QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) Who was the manager when the team had a record of 23-10? Was he not getting the best out of them at that point? This post... lol Yeah OUR bad Robin has a long history of winning... how short sighted of us.

This team is a mental pile and the coaching staff obviously has no clue how to fix it. -

I don't really know who's fault it completely is... but whatever they touch seems to turn to dog S*** -
I'm starting to think these guys are really trying to be competitive to save their jobs... we are doing nothing but losing but they are trying to add add add.

It's where we have been for about 4-5 years....

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) It's so nice to have this Stoney as the Sox color announcer. He is so 'scared' of Hawk's moods. To get this comfy Stone is awesome and refreshing. I love Stone and this new play by play guy! Hawk is great, but Hawk should be ashamed of himself for being crabby so many nights. So you enjoy Stone and Jason's "Great Comedy" and banter when the white sox have lost 19 of 25? and are getting their S*** pounded yet again. It annoys me... even though I can't blame them for trying I guess I will get to the point where I don't care anymore and maybe the will be start sounding funny. This is exactly why I like Hawk he would be pissed like me.

Why are we still sending Matt Albers out there?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) Because his name rhymes with Cat? must be it -
Is this some kind of sick joke? I feel bad for the guy... it's almost criminal.
-
They are really making me laugh... This team has a bunch of horrible pitchers... a manager that can't win... an offense that usually runs at putrid. But lets keep adding people! Wow
-
Don't worry guys doing the same thing over and over... will eventually work.

We do seem to be the cure for what ails... but when it comes to the central division we have been that cure for about 5 years now.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) What is with your f***ing boner for Jim Leyland. Stop it already. He's not coming back and he wouldn't even make my top 5 list anyway. Isn't Leyland 95 years old? Wow he is only 71....

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Exactly. Plus a huge part of managing is something we never ever see. It is what goes on when the game isn't happening. This is where I feel Robin doesn't have the ability. His strategic decisions... meh.. some are bad but I don't think it means all that much. What I see are players that in key situations... clench up. I'd like to think that the ability to get players to relax and perform is where managers they make their impact. Here are my ideas! Play little side games... keep track of the team "Leaders" at getting the runner in from 3rd. Give fun little awards like a case of your favorite beer... Maybe if you win that week you get to pick a players intro music for a game on the homestand. Get to play a nice golf course. Someone has to bring you some Dairy Queen if you win... Do they do s*** like that? I don't know but these guys just look so tense all the time.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) Other than the support of the entire baseball team? What does that even mean...the support of being a 4th place team the past 4 years? Oh you are right hell we could slide into 5th place. Seriously lol

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) Maybe tomorrow you will walk in your office and they will tell you that it's been great but you have to go. The company hasn't done as well as hope YTD, and even though it really isn't on you, they have to send some sort of message. I'm sure you would understand, and would expect the company to start doing better as soon as you walk out the door. The funny thing is, the Sox still ARE doing better at this point than most predicted before the season started. If you really could pin walking guys and not getting guys on 3rd base with no outs on the manager, I would be all for canning him. But for all the people who blast old school ways and use of stats, firing the manager when the players suck is the oldest of old school. There isn't a manager in whatever field they are in on this board who thinks they should be fired if the people working under them can't do the job. Last year a lot of people picked us to win the division and we finished 4th. This year we appear headed to a similar result (without the expectations). Why keep ventura? What's to lose by trying someone else? For one it will allow us to see if the manager really is making any difference in this teams problems.

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) Note that it was Kenny Williams, not Robin Ventura, that banned Drake LaRoche from the clubhouse. Also note that Kenny Williams and Chris Sale are both hotheads and have had an antagonistic relationship from day one. I'd love to see Maddon try to "control" Sale and Kenny. In addition to philosophically not agreeing that managers have much of an effect on team performance, I think that it would be disruptive to fire Ventura in the middle of the season. I would be much more comfortable with JR firing Ventura this winter. If it were up to me, I'd give this current cast of characters another year. If the Sox are still mired in mediocrity in July of 2017, I'd strongly consider holding a firesale, loading up on the best young ML-ready talent that I could, and firing Kenny Williams. That would address the real, systemic problems that have plagued this franchise. Disrupt what exactly?
-
No one thinks it's all on Ventura... but at this point something needs to change to light a fire under this team. This team just looks so tense and under pressure all the time.

Someone who actually wants to be a manager.

It's worth a shot.. but somehow I don't see it happening.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) A real baseball team would have never hired Ventura 5 years ago. A real baseball team would have never given him an extension. A real baseball team would make a change in the middle of another under performing season. A losing homestand should give Renteria the job. Period. Ventura didn't even want the job..... -

Someone has to go on the coaching staff period. It's not just that they are about go to 6-18 since their good start. It's that they are playing important divisional games and just looked horrendous. -
