NFL Thread 2019-2020
Southwest Sider replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wtf y'all find something better to do with you lives than being meatballs bickering on a message board. Bears lost a game they should have won. They aren't as good as they should be. Packers are killing it this year. Bears have an uphill battle. We will see what they're made of now. If it doesnt work out, tough shit, what else are you used to? -

They definitely deserve it but I'm not interested in listening to that and the Cubs managerial search all week. Fortunately, Lawrence Holmes is the man and finds ways to talk Sox and Blackhawks during his 2 hours sometimes. -

Official NHL COVID season thread
Southwest Sider replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Anyone think the Hawks might surprise some people this year? I'm not convinced or anything but I think they could have a pretty good year. Itd be nice if they turned into a Cup contender again. Hard to believe theres been 2 whole disappointing seasons since that letdown sweep by Nashville. -
Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Southwest Sider replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As for what I would trade, that is a tough question because I think that whatever I propose would get laughed at by Red Sox fans or front office. Basically, Robert is the only true untouchable but I'm also not really interested in trading Madrigal or Vaughn. I've also said I'm not too interested in trading pitching prospects. I think Steele Walker would have to be the headliner here... and he's not THAT much of a headliner. Quantity over quality then... so Walker and 1 of Adolfo/Rutherford/Basabe/Gonzalez, then a low level guy like Lenyn Sosa and then that 4th nobody prospect that nobody cares about. Then throw the bank at Betts, sign him, and don't give a crap you traded 2 of the systems best OF prospects. -

Mookie Betts is a generational talent and he will no doubt sign any deal that is in the 400s. He'd frankly be stupid not to. There's no need to "test FA" when the team that has control over you blows you away, which we saw by and large last offseason. If you intend to do this, and the asking price isn't completely insane, this is an absolute no brainer. If you can construct it more like Harpers to disperse the money over more years, even better. The question then becomes, if the constraint that the Sox would absolutely sign him to an extension and Boston's asking price isn't crazy were met, what then becomes the offer we would give up? It's mental masturbation, but it is fun to talk about and dream about. I'd like to avoid dealing SP prospects as we need as many of those as we can, so what package of position players get the deal done? -
I know his WAR and defense sucks, but if Jose can kind of take this year with his obsolete stats and make it status quo for a few more years I think he's got a good chance. With the lineup we could be building around him its feasible he could improve on this years numbers if he stays the same. His basic numbers could look beastly the next few years if he's driving in 120 with this "meh" lineup.

lmao I got their 11-0 win mixed up with our win yesterday,

2 straight shutouts against a team with their backs up against the wall? I will fucking TAKE that shit. Good to see another team shitting their pants when the chips are down. We need to go into next season feeling like we are this teams daddy!

State of Chicago baseball: the tipping point
Southwest Sider replied to 35thstreetswarm's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably too early. I'm still holding out hope for an all Chicago World Series in the next few years, and I think their core is still solid enough to do so. Pitching has got to be better for the north siders, though. -
We better start beating these fucks next year.
-
Hey look, it's Ryan LaMarre.
-
He's so studly. He alone was worth trading prime Chris Sale. Anything we get from Kopech or Basabe will just be gravy.
-
Man I would love to snag Betts from the BoSox but they're gonna want Robert or Madrigal headlining the deal.
-
I think he will want at least 1 more year tagged on as well. There should be enough suitors willing to go 3 years on him, so I don't see him accepting less than 4 years with at least a 25 MM AAV.
-
Wow one bad year and they can DD? What a shitshow. The expectations up in New England are a little too ridiculous, if you ask me. They have a damn good team and had a tough year. They should just fire themselves if they're so upset. Welcome to baseball, dumbasses.
-
Next year you're looking at Gio Kopech Cease Lopez FA? I don't think you're seeing Covey next year unless he is either the opposition or we suffer many injuries. Perhaps also as a mop up guy. You're overreacting. Anyone who goes to games this year should expect there will be some level of trash going on. At least the Sox made it kinda exciting.

Turned into a fun little game here. Too bad Eloy was robbed. -
Heh. I dropped my wallet right outside my car when starting a shift at work (and sadly had $200 in). Came to realize it 4 hours later on my lunchbreak. It was still there, but the $200 wasn't. That was definitely a day ruiner.

Reinsdorf assures Ron that Abreu will always be a White Sox
Southwest Sider replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I gotta say, this thread has been a very interesting read with a lot of good back and forth between the two sides. Overall, I am warming up to keeping Abreu. I'd actually like to see if he changes his approach when he doesn't feel like he has to be the "RBI guy". It's possible we see a more selective Abreu next year, and also possible that those slumps where he swings at everything are shorter. The key to all of this will be to strong starts next year from guys like Moncada and Eloy. If they are crushing it, he will hopefully put less pressure on himself. It's also possible that he gets worse, but I think it's a gamble you can take with 2/24 while our core is still so cheap. This isn't quantifiable but I just get a feeling that Jose will continue to produce at a somewhat similar rate for at least a few more years. What I mean is I don't expect that massive instant drop off. He finds his time enjoyable here, he has a basic clue of how to hit a baseball, he's not a complete old-timer yet, and he's incredibly excited about this teams future. I think that's a pretty good mix for success. Whether or not you think his current production is successful is another debate. Although he hates DHing (what else is new from old 1B-men), with any new contract there needs to be an agreement between him and management that he should expect to DH significantly more, especially when Vaughn is ready. I think he will luck himself into plenty of games at 1B next year because we will likely see a lot of Collins/McCann at rotating DH, but after next year all bets are off. In a 2 year deal I think he should expect to play much more DH in 2021, and be a good soldier about it. Vaughn is probably going to be the main guy at 1B in 2021, we can't have Jose complaining about DHing too much when that time comes. -
Eloy was scratched. Sounds like a hip thing. Moncada is back. Detwiler pitching.
-
He's played 60% of a full season and accumulated 4 fWAR in those games. That's a pace for approximately 7-7.5 if he stayed healthy and people argue he can still be better than he is right now, and that's not just with stealing bags. Moncada's absolute ceiling is one of the best players in the game. I dont think it's out of the question to see him put up some truly eye-popping seasons.
