  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 08:07 PM) I was at that game Me too! Great game and it was even better because we still had dreams about maybe getting to the postseason.
  2. I wanted to start a discussion on Giolito to gather some opinions from our more savvy posters regarding his future in the MLB. Basically, when the trade happened people were saying Shelby Miller 2.0 and that the Sox fleeced the Nationals. I think a lot of people here had a more clear view of the trade, yes the Sox got a nice return but the Nationals got a good player and I highly doubt he will be as bad as Shelby Miller has been for Arizona. However, I was reading some tweets and articles talking about Giolito and that a lot of executives at the winter meetings had him lower on their prospect list then the national outlets. How low? One may never know, but it is interesting topic for discussion because some felt the Sox fleeced the Nationals, while others are down on Giolito. If Giolito isn't as good as we hope, then it severely hurts the value of this deal. Lopez projects as a bullpen piece, which is fine, and Dunning could be a starter but he's kind of far away yet. Giolito is the headliner and there's talk that the Nationals screwed up delivery, so he seems like an ideal candidate for the Sox to fix. I guess I just want to see what some of you guys out there feel like his ceiling really is.
  3. If the Astros really work by the numbers as some have suggested, this article may help explain why they aren't that interested in Quintana: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/do-the-astr...-jose-quintana/
  4. This deal makes a ton of sense for the Pirates, even at a steep cost. If their playoff chances start going south within 2 years or so, and provided Quintana is still pitches as he does now, they can still flip him again for an awesome return to some other team to help offset the prospects they lost to acquire him in the first place.
  5. It just sounds like he's butthurt about blowing game 7 and getting bailed out by his teammates because of Maddons use of him in prior games. Grow a pair dude. You throw 100+ and it's the World Series. Don't fault a manager for doing everything he can to ensure victory. If YOU know that YOU suck, tell the manager before you blow game 7.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:53 AM) No-movement? Never heard of that clause in sports. Specifically made in case of expansion teams? It's just an added bonus to Seabrooks contract, and they do exist around the NHL. They are similar to No Trade Clauses in the MLB. For any player who has a NMC in their contract, their team is required to use an expansion protection spot on that player.
  7. No, nothing, and unless someone bowls the Sox over with an offer I doubt Robertson gets traded. Bullpen arms have insane value at the trade deadline and I think Robertson has a good chance of having a good year. He's a good pitcher for sure. If he can get that nasty cutter back, he could be worth a LOT at the deadline. You may not get the Frazier package or the Torres package like Miller and Chapman extracted, but you could easily get at least the headliner of those packages. If I'm the Sox and I don't see a good headliner in a trade like a Frazier or Torres, I gamble on Robertson and try to deal him at the deadline. Worst case scenario: He sucks and you can't trade him. But at least you'd have one more year of control to see if he can put it back together for trade deadline 2018.
  8. That 2nd goal for the Hawks tonight was a thing of beauty. Finally, a great game for the teams power play. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. By the way, that Panarin one-timer seems legit and is reminiscent of Ovechkins PP one timers.
  9. It's too bad Colorado or no one else seems serious about trading for Q. Without another contender, Houston can just attempt to do what the Sox did last year with Cespedes... "they'll have no choice but to take our lowball offer." We all know how that turned out for the Sox, and I think something similar happens to Houston. They either don't get a TOR starter to start 2017, or they decide to pay the price. Let's hope they aren't as stubborn as the Sox were, or that another team or two finally seriously jump into this.
