  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2013 -> 07:40 AM) When Jose first got here, he was the most frustrating pitcher I watched since Jaime Navarro, though that was more of murderous rage than just regular old frustration. But man when he turned it on mid-05 he was basically unhittable for a calendar year. Easily the most dominant stretch by any White Sox starter I can remember in my lifetime.
  2. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Yeah, it's called pitching. Not everyone can be lights out. I'm not saying he was supposed to be lights out, I'm saying he doesn't have like one defining moment. Like Danks is just as frustrating as Floyd, but he always has Game 163. Floyd was just.... there.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 08:42 PM) That stinks, thanks for the memories Gavin. Thankfully they don't have additional years locked up in him. It's Santiago time for sure. What memories are those? '08? Haha. He didn't really have any stand out games that I can remember in his Sox tenure. Just a lot of frustration followed by intermittent stretches of dominance, followed immediately by more frustration haha
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) The draft pick crowd should be thrilled. This has been a great day for them. I consider myself more the mid-season sell off crowd thank you very much haha. The Sox ability to draft and develop has been more than questionable for a long time... They're much better at trading and giving a chance.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ May 2, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Merkin and Gonzales tweeting he was only 84-87. Lordy...
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 49m Sounds like Axelrod Friday, weather permitting. White Sox would need a starter Saturday--could be Peavy but not known yet What's Erik Johnson's schedule? I would have to imagine he would have priority to start if he is indeed on schedule. If not him, Rienzo?
  7. Well if he is out for the season, it's certainly his last in a White Sox uniform. So if he comes back it'll be with someone else.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) Cmon. I don't think the manager can be blamed for injuries. Tell that to Mark Prior.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) Ugh Blah Puke Vomit post. I hate when hindsight is used like this. Yep, cause hindsight of past decisions by coaches and managers is NEVER used when analyzing any sports ever.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) Except none of the young starters or relievers are actually hurt. True, but both Sale and Quintana haven't look great so far this season. Q seems to get gassed around the fifth and Sale didn't look good to start the game yesterday, but manned up for sure to get 7 strong in there, but the velocity is inconsistent which could be a sign of too many innings. We won't really know until later in the season.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) I wouldn't say it's his fault really. It's just the price you pay when you're in contention all season long. Unfortunately, the Sox have nothing to show for contending last year though. Well pushing a young bullpen and young starters and almost never using the bench hurts and that's kind of on Robin.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Let's hope pushing players extremely hard last year isn't coming back to bite the White Sox. If that's true, it's yet another ding in Robin's armor.
  13. There just had to be an article about how well the Sox stay healthy in the off-season didn't there? What a jinx that's become Jesus...
  14. Well now MY back hurts!
  15. I'm glad we'll see of Hector can hack it in the rotation going forward.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) For the next few months, you'd like to see Gillaspie on the bench against LHP. If the Sox fall out of contention though, I'd love to see Gillaspie be a full-time starter so he can get experience vs LHP (very minimal in his MLB career so far) in order to see if he can hit them. If Gillaspie can be a .275 hitter and provide 13-15 homers, it will be a great young piece for this team going forward. Might take a while for the team to admit they're out of contention, if ever, this season. They're very stubborn about that kind of stuff. Especially with always finishing around the middle so it appears like they had a shot to catch the Tigers (or Twins of the past) when we all knew they didn't. it's part of the curse of playing in the Central. I wish the team would just pick a lane, if they're going to be in contention they gotta start ripping off 8 of 10 kinda streaks, but if not, just fall into such a dep hole that they're forced to evaluate the possibility of selling off Peavy and Rios and giving Conor a shot at starting everyday (possibly calling up Erik Johnson if Gavin is done for the season too)
  17. Conor is the only thing interesting about the team right now. Since nothing is happening this year you gotta get a longer look at him at third to see if he can stick as an everyday starter. That means no platooning. Kepp can be the utility guy, which I think he's fine with. I know he got the long term deal and that money plays, but this should be Gillaspie's time to shine.
  18. Also Game 2 was tied. Not like the Angels were going to wrap it up there if AJ doesn't run to first. Hell Crede might have led it off with a blast in the 10th. Bottom line 2005 was a TEAM effort and you can't elevate one player over anyone else on that team cause they all did their part. So to say without AJ they don't win the series is ludicrous.
  19. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:49 PM) You miss the point. Of course players come and go but that doesn't mean that you don't continue to appreciate the contributions they made when they were here and you don't wish them ill just because they are no longer on the team. After all AJ contributed to the Sox while he was here, why be happy that he was drilled? It makes as much sense as Cleveland fans booing Thome. But I'm sure the players didn't have an issue with Thome haha. Can't deny AJ is an asshole, hell even the other "Sox Legend" up in the booth was laughing at it. He wasn't trying to scorch the Earth and you know he can at the drop of a hat haha
  20. The hero worship of the 2005 team makes me laugh sometimes. f*** YES I'm glad these guys came together and won a title. It will probably be the greatest sports moment of my life, but s***, you gotta let it go. People age, players get less effective in the field. Happens to EVERYONE. I swear there are people on this message board who would take the entire 2005 team as they are in 2013 for the current Sox Roster. Old age, retirement and all...
  21. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:22 PM) Sox wouldn't have even made the playoffs with Jamie Burke or Ben Davis along with Widger as their catchers. 2005 was statistically probably AJ's worst with the Sox. He was great in the playoffs however, but really that was a TEAM effort. It wasn't like basketball where you have that dominant superstar to carry you. But I think the Sox could have won without AJ. Glad they had him, still an asshole haha
  22. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 1, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) White Sox are totally classless. There was no legit reason to throw at AJ there. And the meatheads love it because they never appreciated AJ when he was here. No AJ, no White Sox World Series. AJ is better off with a real contender and the Sox are stuck with Flowers who not only can't hit but doesn't handle the pitching staff as well as AJ did and hasn't been any better throwing runners out. I'd say AJ gets the last laugh and the Sox just showed why they are the pathetic losers they have become. That's a bit of a stretch. If AJ was still in San Fran or some other team in 2005, I think the Sox still could have won.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:44 PM) How good you are has nothing to do with what kind of leader you are. Sure helps though. Not a lot of bench player leaders that aren't 10+ year vets. Which Gordon may be someday but it won't be for the Sox like Hawk wants.
