My family has been parking on the street in front of Schaller's pump for a long time now. We've never received a parking ticket. It's with I a Mike's walk.

Not too much of a problem. If one them are pitching and you are debating on going, go

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) If Flowers is really bad, they'll trade for someone, or go with whomever of Soto, Smith, Brantly or Nieto seems most likely to be better. And it is impossible to know right now which it would be. I would say Soto is starting games by June, whoever we trade for in July.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) When your bench is Nieto, Leury, Sierra, and Paulie, platoons are kind of tough. Its ironic you say that since two of those guys were platooned for the most part (Sierra/De Aza and Dunn/Paulie). He just meant in general over the years but your example was from a team that actually used them.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) Conor had a good year last year, at least a good first few months, but 3B has to be an upgrade priority for Hahn IMO. Too bad they couldn't expand the deal with Oakland to add Donaldson. He would be worth giving up a couple of decent prospects. Wasn't Donaldson traded before the trade though?

I assume if Gillaspie got hurt, then it would be Bonifacio/Beckham

Samardzija said he's not looking for "top dollar'' in

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) Then answer this. If he plays out the season, really likes playing for the White Sox but they offer him $20 million less than another team he has never played for, so any of this "getting to know each other" would start all over again, do you really think he would sign with the White Sox? The fact is, he says he has to "get to know" the White Sox, but when he is a free agent, unless he signs with a team he has already played with, he already knows more about the White Sox, than he does that team. It is about the money. The White Sox may be able to be short, but only slightly. You don't risk what he is risking carrying this out to free agency if money isn't one of the highest priorities. He can sign right now for more money than he or a couple of generations of his family will ever need. All these "reading between the lines" posts are fantasy. He said he doesn't want to discuss a contract during the season. He wants to be a free agent. That isn't a guy who seems destined to stay. Not disagreeing I was just answering whoever I quoted. Just because he says its not about the money doesn't mean he should prove it and sign now. He can sign a month or two from now. But I agree that it is about the money. -

QUOTE ( @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) I'm calling BS on this. If he wasn't looking for "top dollar" in a contract, he would've signed an extension with the Sox already. Not true. He wants to get to know everyone longer and get a feel for the organization. That doesn't mean he should go sign a lesser deal now. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) Maddon said in an interview that if the pitcher is a decent hitter, he will do this alot. Something in the analytics shows it is more effective for scoring runs. I think he said to it depends on if they trust a pitcher stay longer in the game too. 5-7 possibly inning guy would hit 9th and someone able to possibly stay in the game longer 8th with someone in the 9 spot to get on base for top/middle of the order.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) I think the symbolism in naming an Opening Day starter is lost when the true Opening Day starter is starting Opening Day on the DL. I'm fine with Jeff getting the nod, especially if it works with the expected date of Sale's return. agree. If its not Sale then I don't care

QUOTE (glangon @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) A lot of overhype here about Hawkins. If he tears up AA and AAA then he'll be in for a September call up. Trayce Thompson also had a good spring and i'd expect to see him before Hawkins. They also seem keen on Beltre as well. If the injuries get really bad and we don't explore waivers or trades, then you may see Hawkins but reality is that he's still got time to prove himself and time to get ready for the majors in AA and AAA and it may hurt him more to call him up before he is ready like we did with Beckham. Agree. If Thompson is doing decent and there is an injury, he will be up.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Shows how thin the Sox still are. I really wouldn't mind Viciedo back on a cheaper, minor league deal just hoping we wouldn't need him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) As of now, this is the lineup with the Rodon/Austin battery. https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/580513335399092227 Royals https://twitter.com/Swanee54/status/5808267...2347136/photo/1 If it says Johnson is in the lineup, it should say "Beckham 6" right?

QUOTE (glangon @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 05:05 AM) 40 man roster is at 40. Jones will hit the 60 day DL which will take it down to 39. Assuming they go ahead with the following and there is strong indication that they will, then they need to find space for Albers, Micah Johnson, Soto and Penny. Shuck is already on the 40 man roster. So by my reckoning they need to trade or DFA 3 people off the 40 man roster. Surkamp, Cleto, Wilkins?