  10. I hope the Twins get better and the fact that we traded Sale and Eaton, and hopefully Quintana put the Sox in the position to draft #1 in the 2018 draft. I also hope we can unload some guys who are performing well in June as well as July in order to get talent back for them and increase the possibility we get the #1 spot in the draft by having trash out there in August and September. I hate to say it, but I'm trying to be realistic so what's best for the future might be getting this Seth Beer guy. His name is awesome but if his performance can match the hype then he is a guy we need and I guy I want on this team. It may be a good draft class, and not all would be lost if we drafted in the top 5, but I really think the Sox should just punt this season as much as possible to try and draft this guy. If I go to a game, I'm going to be rooting for a Sox win, but the sting of losing is oh-so-diminished by adding another loss onto the pile of losses we need to be #1 in the draft. I also really hope they don't call up anyone of significance like Moncada, Giolito and Lopez until 2018, unless they absolutely have to.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) This guy would be such a good fit for the Giants or Dodgers. Two west coast teams that keep him closest to Japan and play in a league where he can pitch and swing the stick. Early guess is he goes to the Dodgers. That would disgust me. The Dodgers are the new Evil Empire, IMO, and I'd be very upset if they snagged a talent like this to pile onto their already massive talent pool.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) I think our offer involved Gio Gonzalez and Josh Fields plus others. While Fields clearly busted, hindsight would tell you the Marlins would have been far better off taking the White Sox offer because Gio was far more valuable then anything they ever benefited from (and it wasn't like they got anything when they flipped Andrew Miller). Damnit I still wish to this day that KW found a way to pull that trade off.
  13. My goodness, I almost forgot that year 3 and 4 are option years. That's even less risk for a team to take on should he ever have any injury problems or general pitching issues. That adds even more value, and the Sox are justified to require at least a package of prospects that's 95% as good as Sales. Luhnow can posture all he wants; it's not going to work. It's his own fault if his team undervalues Quintana because he doesn't strike out 200+ per year. Quintana is an elite pitcher and to trade him the Sox need an elite package of players.
  14. That the Dodgers would rather spend all that money on free agents and taxes actually disgusts me. They are so protective of their prospects that they'd rather pay millions in tax penalites? They don't need every single one of those prospects and I believed it would be more prudent to swap some unproven prospects for good veteran players. Whatever, screw them. Hope they finally miss out on the playoffs in 2017.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Quintana does not have to get dealt this offseason if their price is not met They can shop him at the deadline or next offseason and still get a huge return This cannot be emphasized enough. Hahn is ready to hold his players until his asking prices are met. If teams like the Astros want to diddle around and wait for a lower ask, they are only hurting themselves. While I still think Q finds a new home before Spring Training, I am fully prepared for the possibility of him not being dealt yet. Frankly, he's one of the few pitchers in the league I'd be okay with risking him getting hurt or having a bad year instead of dealing him to the "best bid."
  16. He must really not want to be a Marlin to have not accepted 5/80+ at this point. Wow.
  17. 5 years, 82.5 MM, and a disappointed Cubs fanbase. I hope he hits .400 against the Cubs and terrorizes them. Cardinals have some work to do to compete with that team, and this is definitely a step in the right direction.
  18. I'd be shocked if the Yankees traded what it's gonna take to acquire Quintana. All indications are that they really want those prospects to be part of their core going forward, and frankly that's the way the Yankees should go in my opinion. If, by the deadline they are competing, then they might become buyers to some degree. If I were them, I'd really want to hold onto those top prospects of theirs and see them through.
  19. I fully expect Hahn and company to be "in" on the big time free agents in 2018. How far "in" is open to interpretation, but with the minuscule payroll and the probable need/want to add a huge player to the organization during what should be the end of a rebuild, I can't imagine we won't hear grumblings about the Sox being in on these top players.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:11 AM) I don't think the Yankees are prepared to sell off the farm while they are rebuilding. That is a team that really could use arms though. Their starting pitching is somewhat of a mess outside of Tanaka. This seems to be consensus among the insiders. They aren't necessarily looking to necessarily compete next year, and they want that wave of talent that they have to reach the bigs. So, I doubt they jump in on Quintana.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:19 AM) FWIW Dave Cameron thinks Jones should net a return similar to what Ken Giles got last year. I had no clue Nate Jones was 30. Holy cow. Trade him, IMO.
  22. Rosenthal was just talking about how valuable Eaton's contract actually is to a team like Washington that doesn't go absolutely nuts with payroll. We've said it all along that good players on contracts like that should net a good haul of prospects, and it rung true in this instance.
  23. The only blowback here is on the Nationals. No other team will decide to tread lightly with the White Sox because they got an excellent return from the Nats. It's on Washington to accept the deal and they did.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) Interesting....that said, I think he'd take a bit less to stay in LA. I agree with this as well. LA is so much more desirable a destination than Miami, in terms of being on a competitive team.
