Official NHL COVID season thread
Southwest Sider replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well, that game was the Hawks chance to steal one and make it a series. Unfortunately they just came short. I miss the days when the Hawks could stand up to a team like Vegas. Our top players are pretty good, but Hossa, prime Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Sharp and others just pushed that team over the top. We don't have that anymore. Just another team now. Maybe these young guys can grow into newer versions of our old core... but it'd be really, really nice to have a new "Keith" and a new "Seabrook". Sort of why I was hoping the Hawks would have drafted Bowen Byrum as he was the top rated defenseman in the draft. -

Could be worse... half our team could be wiped out due to COVID. It almost feels like it may as well have been, at this point. -
Did Jose and Yoan start hunting high fastballs?

MLB COVID-19 outbreaks: None of as Sept 18
Southwest Sider replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
LOL who goes to a casino during a pandemic? Especially when you're trying to fit in a shortened MLB season? I wouldn't think about going to a casino right now... those guys are morons. I get that its probably boring between games but that's the price a lot of us are paying right now.... buy a few Xboxs or Playstations, grab some beers and enjoy the hotel with your teammates. -
I think Soxtalk had a IRC server back in the day that had a web interface, as well. It's fun. I like Discord servers and would join if there was one. I have a lot of Discord administrative experience, as well so if you all would want help with that let me know. I was head admin for a large community of Pokemon Go players spanning a large portion of the far west suburbs.

Can I just say that this guy called it. -
I don't mind Engel too much temporarily, this lineup can hit a bit as is. At least we can count on stellar defense, which is nice!!

Betts might be closing in on a deal with LAD
Southwest Sider replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
There goes that pipe dream. Better now than late into FA with the Sox being one of the top 3 or 4 teams and ending with ultimate disappointment and anger. Still kinda wish we did what the Dodgers did here. Trade and sign to long term deal. -

Heuer looks like a closer -
Kopechs first game at the Rate was obscenely fun. I cant imagine he didnt enjoy the heck out of that and want more of it for a career. Seems like it would be super addictive... hoping for the best for Michael, though.

So we got 2 guys who have decent chances to become ace material SPs. Excellent draft. I'd normally be happy to only get 1 guy like that in a draft.

I've never liked Trevor Plouffe more than right now.

Thanks. I haven't been paying much attention and struggled to find real information out there.

Ridin Rosters will be dropping a big roster update tonight. Will this be the one worth starting a franchise with?

Pandemic Realignment: Sox in the Cactus League West
Southwest Sider replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yep. You won't hear me complaining if the Sox play the Dodgers 12 times. It's baseball and our guys are supposed to be developing this year anyway. What better way to take your shots then against a potential future World Series opponent. -
Got some Fluffy Gummy yesterday. Awesome brew. Too many good beers coming out this week. Halogen Farm is one of my favorites from Hop Butcher.

I am already working full time at my new job. I was keeping the other one around as a weekend job. I am definitely doing an IRA. Probably Traditional. Just wondering what y'all think.
-
Hey everyone. Some of you guys are way smarter than I am when it comes to stuff like this, so could I grab some advice perhaps? I have a big decision on my plate and want to hear as many opinions as possible. So I'm actually transitioning jobs right now and in order to get more control over the money in my 401K, I went ahead and quit that job so that I could move that money into something I have more control over. A few of the options I'm considering are: 1) Roll it all over into a Roth IRA, pay the penalties and taxes now, and use the rest to buy stocks and ETFs that I think will rebound nicely. 2) Roll it all into a Traditional IRA, pay no taxes right now but if I were to ever withdraw before age 60, pay penalties and taxes on (potentially) higher funds. 3) Do a split sort of contribution, say $6,000 into a Roth IRA for my 2019 contribution and the rest into a brokerage account where, yes I'd pay again full penalties and taxes on but then I'd have more accessible funds. I do realize this is a very personal decision with personal factors to consider, but if anyone has any real world experience or opinions to offer, I am all ears. I also understand that I only have a very rudimentary understanding of this, so if I missed any important nuggets, please share. Thanks everyone!

Keuchel spends $25K for organization-wide dinner

Heh, he kinda did lighten up. Hopefully Keuchel isn't the exception to the rule and these guys can start letting their personalities show in how they wear their hair too. -
