  1. I'm starting to think that Colliton, while probably a really good guy, may simply just be too young to handle some of the personalities on this team. Isn't there something to having a grizzled, crusty, older guy telling you when you're fucking up as opposed to a younger guy? His message may be lost on the older guys.
  2. I'm not trading our best catching prospect because we sign EE for 1 year. That's silly. Zack sticks around as depth and will get the PAs he will get. If someone gets hurt, thank goodness we still have Zack Collins.
  3. I wouldn't really be interested in that. They can keep him for that price. I'd do Madrigal and a one of our flyer OF guys like Basabe or Rutherford. IMO Matthew Thompson should be off the table. Hes got a pretty decent chance and the Sox will need a wave of pitchers by the time he would be "ready".
  4. Instead we get crap like "Jerry really stepped up to the plate by having the 'top' offer for Wheeler". More like "Once again didn't want to bid against himself to get the player they wanted".
  5. No doubt... Cole never would have happened. But imagine those same kinds of words coming out of Hahn's mouth had the Sox given Wheeler an offer he couldn't refuse? Maybe the Sox weren't obsessed with Wheeler, but he was their target and now their offseason appears to be falling apart. It just sucks, man. I'm sick of JR ownership.
  6. Cashman was on MLB Network yesterday talking about the Cole signing. He used phrases such as (and I'm paraphrasing here) "Ownership wanted to do this for the fans." "Ownership is committed to winning at all costs." "We know there is significant risk in this contract, but it takes risks to win championships." And so on. The White Sox cant be the Yankees.. but they aren't even one tenth of the Yankees. The Yankees are the deer you just ran over with your car, the Sox are a fly you ran into. The Sox have built this reality that they live in. Is Sox Twitter too toxic? Tough shit, maybe they should stop being such a risk adverse piece of garbage franchise and give the fans something to be excited about.
  7. Glad for him and good to have some AAAA guys like him around for depth in worse-case scenario situations.
  8. I agree. They continue to operate like the We Suck Tax doesnt exist but it clearly does because Wheeler had a price that he would have accepted (everyone can be bought for the right price) but whatever it was, Sox weren't willing to meet. Wife or not, that is the definition of the We Suck Tax and Hahn better not ever push that rhetoric against it again.
  9. Oh yeah it stinks that Wheeler picked the Phillies lesser offer... but money talks. Suck up your useless pride and offer the guy you targeted enough to make him say "hmmm".. but this organization is so anti overpaying that it wont happen. Wheeler could have been bought at the right price, but the Sox once again stuck to their guns and they missed out on the their target. I guess penny smart, pound foolish may apply here?
  10. Thanks for stopping by. I don't see the Sox as the "overpaying" types. Once Ryu and Keuchuel prices get out of their comfort level, they are gonna be out. If that doesn't happen, these negotiations will last until March as the Sox try to save a few million instead of just singing the effing guy and being done with it.
  11. I can't argue with that. They were supposed to be in on Cole and couldn't follow through. I guess even Moreno has contracts that get to a level he is uncomfortable with. But the Rendon signing is a great one. They have a lot of work to do on that rotation, but they are making sure at least some key pieces are in place - if only on offense. Honestly, with Moreno, the only thing I like about him is that he is willing to spend. He doesn't seem like the brightest spender but that's where you put the smart people around you who can tame your wildest instincts and spend your money wisely. There is a fine balance. I respect him because he spends, but he doesn't always spend wisely. Our owner spends wisely to a fault, and refuses to ever spend excessively, even if it's somewhat justified. The absolute defeatist attitude this organization has had about top FAs since Machado is pathetic. From the complete lack of effort on Harper after Machado went to SD, to this offseason... is an absolute admission of complete patheticness and... as my friend told me today, I'm usually a glass half full kind of guy, and even I'm fed up which is weird, I can't defend this garbage any longer.
  12. Indeed, those are bad signings... ones a more aggressive GM may have been able to stave off... who really knows? Fact is he still isn't shying away from the big bucks and landed Rendon... a much safer bet of a player than Upton or Pujols. Moreno is not a gold star of an owner, but a guy like him coupled with smarter baseball people could mess this league up.
  13. Damn do I live Lehners honest assessments of this teams overall defense. Is anyone going to start listening to him?
  14. Trading for Price is generally a bad idea, and yeah Moreno is a bit short sighted but at least he puts his money where his mouth is. Couple that with a GM who can guide him well and the Angel's would be back to being a perennial powerhouse. We dont have either.
  15. Asking prices for Betts wont even give us this possible excitement. As soon as this offseasons played out, I went from a trade for Betts and sign him to a Trout contract mentality to the exact opposite because theres no chance. This team wont sign shit and the contract Betts deserves will be dished out by an owner who gives a rat's ass about his team.
  16. Seriously. I dont really believe it was his wives call. I think it was his way of nicely saying I dont want to play for you. The money was close enough to go somewhere he wanted. Hahn gets pissed off when people say we need to overpay to get top FAs, but it's true. The We Suck Tax is real and theres no doubt a few million more would have changed Wheelers mind. This is a perfect example that directly dispels Hahns notion that the tax doesnt exist and players want to play here. Chicago ain't that far away from home, especially when you can afford first class flights.
  17. I'm gonna lean toward dead. That's usually how these things go.
  18. That's what you get for not ponying up for a real FA SP line Gerrit Cole. Yeah, yeah I get it. Even if the Sox were really in on him it's still very likely he'd choose New York. It doesnt matter though. Now you're in a position where teams want 2 of your 3 best prospects for David freaking Price and AB??? Screw that! Should have just offered Wheeler the We Suck Tax to change his mind.
  19. I highly doubt anyone got their Hope's up. It's just the fact that this ownership group sucks ass and we once again watched the whales go where they are welcome. We were told the money will be spent and blah blah blah. Augmenting the rebuild with actual, premium, Boras priced talent is a smart move!!!! But they're out, and we get garbage like Mazara that we need to hope on more than Marcell fucking Ozuna, who has a WAY better chance at a 4 WAR season, laughed at by our fucking owner. Hes not even a whale, but hes basically written off as a possibility now!!!
  20. They spent 19 million (worth 52m today), have probably made many millions on ownership. The franchise is now worth 1.5 billion. Do the fans a fucking solid and cash out. Capital gains tax be damned, that's a hefty sum of money and hey... it means that the investors won. They bought this franchise for almost nothing comparitively, and now they have something worth over a billion. Buy low, sell high. Give us an owner who wants a shiny new toy hobby instead of this tired shit.
  21. JR and his investment group should cash out at this point and sell the team to someone who wants to take on the Cubs as they appear to be reaching their weakest. You idiots made so much money off of this franchise. Cash the fuck out and enjoy being stupid rich FFS. Sell to a Moreno type who wants to play the game and win this city back.
  22. Hes got us by the balls. The team is just exciting enough that people will go. Moncada and Eloy etc are worth seeing. I want to punish the Sox but I also want to see those guys in person. ?
  23. I truly believe that Hahn and KW have a commitment to winning. Even JR, to some degree, is committed to winning.... but the means to get to winning must conform to his stipulations first and foremost. He wants to win, but he has a duty to the the rest of the morons who own part of this team. They got together in invested in this team because that's what it is.... an investment. You can't compromise that with 300M contracts. Contrast that with Moreno who is just some rich dude who probably doesn't give a rats ass if he loses a few million because the Angels are his cool toy hobby.
