Anthony Hoopii Tuionetoa, reliever the Sox acquired from Texas for Grossman. He and Coffey have to be added to the 40 man in the offseason. Have no idea why they aren't getting a shot in the majors.
-
I just don't understand rostering Touki. He was bad in AAA, he's bad in mlb. He simply does not throw enough strikes. I'll agree there's some bad batted ball luck in this inning, but there are guys in the minors who have better stuff.
-
Baldwin plays ss, Sosa plays 2b, Vargas at 3b. Ramos has gotten hot at AAA. Maybe he comes up when Vargas shows he can't play 3rd. Fletcher and DeLoach instead of Sheets. Maybe even give Colas another shot? Quero is ready. Give him the at bats instead of Robinson. Mason Adams for Flexen until Thorpe comes back. Adisyn Coffey instead of Wilson (who can be sent down). AHT for Touki or Leone.
-
Excuse me for being confused, but why does this team have Lopez, Sheets, Robinson, Touki, Flexen, Wilson, etc. on the roster at all? A little late to say they're trying to win games, isn't it?
-
Outside of Rooker, Oakland's line up is pretty bad. Now think about how they are 20 games better than the Sox in the standings.
-
Nishida was an 11th round pick. Madrigal was picked 4th overall. Nishida did play 2b last night. Nishida walks a ton and can actually steal bases. Nishida hits lefty. Nishida is not a similar player to Madrigal except for the lack of power. He is unlikely to make the majors, but he is fun. And again, he cost very, very little unlike Madrgal.

Ump squeezing Cannon. They're bad enough without also getting the calls going against them.
-
Quero tried to stretch a single into a double (he is very slow) and may have jammed his right leg. Stayed down for a sec, but left under his own power. Worth keeping an eye on.
-
W-S up 9-2. Another big game for Kath. I wonder if he's turning a corner.
-
Quero looks like he's ready. He should be their starting catcher next year, so they may want to give him some mlb exposure.

Man, Sox Latin signings have not done well.

Sanchez is being promoted. Catastrophic year in AA for Burke. Hopefully, he hits in his return to AA. It’s an uphill climb for him to get to the majors now.

Gamethread: 8/5 - I Have A Bad Feeling About This One

Do not sleep on Taylor. His stuff is absolutely filthy. -
Batista is a smallish rightie acquired for bonus pool space from the Dodgers. Very quick arm. Has been very good during 1 calendar year over 2 seasons at Kanny. Legit prospect.
-
Demote Wilson?
-
They kept Lambert and Foster on the 40 man through the offseason last year while cycling through other arms, some of whom turned out to be useful. It will be interesting to see if Lambert survives another offseason.
-
Quero 3-4. He is getting very close to being ready.
-
The good news in this is now there is an explanation for Thorpe’s severe drop off in his lat 2 starts. His arm was hurting.
-
They weren’t gonna score, so it doesn’t matter, but what the heck is wrong with Wilson? He’s been a gas can for like 2 months. They sent him to Charlotte, where he got lit up and then he returned no better. Meanwhile, Coffey has been lights out. Cousin could get a chance. AHT has been solid. They have room on the 40 man now and it’s gonna be a ghost town after this season. Why not try someone else? Also, Berroa? Seriously? Every single reliever in their system has been better than him this year. At least try to win the occasional game.
-
Berroa is not part of the Cease trade. Iriarte has been up and down this year, but pretty good in his last two starts.
-
Yes.

Thorpe is a nice player, but he is not the key player in their rebuild. Schultz, Smith, and Taylor all have way higher upsides and should all get an audition by early 2026. It will be interesting whether this is a cut and dried thing or if Thorpe rests and rehabs to try to avoid surgery. If he had surgery now, he’d be ready by Opening Day 2026. If he goes like Davis Martin, God only knows what a return might look like. I feel bad for the player, but he’s not irreplaceable.
-
First Kopech, then Crochet, now Thorpe. Sox love TJS obliterating early years of control. They need to sacrifice a goat or something to change the luck.
-
Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
