QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) has anyone ever gone to the winter meeting???? No and I don't really see the point.

"Rick, Andrew Friedman on line 1 for you."

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Probably play Olt lol I forgot Freese too actually lol

Angels have joined the race for Lawrie. I seriously don't know what the Sox will do if they don't get him. Sign the Japanese 3B?

So far the meetings are starting out slow. I think last year there were more trades than like the previous 5 years or so combined (or something crazy like that).

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:28 PM) By far and its not even close. Its funny because Quintana is probably the closest behind Sale with his numbers and extra year of control over Sale.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) I'd possibly put Melky in that tier as well but I agree for the most part. It really is a shame that the rest of the team sucks because the core that the Sox have is absolutely elite. Yeah I'd put him in that last part. "Maybe a couple relievers...and Melky."

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) I just keep assuming the difference between Heyward and Upton is going to be significant. I also figure Cespedes is going to get a contract based upon six months of production, which is tough to gel. Funny thing is, prior to going to the Mets, I thought he'd be a potential value "big contract" but then he blew up and I expect the opposite to happen. Nice thing about Jason and Justin is their relative ages. Annually, I don't think it would be too much more. But He wouldn't be a problem after he opted out around his age 30/31 age season to try and get another 6-7 year deal.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) Agreed. It seems like there is a HUGE gap between the talent levels on the team. Like you said, there are a few guys that are absolutely elite and then the rest are terrible. Agree. If I were a fan of another team and I looked at the Sox roster, outside of the obvious proven (not counting prospects) ones (Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Abreu, Eaton), I wouldn't want anyone else on that roster. Maybe Melky and a couple relievers but that's it.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) I'm quietly on the Heyward and Cespedes bandwagon... Me too. Would rather have Cespedes than Upton, but Heyward over Cespedes.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) How much / what will the difference in cost / years be between Gordon and Upton? Is Upton going to get more money and more years while Gordon provides actual better production (kind of like he has past few years)? I presume Royals are going to ensure they won't be beat. I wanna know what the difference in money is going to be between Upton and Heyward. If you're going to after Upton, might as well pay a little more Heyward with opt outs every year after year 4 or 5 of the deal. I've been pushing that on here for a while.

What if it doesn't even relate to baseball lol

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 6m6 minutes ago While not expected to increase payroll, hearing White Sox still aim to be competitive instead of starting a major rebuild. Can't wait to acquire average talent Basically. Probably get Cabrera, trade for Lawrie and that's it.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) What about moves like Cahill resigning with the Cubs? Doesn't feel like it deserves its own thread, but still worth a mention somewhere. There's a thread dedicated to Winter Meetings Day1

Dodgers acquire Chapman.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) For the life of me, I don't understand this obsession with moving Eaton. Why in the world would you sign a $100m+ outfielder just to cancel the gain out by getting rid of a similarly valuable outfielder who makes 80% less money? It makes no sense. He's our second best hitter and happens to be our leadoff guy.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) To be clear here, draft picks can be traded after the World Series, and can't ever be PTBNL before the World Series. The rules were changed last year. Ah thanks. I knew something was changed in the rule.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) I'm good with a thread each day. I'll be checking in to see if we're doing anything. Works going to be tough this week. Luckily I have half days today and Wednesday.
-
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) To me Avi for Lawrie makes a lot of sense. Maybe we have throw in a pitching prospect too, but shouldn't have to be anyone in our top 10. Beck would probably be ideal, but maybe a guy like wheeler, jaye, or Lowry. Jaye was left off the 40-man correct? He'd probably be a guy to include since it's likely he could go in the rule 5 draft Thursday.
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:56 AM) So if the Sox sign Upton, what is the likely scenario with Garcia? Do they trade him? Does he have options left to be sent down? He has one.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 07:53 AM) Yes. If ultimately they sign Upton and lose the pick, the Shark deadline "trade" would be for a very highly paid Justin Upton, which also gets Avi off the field. So even those still pissed Shark wasn't traded at the deadline would have to back down a bit. Yeah and it's not like we wouldn't lose a draft pick if we signed Upton after trading him. We would lose second round still.

Take it for what's it's worth but Bruce Levine mentioned that Robertson is on the block.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:52 AM) Are you really going to ignore the moves where Billy got surplus value? Come on. Adding Reddick will cost the Sox alot more. I'd love to have Reddick but over the summer supposedly Billy told Reddick he wasn't going anywhere so now where looking at over paying for Reddick to pry him away from Oakland. Reddick only has one year of control I believe and Beanies pretty random. Though I'd think they'd probably get a better deal from another team than from us.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:39 AM) Indians and Tigers are rumored to have interest in Lawrie as well. Trading Lawrie is looking more like a classic Billy move where the A's get more than expected. I'm starting to wonder about this... Aim for Reddick as well and sweeten the deal.
