QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Well obviously, that's what an rational person who didn't have emotional attachments to him would do. But Theo is obsessed with Schwarber. He's his "told you so!" guy. He refuses to believe everyone who says he's just a DH. He is on record calling him "Babe f***ing Ruth". Theo is more likely to trade Rizzo or Bryant than he is Schwarber. You can make fun of Theo all you want, but Schwarber's 0.0 bWAR in 2017 is mighty sexy

If the Sox think Dee Gordon could play well in CF he could be an interesting candidate

Arizona Fall League Preview - White Sox prospects

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) You named two pitchers and " a bunch " of rule 5 players. Who are the bunch anyway? And the point you missed is when was the last time a prospect position player jumped from A to AAA? Pitchers and position players are very different. Sorry man but you missed the point. The poster I was responding to clearly emphasized the word "ANYONE" in his post. as for the rule 5 players just this year there is Miguel Díaz Luis Torrens Allen Córdoba Kevin Gadea -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) No one is skipping AA. Let's not be crazy. Yes he had a great year, but in all seriousness, when is the last time you saw ANYONE skip, AA completely? Chris Sale Carlos Rodon and there are a bunch of recent rule 5 players if you want to count those -
QUOTE (SouthWallace @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Any expansion/realignment talk that reduces the DH is a non-starter for me. Universal DH! (no one really wants to see their starter batting 3+ times per game. get real.) Sort out the Oakland and Tampa stadium/attendance issues first and then we can talk about adding teams. If we are adding, Montreal is numero uno. Portland is worth exploring. I draw a blank as to where else is feasible. I am absolutely 100% vehemently against the dissolution of the AL/NL as I do NOT want to deal with the jackass northsiders in the same division etc etc. I also hate the two Wildcards. 3 divisions + WC or 4 divisions, no WC - please. The best part of the whole NLCS happened yesterday when Yu Darvish was at the plate. Or how about the Mat Albers double last year? That kind of fun doesn't happen with the DH. Plus the DH takes away a lot of the strategy. So yes there are people who like to see pitchers hit.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) The White Sox do not have surplus of pitching prospects. They need more actually. This is the time to stockpile pitching (even without a shortage). The Sox are also not short on infielders. Martes, pitcher, Astros, is my candidate. Martes, pitcher, Astros, is not a candidate.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) I think it was a player light as well, but you can't ask for much more than the best hitting and pitching prospect in the game. Anything more would have probably been seen as highway robbery by the Sox. The Sawx would have been crucified by other teams if they gave up more than that, despite Sale's incredible value. Personally, I think that the Sox should have probably received Benintendi as well. That is how valuable Sale was to me that offseason. The Sox were never going to get fair value for Sale. With all the hype Benintendi gets on this board and elsewhere. It's pretty interesting how Benintendi had almost 3x the plate appearances as Moncada this year but his bWAR and fWAR are only about 1 number higher.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 05:50 AM) I know it's weird to think about, but we have to remember that "market value" means "no surplus value." So what a team is willing to pay for a "market value" asset is literally a matter of how much they are willing to OVERPAY for the asset given their current situation in the standings. Getting anything significant for a "market value" asset is a good deal, and largely depends more on the context around the teams involved that it does on one person's "skills" as a negotiator. I guess I should have phrased that better. But there is a huge difference between market value during free agency and in the middle of the season. Robinson was one of the BPA at a position that every team could use help. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) I just see those -2 points as being spoiled from the Sale/Eaton/Q deals. We got a 1st round pick we wanted the previous year for an expensive closer we didn't need a reliever coming off 60 good innings. Veteran scrap heap starters aren't worth anything either. The Sox got Puckett + for a veteran rental scrap heap starter in Melky. The Sox got Cordell for a veteran rental in Swarzak. The Sox got Gillespie for a LOOGY. Based on those 3 returns I'd say without reservation that my view isn't spoiled from the Sale/Eaton/Q deals. It simply wasn't a good return relative to any other deal Hahn made. If Melky gets Puckett + then Frazier alone should equal Clarkin. I don't have any doubt the Sox would have benefited from holding on to Kahnle and letting him close. Also Davidson isn't "expensive" he's a market value closer. -

I've liked every move that Hahn has made except for the Yankees deal -
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) So far we've seen a bad bat.. Let's hope the scouting was right coming out of college An OPS of over 800 doesn't equal a bad bat, especially at the catcher position.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) Hell... maybe it isn't so asinine to pine for him to have a mediocre season this upcoming year - allowing us to pluck him early in the second round... ala the surprise Hanson 2016 third round pickup. Collins was first Burdi was a comp Hansen was the third pick by the White Sox but as a second rounder

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) Honestly, if Rick Hahn thinks our window to compete starts in 2019, it might darn well make sense to move one of those guys for a Michael Conforto type, and that would be a better move long-term than signing Avi for comparable money. It would take quite a bit more than one of those guys to get Conforto

I thought the tank was on when Avi fell, but then I saw that Merrifield hadn't even touched 3rd yet and my heart sank. Then Cain had to go and make my day worse by getting doubled off

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 06:04 PM) Yeah, Engel is a negative WAR player, at -0.4 fWAR in 71 games. Leury is at a +1.1 fWAR in 87 games. Leury was pretty good before the injury, and not as much thereafter. He's also got much more positional versatility than pretty much anyone else in the roster, and is a switch hitter. On balance, if it were a choice between Engel and Leury, I'd probably go with Leury, given that Engel simply can't hit enough to be a starter. I'm also not convinced that Engel is an overall better player than Tilson, but for Tilson being made of glass. I do like competition, and I would not count out any of our cavalcade of middling OF options for next season. I'd let Tilson, Engel, and Liriano duke it out for CF; I'd let Anderson and Leury duke it out @ SS for next season. And that's a major flaw of WAR. Leury has looked like a complete armature in CF while Engel has looked good. The metrics will tell you they've been equal and that couldn't be farther from the truth.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 07:01 AM) KLaw recently said Singer has huge reliever risk He seems to play it safe in his analysis of most pitchers compared to other prospect evaluators. Every starting pitch going into the draft is at risk of becoming a reliever.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) No word on return. Orioles were close to acquiring him so there was a market. Hope for the best Do we know for a fact that he cleared waivers? Texas would have had priory over Baltimore on a claim

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) When do Moncada, Giolito and Lopez officially lose "prospect" status? Yoan needs 11 more at bats to exceed the threshold of 130. Giolito needs 23 to exceed the threshold of 50 IP. Lopez has exceeded 50 IP already. -
What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
credezcrew24 replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
This trade still blows my mind. Put me down as someone who thinks that Kahnle alone will have a higher career WAR than Rutherford
