  1. Sort of a depressing list. Taylor's 28, Carroll's 28, Phegley's 26, Danks is 27, Bassitt isn't a top prospect. Semien is the only one of these guys who is a potential starter down the road and he's probably going to platoon at third so we'll see him a quarter of the time. I would have loved to see if Mitchell could have been a DeAza-level contributor. Instead, we're stuck with another month of the Jordan Danks experiment. Oh well, more time to focus on my job.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Probably easier to list everyone on the 40 who won't get called up: Trayce Thompson Davidson Fernandez De Los Santos maybe not Bassitt Fernandez and De Los Santos are release candidates. Gonna be a crowded 40 man beyond them. Tough decisions loom on Surkamp, Taylor Thompson, and Carroll.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) Semien and Phegley not playing today, probably already in Minnesota Might mean neither Mitchell nor Danks is getting the call. Makes me wonder who is getting DeAza's ABs.
  4. I like Semien, but he's not the Sox future at short in the eyes of the organization. I think Tim Anderson is the guy slated to replace Alexei.
  5. I think this is 100% about making Anderson eligible for the Fall League.
  6. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Yikes, Byron Buxton was stretchered into an ambulance after a collision some dude called the worst he'd ever seen. Didn't move for 10 minutes apparently. Concussion. Thank goodness nothing more serious, not that concussions aren't bad.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) really? We drafted him in the same draft like three picks before Trout. I think we made a mistake. Do you disagree?
  8. I understand that it is totally foolish, but I haven't 100% given up on Mitchell yet. He is striking out less. If he puts the ball in play, he has a chance of being a DeAza type with better defense. Still not worth drafting ahead of Trout, but not a release candidate right now IMHO.
  9. To be fair, though, Molina had nowhere near the prospect profile Danish has. Converted infielder becomes reliever and has one big year as a starter before AA wisely dumped him on us. Danish is a second round pick who has obliterated 2 levels before he turned 20. Apples and shinier apples.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) Trayce Thompson I think, right? Thompson is already on the 40 man. The guys I have are Wilkins, Kevan Smith, Ravelo, Saladino, Snodgrass, Bassitt, and Montas. I think Micah Johnson has one more year, which is why you may not see him up this year.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 10:36 PM) This is exactly it, if he doesn't show something in AAA, he's probably one of the first guys on the chopping block when roster spots are needed. There are a ton of guys like Raul Fernandez and Frank De Los Santos on the chopping block ahead of Mitchell. Sox pitching depth on the 40 man is pathetic.
  12. Guy who hit him was former Sox farmhand Kanekoa Texeira, part of Swisher trade to Yankees. Figures. The curse of those Swisher trades continues.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Avi was hit in the left wrist Great. Just what he needed. Hope it's not broken.
  14. Avi HBP had to leave game. Anyone know where he was hit?
  15. Tekotte sold back to AZ. Mitchell back to Charlotte. If he can keep the approach he had at Birmingham, not taking a lot of fastballs down the middle for strike three, maybe he still has a shot as a 4th outfielder or DeAza who can catch things. I root for him because he seems like an extremely nice guy. Not holding my breath, though, he has teased us before.
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Also would have liked to see Sierra back in the line up Me too. Viciedo isn't exactly good against rhp either.
  17. I was at that game. Doubleheader. Also the debut of Alex Fernandez. In the second game, Frank hit a screaming liner that never got more than 10 feet off the ground and hit the wall in right for a triple. Never looked back after that.
  18. Obviously the best outcome for a high-average, low power, defensively challenged right-hand hitting 3b/1b is Edgar Martinez, who was not highly thought of as a prospect, but got a shot cuz Jim Presley couldn't stop striking out. (Kind of a Matt Davidson type). Ravelo's never going to be a top prospect, but maybe he gets a shot in the next couple of years to prove his hit tool translates to MLB. Stranger things have have happened.
  19. The second ten is mostly a rearrange of their preseason list. I mean, Andrew Mitchell has really struggled finding the zone. If they were really looking with fresh eyes, you gotta imagine Dykstra is over Mitchell and Braulio Ortiz. Also, by next year, I bet Freundenburg, Lowry, and Jace Fry are ahead of those guys too. You don't get the sense the same amount of consultation with scouts is possible in season with these lists.
  20. Escobar has really struggled this year as well. Seems about right, actually. Here's a question: who would you rather have Montas or Escobar?
  21. Jake Peter ended up going 5-6 with 4 doubles. Now hitting .412. Maybe time to move him up. Or retire his number.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Semien is the classic "gets a cup of coffee in MLB and now everybody thinks he sucks" guy. Marcus has accomplished far more than Micah at this point and the only tool where Micah beats him is speed. Marcus, at present, is clearly a better bet on defense, for power, for plate discipline, and hit tool in general. It isn't so far apart that Micah can't pass him up, but that's how it is. Micah hits right-handed pitching much better than Marcus does. And, to be fair, vice versa. May be looking at a platoon. Similarly, Sanchez, though a switch hitter, struggles with lefties. I predict plenty of at bats in Semien's future, but if he doesn't start hitting righties better, he's coming off the bench.
  23. Another part of Buerhle's Sox legacy is his continuing affect on his teammates. I was at a game before the break started by Danks, so when a kid from the Sox RBI program threw out the first pitch, guess who caught it? Chris Sale. You could tell the kid was absolutely thrilled to meet him instead of the 25th man who catches those things for other teams. Do you think Clayton Kershaw or Justin Verlander is catching ceremonial first pitches? It is cuz Sale played with Buerhle, who taught him a ton about how to be a major league pitcher on and off the field.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Davidson playing SS, with Sanchez pulled out in case the Sox need him. Micah not available? Odd thing is Saladino is the DH.
