White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Anything less than $10 million for Alexei is a good deal for the Sox IMO. He gets a lot of crap from people on here, but he's still one of the better overall shortstops in the American League. Plus there really is no read yin-house option if we are trying to compete. With a rebuild approach, I really wouldn't mind Saladino there but they won't toss him out there with a young 3B and young 2B. -
White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Bob Sacamano replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Who is going to play shortstop now? Could Alexei still return on a cheaper contract? Yes. I bet any money he is the shortstop next season. Anything less than 1 year 9 mill makes this worth it since we would save money. I'm going to guess 1/6 (7 mill including the buyout). -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 08:52 PM) So wanting to trade for Derek Norris is "chasing heroes". You're really stretching that definition to its limits. Yeah I don't get that either. I also don't get the comp to Phegley.

http://calltothepen.com/2015/11/01/baltimo...r-adam-laroche/ He definitely is a fit for a team that already has some pop in the lineup and a hole at first. His defense can definitely be more valued on a team like the Orioles than his bat.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) The White Sox seem to be waiting until the last minute to announce what they are going to do with Alexei. Makes me think they either trying to get him to sign a lesser contract. It is at least worth a shot. Agree. Deadline is tomorrow night correct?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) The Cubs will likely get one of those pitchers (top five free agent pitchers). Less likely, they might trade one of their good young players (Javier Baez?) in a package for a top starting pitcher. It will be interesting to see if the Chicago White Sox even consider trading Chris Sale, or if the Oakland A's will listen to offers for Sonny Gray. Tim Kurkjian, espn.com I've said it many times on here before and I'll say it again, not until July 2017 at the earliest.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) MLB absolutely starts slow. Wish it was like NFL and NHL, but winter meetings are tradition. Yeah on the bright side, the Winter Meetings are only about a month away! I have enough on my plate to keep me busy until then (and again, my finals are during them!).

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) I love it and wish it could get started the day after the World Series. Hahn has so much work to do to right this disaster, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do. I really hope we look back on this offseason as the period of time Hahn began our turn around with shrewd FA pickups and trades Even if it could, no one would sign today. It's not like someone is going to sign as soon as they are eligible anyway. Baseball off-season seems like the slowest one to develop out of the major professional sports. I get your excitement in it starting though because this roster needs some work done.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Indeed. With the 40 at 34 and some of the 34 being made up of Mike Olt, Rob Brantly, Davidson and Leury Garcia the team has a bunch of room where they can add. Carroll Beck and Turner are other expendable pieces.

White Sox sign Lombardozzi to minor league deal
Bob Sacamano replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 01:24 PM) Can't say I understand this move. I can't understand why people can't understand moves like this. Even our minor league teams needs bench players. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 07:22 AM) We still owe Alexei for overperforming his original deal (in the eyes of JR). No way he's gone. I don't think anyone is disagreeing. He will be here but his option won't get picked up (or shouldn't any way).

Good teams take advantage of mistakes. Whenever other teams make mistakes against the Sox, they usually s*** the bed.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Right, because he still was recovering from his broken leg three years prior. It's not stupid of GMs to think that his broken leg has ruined his career at that point To be fair again, going into free agency the year prior, he had a strong year. No one wanted to pay him to just DH and give up a draft pick. Not like he struggled, signed late and then struggled again.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 1, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) I just browsed the last 6 years, Pierre/Dunn/Laroche/Kotsay/De Aza And we are making proclamations based on this bunch and their sample size In regards to the OP, I don't fault the Sox front office for not making a run at Morales. He certainly did not look like he had anything left after his short stints with the twins and Mariners. Good for the Royals for getting what they got out of him, but I didn't see many people wringing their hands from Laroche over Morales. To be fair, his season literally started after the draft. No Spring Training. Not even a minor league stint.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) Reed has done OK this postseason. The real winners of the Reed/Davidson trade: the Mets

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 31, 2015 -> 08:21 PM) All you guys make Charlie Brown seem like an optimist. For those saying we still would 've sucked , want to take a stab at how many more good position players , relievers, starting pitching it would take to be around 10 games over .500 ? Agree. We would have been better with him. Around the deadline, look at our record. With Morales, we likely have more wins and are ahead of a few more teams and we go out and they go ahead and bring someone in at the deadline. Who really knows what would have happened.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) Anyone think Tim Anderson is basically Dee Gordon with a little more pop and a little less speed? We wouldn't mind that at all especially if he can handle short.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 12:10 PM) By all accounts, Desmond had an atrocious season last year for a guy coming off 3 straight 4+ win seasons. He failed to reach the 20/20 club for the first time since 2011 and was a butcher with the glove. I still think the Nationals might offer a QO to him, but does anybody think he is one of the best bounce back candidates of this FA class? His second half line bounced back quite a bit to the tune of .262/.331/.446 which is above average production from the SS spot. There is a great deal of risk involved in a long term contract with him, but if he could be had for $14-15 MM a year over 4 years, I think it's something the Sox should contemplate. That would give you the ability to slide Anderson to 2nd or move Desmond to DH if his glove continues to slide. Or even slide him to third if we still have no one there.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 30, 2015 -> 02:28 AM) I like Derek Norris but why would San Diego trade him? They have locked up for another four years and catchers are hard to come by. Preller is going to try and compete again and moving Norris would only make that more difficult. They have another MLB ready catcher who they may be willing to let play and could savea little money and add some prospects moving Norris.

Just end this in 4 and get the off-season rolling.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 11:43 PM) Olt is a young 27. Are we all OK with letting him start next year and see what we've got? Remember, Gillaspie was a starter for the Sox for a year and change ... Is it Olt time considering those 2 mammoth blasts he hit last September? No

Justin Morneau or another year of LaRoche
Bob Sacamano replied to klaus kinski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 29, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) It doesn't make sense because we have to be building towards 2017-2019. Giving those at-bats to a Morneau over someone like Avi, Olt, Davidson (or even Cabrera, with a younger player playing LF/RF) makes little or no sense because we're just wasting those opportunities when they could benefit a "prospect/suspect" who actually could be a part of the future of the organization. Now you can certainly make the argument ALL of those guys might have no future, or even Trayce Thompson, but that's a different argument. If you at least believe they have a "reasonable" chance to succeed, then you have to go with the younger players. Problem is we don't have anyone in the upper minors knocking on the door who deserve those at bats.
