  1. I'm on the side that says trade for Heyward, but would request a 72-hour window to work out an extension. Trade Hawkins, one of Danish/Montas, and then whatever else needed to make it happen.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) I just want to clarify my vote in this poll. The question is "Do you want Victor Martinez?" My answer to that question is yes, assuming that we are defining "want" as "want Victor Martinez to play on the Chicago White Sox" and not "want Victor Martinez to send me a naked selfie." I absolutely want the former, I absolutely do not want the latter due to the bodily effects gravity plays on people. However, it's all cost dependent. I think Chicago White Sox mentioned 3/$48 as his limit; I agree with that. Really, anything much more than that on either end is getting too long and too expensive. This is a who has, for all intents and purposes, zero defensive value and he is getting older. Those types of players historically do not return a ton of value and are typically overpaid based on previous performances. I could do 3/48 on him. Maybe even try to front-load it a bit? He has been primarily a DH the past 4 seasons so how bad could his body be possibly wearing down? I'm sticking with wanting to add him to hit 4th and taking over as veteran leader.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Supposedly VMart is looking for a 4 year deal with a contender and at 36, I belieRasmusGVMart alone does not make the Sox a contender which means the Sox would need to get holes filled first so the Sox can go to VMart and show how they have taken steps to make the team better and tell VMart that he's the finishing touch to a Sox contender. I cannot stress this enough, do not get your hopes up Sox fans. Stop believing what idiots like Levine have written. DH is only one of the holes to fill on the Sox along with LF, two or maybe even three bullpen spots, 2B , possibly a starting pitcher and a case could be made for a defensive upgrade at 3B. That's a lot of holes to fill in one off season and a very hard sell to VMart. Sorry, I just don't see VMart being interested and that doesn't include the love spat between he and Sale. I think they end up with Rasmus on a one year deal so he can rebuild his value to enter free agency again next season. Eaton Alexei Abreu Martinez Garcia Rasmus Gillaspie Flowers second baseman
  4. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) I think you are correct with who bids the highest. I just read an article that speculates the contract could go 9 years and top 100M. I say go for it. He can't. He is under the restrictions of international spending
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Frontload the contract while you can afford it. You won't hate yourself as much later on and it might make him tradeable if things don't work out so well. I agree with this. Especially if they find other cheap 1-2 year deal kind of guys in other areas
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/arizona...ade-talk-110214 He has 3 years/40 million left on his contract. 31 years old, but has struggled the past 2 seasons since signing that extension. He is a lefty bat but I don't think he's that much of a upgrade than Flowers at this point. What are your guys thoughts? F*** no
  7. QUOTE (Scubadentist @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) what about bringing in Maddon?.....I'd love to see him replace Robin, but what about as bench coach?....though Parent gets a lot of accolades.... Really think he goes to LA
  8. Maybe he didn't ruin baseball for other team's fans but as a Sox fan after 2011, I never felt confident this team would do anything with him on it. Never hits with guys in scoring position. I didn't care if he hit 40 homers the year before, when guys were on base it was almost certain they wouldn't score with him hitting.
  9. Hasn't Heyward batted leadoff a lot the past 2-3 seasons? You can change your approach at the plate depending on where you hit.
  10. QUOTE (lord chas @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) The atmosphere at that game was incredible. I miss playoff baseball on the South Side It has only happened what, 3 times in the last 15 years? It's not like it was that common haha (at least in more recent years)
  11. I saw someone kick around the idea of Oscar Taveras which could make sense for the Cards to move him with Holliday locked up in left, Jay coming off a good year likely to be penciled into center along with Bourjos as the 4th OF, and then one of Grichuk, Piscotty, Taveras to play right. Taveras would make a whole lot of sense to this team as he is young enough to be added to the long-term core and he is a left-handed bat. Cards also have: Jay, Adams, Carpenter, Wong hitting from the left side so maybe they would be more willing to move the lefty outfielder to play a right handed one as that would give them balance of 4 lefties/right and then the pitcher spot. The only problem is, with the Cards being a good organization top to bottom and having young infielders, outfielders and pitchers, I don't really know what a good deal would be for him.
