including his first at bad tonight 6-53... .111 batting average. -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) He continues to be the worst broadcaster in the city. Yeah we get it you hate Hawk....

This guy is making some horrible pitches. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) you must listen to the game on mute You must not be listening to the game period.... Hawk used to go off on the umpires. But a few years ago Selig and some others talked to him and he has calmed since... and more and more each year. For example he used to go on TIRADES about Joe West. Now he will maybe mention once in a casual manner "Not to Mess with Joe West" He has been way more mellow about the umpries for a few years now.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) Yeah! He should be talking about each players golf game like a real announcer! I've haven't heard talk about a players golf game in like 7 years... I miss it.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 10:23 PM) Hawk's complained several times about umpires in his few games this season...not to mention the only thing he still had going - his homerun call - is now 0 for 2016 on being able to tell when a ball will clear the fence within 30 seconds of it landing. Jason had me today with "Matt Like Reflexes" after the double play. Hawk might have said "he missed that one" if that's what you mean by complaining about umpires... Which isn't what people are referring to - they are referring to the epic rants of years past... which to be honest I kind of enjoyed because it was venting the same frustration I felt. Hawk has been quite nice to umpires the past couple... he has changed his tone a lot.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 09:26 PM) Gone are the days of comparing every single player to Ted Williams and Carl Yasztremski because you are too senile to name a player from the current generation. Gone are the days of saying every player is the " best in the American League " because you are too old to think of a different adjective Gone are the days of blaming the umpires every single day just because your bosses didn't put together a good enough team I actually haven't heard Hawk really complain about umpires for nearly two full seasons... I'll ad "Gone is originality"

I think the new guy is good... in some ways he is better than hawk... on other ways hawk is better. To act like he is just hands down, better than Hawk... I don't see it at all. Hawk mirrors my emotions in the game.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) A lot of people have been really tired of Hawk for a long time, I don't think the sweep has anything to do with the sentiment that Jason is better than Hawk. I think some people have sure... but the timing of the post to me was no coincidence.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 04:48 PM) I can see how Hawk during a bad season or bad games would bug some Sox fans, but the wins? He is tremendous. I think the fail of the sentiment of this thread is that we sweep Texas and somehow the pizza is better, the sky is more blue, the pillow softer... the announcer better. It's just funny how people feel the need for absolutes... If Hawk were announcing the sweep I'm sure it the thread would have been "Hawk never retire!"
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) The Boy Wonder is in the early lead for manager of the year. ol Dick just can't resist. I will say I haven't seen many head scratching moments this year... Today I thought they almost gambled to long with leaving Latos in too long. But he got that nice double play.

pitching, defense... late insurance runs. Definitely can be a winning formula. -
Ehh... Benetti is fine - I don't have a problem with him. I miss Hawk sometimes though. It's weird though.... when the team wins how their announcer suddenly is better also.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Exactly. A higher batting average later in the season will hide a prolonged slump better. It is easier to see a slump early in the season where you don't have the large body of work to hide it in. If you are batting .300 in 500 AB and go 4/40 your average drops only to .285. If you are hitting .300 in 20 AB an then go 4/40, it drops your average to .167, despite having the same slump. That's why batting average is irrelevant to level of slump. Sure, fine under 200 doesn't mean that much... I still bet Abreu in his entire baseball career as rarely been under 200... even early in the season. So yeah maybe it's not as large an issue as other things - but I don't think it's "meaningless" However that was what I found before I had a chance to keep researching... and when I did from what I saw and the ARTICLE ON CSN CHICAGO found. It was indeed his worse slump in MLB.... which was my point to begin with. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) If this is his worse slump ever and the team is able to weather it with an 11-6 record, White Sox fans should be thrilled. Sure - but this thread was about his struggles. Yeah its nice that we are winning and he is struggling. -

read the article and the rest of the stats.... the "under 200" thing is not the only thing there.... The simple question is "Is this his worse slump ever" If you look at the game logs it appears to be... There has never been a stretch where he had so few hits in so many at bats Not if he will suck forever or any other noise. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) I don't think you actually understand statistics from reading this thread. That is the point. I don't think you understand statistics from reading this thread... I guess you don't think the writers in the article didn't understand statistics either... I gave you statistics and so did they. I guess it's a message board though so you can't admit that you were wrong - unwritten rule of message boards... I guess we have to agree to disagree. -
4 shutouts this early... not done since 1947... I think they said.

Huh? lol How is it not immaterial that he has been under .200 for 4 straight days.. which also coincides from what appears to be the worse slump of his career (the worst I could find before was 8-39) But lets be honest it won't matter what evidence I give you. Here is a link for you also http://www.chatsports.com/chicago-white-so...-slump-12415245 -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) What was his prior worst slump? Well for example... before this year he only had a batting avg under 200 for ONE day in his career in two years... headed for his 4th consecutive. He is 4 for his 40 I can't find anything even close to that level last year.. haven't looked at all the games the year before - EDIT: I found I believe to be his worse slump before this - rookie year 8-39 Again - not saying he won't be okay - but he has not struggled quite like this before. -

You can look it up if you want... Abreu has never struggled like this. Not saying he won't come out of it... but people acting like "this has happened before" No it hasn't -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) I do. He has had plenty of one week stretches where he looks clueless. The other day they were saying he has never batted below .200. So yeah I kind of know what you mean... BUT I have never seen him look THIS bad. Chances are he will be fine.... -
If Robin said that I like it... if Abreu wants to truly be great he has to learn how to get counts.