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 1, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Position players that impressed me OF Vlad Guerrero Jr, OF Franklin Reyes, SS Aramis Ademan, and OF Starling Heredia. After coming across and reading some articles on Guerrero Jr, I also want him signed by us. (Was also a big fan of his dad too)

"Beckham has played all three infield positions today. That is going to be one of the best deals Hahn has made this year."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 04:19 PM) Leury ought to work as an actual super-sub. Every one of those guys along with the OFs can sit one day a week. That's 5-6 games Leury could play a week, and that's assuming no one gets hurt which will happen at some poitn. Agree. Have him sit one game, play positions 4-9 the other 6 days. Get him into the game every 6 out of 7 games at different positions.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) I disagree. Guys always get dropped from the 40 man during the year, sometimes if they're struggling they can even be passed through waivers completely. Agree with you. I don't understand his logic. He's not expected back by what, July? Put him on 60 day dl and open up a spot for Albers or Penny.
-
This makes sense if they do expect Sale to pitch the 12th. You go 1-4 starters, a spot start from a long reliever (Penny?), and then Sale slides in at the front.

Surkamp on trading block, roster moves coming

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 23, 2015 -> 02:15 PM) Clearly the Sox will dump 2 of Kottras/Soto/Brantly. Now we come to Cleto - if Cleto's out of options, then he either makes the 25 or any team can grab him, right? We'll he's not making the 25 so obviously he goes. That leaves Carroll or Surkamp. Carroll was already waived once and no one bit. Waive him again. I prefer Surkamp anyway. Now I'm assuming Penny is viewed as a legit 5th starter. If he's not, he's on that boat out. I'm sure Soto has an opt-out date of April 1 or something. He'll be on the team though. -
The White Sox will not offer Hector Olivera
Bob Sacamano replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) The Yankees were given the opportunity to top the Red Sox‘s $31.5MM offer to Yoan Moncada, but declined. “We scouted him extensively for years,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said. “I feel we put him through the highest level of scouting and medical evaluation. I just wasn’t comfortable offering what we actually offered ($25MM), let alone going any higher.“ For now, the Red Sox will play Moncada at second base, but his eventual position will depend on Boston’s needs in the next couple of years. Sour grapes, or real concerns about his asking price not being lined up with the cost? Obviously, for Cashman, it will be a nightmare if he does go on to haunt the Yankees for six or more upcoming seasons. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...-to-aim-for-six Most recent update on Olivera situation. Can't believe he's expecting a 6 year offer at age 30 when James Shields could only get 4. James Shields isn't 30. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) I feel a trade for Yasmani Tomas to play 3B coming on, lol. NOT. Hawkins as a legit corner outfield power threat takes some of the pressure currently on Garcia...at least from a long-term perspective. Short-term, there's not much help in the outfield, other than a trade/waiver move or Trayce Thompson. Of course, there's probably a 50/50 chance we see Tim Anderson shifted out there (eventually)...but first they'll put him at 2B, barring any devastating injuries to Cabrera/Eaton/Garcia (or Micah Johnson) at the major league level. For as awesome as Courtney (and his beard ala Tyreese from Walking Dead) has been this ST, if he was on the Cubs doing this, there'd be almost as hype as there is for Soler and Russell IMO. I just looked at Bryant's numbers from last season. Would be HUGE for our system if Hawkins somehow puts up similar numbers to what he did. As I posted earlier in the thread, when he's ready (assuming Eaton and Garcia hit the way we expect), we may have to trade Avi or Melky or go with a rotating OF/DH since the DH spot would likely be open at that point. Also, I'd love for Thompson to have a breakout year as he is still just 24 (could be enticing to a team looking for a young OF in exchange for a catcher or another pitcher).

Brad Penny touching 94, leading candidate for 5th starter
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 22, 2015 -> 05:30 AM) and how much will he make if he makes the team?? Off the top of my head, I think it is $1.5 mill. A lot of guys this off-season signed similar minor league deals. -
If Hawkins hits like this the next two seasons in the minors and Avi and Eaton perform the way we expect them to and the DH spot is open, what do you guys think the OF situation will look like in 2017? Rotating OF/DH with Melky getting most DH at bats? I know a lot has to go right between now and then but it's fun to talk/think about.
