  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) Sox lineup https://twitter.com/ChiTribKane/status/650396984038268928 Fancy handwriting. Wow...Avi officially down to 7th behind the third catcher Brantly lol
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) ...and now it's 11-10, Angels. Unreal. Hell of a game
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) One thing just came to mind... I could really see the team making a QO to Samardjiza, who then walks. Then a trade of Quintana for their cornerstone 3B or C, plus a lot more pieces. Then the coup de grace... The re-signing of Mark Buehrle. I'm for that on a multi-year deal (he slides into 5 spot when Danks is gone in 2017) assuming he doesn't get a QO. If he receives one, pass.
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) I don't care about the fact that the pick is protected. I just want to pick as high as possible. I'd rather the Sox not sign anyone with a QO attached regardless of where they pick. "High as possible" at this point is 8th I believe. I'm going Sunday so I'd like for them to be 1.5 games ahead of Detroit so it doesn't matter that I see a win or not.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) i just want, for my selfish reason, to get the protected 10 and show to the rest of the sox fans that they will not sign what is needed ..... instead they MAY go and get another retread. I don't think they will sign anyone either, but I like for them to be able to give up a second round pick instead of a first if they decided to surprise everyone.
  6. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) The 1964 sox won 99 games with tremendous pitching and hardly any hitting. Maybe that could work again. We're gonna need to focus on defense first than before hitting.
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Park factor accounts for the quality of your pitching and offense though. Exactly my point. It may seem unfriendly but that is more of the quality of our staff and lineup.
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) The Cell isn't as big a hitters park as you think, good for HR but not much else. Played middle of the pack this year for offense. Dimension wise it is small. Factor could be our pitching staff despite Shark and our anemic offense.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) for discussion sake, at what cost for a 1 yr contract. I'd probably go as high as ten to try to entice him. Or less with incentives. Sounds like a lot but it would just be a one year deal. I also figure they will bring Alexei back cheap and after this year they no longer pay Jeff Keppinger, which was 4.5 each year for last 3.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) I can squint and see a scenario where Wieters takes a one year deal to try to go back out in 2016 looking for a home run on the free agent market. That is a pretty typical Boras tactic. Agree. Boras clients have done this before. What better place to rebuild value as a hitter than the cell? If he doesn't get a QO, I'd offer him a one-year deal if he's willing to take a deal like that to rebuild value to try again next off-season.
  11. At the very least he'd be moved to left and Thompson would play center with Garcia or Cabrera in right (I use "or" because who knows if they keep Avi or not or move Melky to DH if they just dumped LaRoche).
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong (don't know where to really look for this) but in the years Heyward struggled with the bat, wasn't he always positive WAR-wise due to his great defense? (I also know that WAR isn't the end all be all)
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) 8. Padres 73-84 9. Tigers 73-84 10. White Sox 74-83 11. Mariners 75-83 Rajai Davis bunted on his own in the 9th in a 7-6 game, with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out. Popped out. Playing for that 8th pick I guess haha I hope the Sox are 1.5 games up over the Tigers in the reverse standings so if we win 2/3, we still finish ahead.
  14. If 1.5 years of Samardzija (along with a half season of Hammel) got Addison Russell and Billy McKinney, then 5 years of Quintana should command the world. Aim for 2 MLB everyday players with success and 3+ years of control each or a package of 3 position player top prospects near MLB-ready and a top pitching prospect.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) Sure seems like he's won himself a starting spot for next year Guy can run, play defense and take a walk. I definitely would put him ahead of Avi. I haven't completely given up on Avi yet though. Would like to see him DH to get him out of the outfield and out of the 3-5 spots (hit him 6 or 7, hopefully a new 3B can hit in the middle of the order with Cabrera back in the 2-spot and Abreu third).
  16. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) can you believe KW said he was going to be a 300 hitter/ 30 hr/ 30 SB guy? And actually toyed with the idea of him playing center? Come to think of it, I think he did play a few games out there for us in 2013
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) It will be very interesting to see when the league decides he is eligible. If they don't make him eligible early 8 big spenders can't sign him. Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and Royals who exceeded their limits this year and Angels, D-backs, Rays, Red Sox and Yankees who got the max penalty of 2 years of not signing anyone for over $300,00 for 2 years. If they make him eligible soon as they can the Cubs Dodgers Giants and Royals will all still be eligible. Sox really have no reason not to go all out next summer. Hopefully there are some 19/20 year old Moncada types somewhere.
  18. QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) If Phegley ever has another year half as good as this one I'll eat my hat. Semien is still the only guy I'll miss from that deal - and I'll miss him plenty. -I agree with this. Phegley is putting those numbers up on their bench - very similar to Soto's -Bassitt I doubt turns into much of anything. Probably 5th starter or reliever (probably a swing guy) and we got an arm back for him who will probably be a reliever (Ynoa) so that part is meh -Ravelo had no spot as Abreu is at first and has only played like 50 games this year As long as our compensation pick is solid, I'd say it was worth it. But that's just my opinion personally.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) That wouldn't be good from a draft/slot allowance perspective. With Rodon not pitching the rest of the way, I'm cool with the Sox losing every game the rest of the way 9-8 with Sale and Q staying healthy and Abreu/Eaton/Trayce/Sanchez/Avi hitting well. We're 4 games behind the Marlins who have been better lately and play the Rays and Phillies this week. They'd need to win every game and Sox would have to lose every game to finish with the 7th pick. It certainly is possible but I think the Sox will finish with 8th pick.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) This is the most realistic thing I have seen. I agree. Depending on what they do at third, I see this team finishing with a top 10 draft pick for 2017.
  21. With Martinez not signing yet, does anyone think that he may have a hand-shaken agreement with a team to wait until next summer to sign so a team can sign him and a bunch of others without the bigger market teams able to make signings? Obviously he'd have to be promised a lot to put off signing that long but I also feel like he should have signed by now so who knows.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) Yeah, as much as I love baseball I lost interest in September for sure. Once you KNOW your team is out of it it does change things, for me at least. I need meaningful baseball. Agree. And before these past few years, we were fortunate enough to watch them playing meaningful games for a while (minus 2011 and 2007 really). These meaningless games in September (heck even August and July and even sooner when you know they are bad and not going anywhere) are getting tiresome and hard to support.
  23. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 07:50 AM) I was thinking Rodon would take Shark's spot. Back to the days of having a crappy rotating #5 starter! Huh? Rodon is already in the rotation lol Johnson is likely replacing Samardzija in the rotation.
  24. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Well the only way to acquire better hitters overnight without trading away pitching would be to sign free agents. Go get Cespedes, Zobrist, Heyward or someone else. I doubt they sign any of those guys. I also doubt they move any of our prospects worth a damn for any hitters. Don't really know how we are going to fill the many holes we have in the lineup.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) i really do understand that, but if this season is a result of his now playing stats.... and with his agent. i really don't want to see the sox be laiden contract that they will not can move. no thanks If it wasn't for Boras I'd think there was a chance he'd take a one-year deal somewhere to rebuild value but like I said Boras is his agent.
