Weird to have an offer out for Ohtani and the next day not be linked to Soto. Like, if you have a legit package out there for one why wouldn't you be connected to the other?

The Padres were actually going to pay his full salary from 23-25 ($13 mill each) in the Soto deal with the Nats paying remainder of this season. So Padres would have only saved like $7mill in that deal on the Hosmer contract.

It would already be a win for him if he accepts due to state income taxes. They get taxed based on where they play the games. So you'd be trading what, 100 games about in California for games out East?

I'm definitely not opposed to some sort of shake up/re-allocation of resources.
