day anyway. (Flores says he was stretched out to about 3 innings in Schaumburg). If Lopez gets into trouble, start emptying a fairly well-rested pen starting with Gonzalez, Flores, and Detwiler. If Lucas can give you at least 6 on Friday, that should be very doable. I am not thrilled, but it’s not the end of the world. I’m sure RR will have him on a short leash. I’m actually more afraid he will do well, and then he is counted on every fifth day for the last 15 games.
  4. Absolutely. I just couldn’t think of another lefty hitting FA right fielder. Mazara May be struggling but it’s a rare commodity. I thought Polanco might be worth a flier. Oops.
  5. Interesting. Who would that big money RF be? IMHO, it’s gotta be Harper, right? Two years later, it seems obvious he would have been a much better fit than Machado.
  6. Don’t know if you’re aware of this Princeton study but it is the single most depressing analysis of the phenomenon you’re talking about. The donor class is really the only group that matters when it comes to public policy. https://scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf
  7. Personally, I would pass on paying a lot for another RH bat. He’s better than Mazara or any minor league options, but there’s redundancy in his skill set. I would rather have Bauer (though I think that is unlikely). I would probably spend the money in a very unsexy way, lock up Giolito.
  8. Mazara is starting to look way better. Can you imagine our lineup if he's a consistent threat?
  9. He just signed an extension. Mets would have to be blown away to trade him. His contract has $50 million in deferred money, so JR would want relief from that. Never say never, but it would take a haul. Vaughn + Kopech?
  10. Does Renteria owe Cordero money or take out an insurance policy on him? Cuz it sure looks like he’s trying to kill him.
  11. Moncada has got to get an Umpire Benevolent Society sticker for his helmet or something. Never seen a guy get so many bad calls against one guy.
  12. I'm putting a lot of weight on the SSS of what he looked like in March both in sides and his one time on the mound. Stuff was electric. Normal Spring Training for pitchers is 7-8 weeks. That's a reasonable amount of time to shake off rust, especially considering he'll have a normal offseason to ramp up. I can see a world where he's in the minors until June 1, but if he can't go at all as a starter, they're basically screwed. Pitchers with Kopech's stuff just don't grow on trees. Bauer's an interesting name, but he seems committed to signing a one year free agent contract every year for the rest of his career. If true, can you imagine the Sox giving up their first round pick and $18 million for a guy who has been as inconsistent in his career as Bauer? I'd be surprised.
  13. Also does not bode well for the development of Tyler Johnson, Ruiz, or Hamilton.
  14. Alex McRae?! We now know the extent of our pitching depth. It ended at Flores. Hmm, I have a strong suspicion that Stiever is not 100% back from whatever was going on in March.
  15. I feel the same way about this as I did when I thought we signed him: meh.
  16. I think we gotta give him a break. He's still recovering from Covid. Amazing he's able to play at all, really.

    RR

I am old enough to remember when Torborg was fired because he couldn’t get the team from point B to point C, so they hired Gene Lamont. (Reinsdorf really wanted Leyland.) so I could imagine RR getting canned at the end of the rebuild. Not holding my breath though.
  18. Huh? Everyone knows that. It's the rule for this year. You gotta be up by September 15th. That's not Vaughn, that's everyone. This is not insider knowledge. It's like tweeting "I have been informed that if kids want to dress up and get free candy, they must go around their neighborhood on October 31st."
  19. I would love for that to be the last appearance of Cishek in a Sox uni. Give Steiver a shot?
  20. And he threw strikes. For giving up two runs, he looked pretty good.
  21. I like Dylan’s change. Surprised he doesn’t throw it more.
  22. I think that’s who he is right now. I wonder if that “McCann calls pitches that get me back on track” idea would work with Cease and his slider.
  23. My thoughts go out to Yoan. I know some people who've had Covid complications and the recovery can be months long even for people who weren't hospitalized. He's a long-term guy, so I hope they do their best to take care of him.
  24. Wow. If you can play Eloy in left and Vaughn in right, Robert is league MVP on defense regardless of what he hits.
