This should wrap up the free agent closer market, I highly doubt the Dodgers offer more money than Chapman got from the Yankees for Jansen. I'd be shocked if they did.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Southwest Sider replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wow how observant of you to notice that Quintana is not Chris Sale, John Coppolella. Duh. -
Yanks need another lefty in the pen. Maybe they look at Dan Jennings? Everything the insiders are saying is they won't be looking to part with any of their premium prospects, so it's doubtful they pursue Q I guess.

Bought his jersey. He's my kind of baseball player. Gonna miss him for sure.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) I think his value now vs. if he has a successful season as our closer is way different. 100% agreed here. If you can get a "closer" return for Nate now, you do it and don't look back. If he needs to be our 2016 closer and get dealt at the deadline, that's fine too. As much as I want to see the farm filled up right meow, I realize it's going to take some time to move ALL of our pieces that we want to move. -
I'm stoked this domino has fallen, and even happier that it's the Yankees. I hope they decide to jump in on Q now, his 4 years of control fits in very well with this 5 year deal to Chapman.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Southwest Sider replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know Hahn hasn't slept much the past couple of days, so I'm wondering if the Sox are just gonna call it a winter meetings and get some rest and continue trying to work upon frameworks established this week. I'd be as ecstatic as anyone if we get another midnight blockbuster, though. Maybe they are powering through it and trying to get a deal done tonight. -
I think Q, Nate Jones and David Robertson get dealt this offseason for sure. Possibly Frazier as well. All these guys should get acceptable offers. Abreu is going to stay on the team and if he has a great first half, get dealt at the deadline or in June. I don't think the offers we want for Abreu will be there until next season. I say don't slow down. Keep selling. Tank 2 years get a top 5 pick and keep building that farm.

QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:29 PM) I think some of it depends on if they sign Chapman. If they sign Chappy and then pivot to EE, they could be good again in a hurry, in which case Q makes sense. Hopefully Chapman and EE get figured out soon. I'd imagine they want to leave the winter meetings knowing who they're going to be playing for. -

How serious do you guys think the Yankees would be for a Q trade? I mean, are they going to be going for it or are they trying to build up that farm rather then selling off part of the farm? -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Sox haven't pulled trigger but seemed to be in big ticket items like that. Recently Tanaka, but prior to that Alex Rodriguez in the texas deal. If their offer is competitive, with a successful rebuild they could really sell Bryce on helping get this team to the World Series. Ah, I love dreaming sometimes... -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Nice. Amazing? Nothing the Sox do can be called amazing IMO. I want proof of it. These haven't been "amazing" deals IMO. If nothing else, if these pitchers turn out well, the Sox could be looking at a rotation similar to the Mets, and they were able to get to the big series behind that rotation. I might be exaggerating the potential of the future rotation, but it is never a bad idea to 1) Take the best deal on the table and 2)Acquire pitching -

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) You keep complaining about this, but the bottom line is no championship caliber team has ever been built JUST through a rebuild or JUST by drafting well or JUST by making good trades and getting good value for your players or JUST through free agency. It takes a combination of all of it to get the job done. So they don't get the hitters now? Okay, draft hitters. Buy hitters. When you're done with the rebuild process, take some of the surplus value you've built on your farm and trade for hitters. We know that JR is much more likely to pony up for a hitter than a pitcher, and you laughed earlier when I said get Harper and Machado, but he signed Belle to the biggest contract at the time and he tried to sign ARod to the biggest contract at that time. It just doesn't make sense that you're so dead set on getting hitters rather than seeing that the Sox are actually doing it the right way for once. They're rebuilding, they need to get the most value they can, position be damned. They got 2 guys who could be TOR starters for Eaton, and all of MLB thinks Rizzo got fleeced. I even understand your position to an extent, the Sox don't have the best track record developing position players (though Semien and Anderson recently provide good counterexamples to that), but value is more important right now. There was no way the Sox would've gotten better value for Eaton than what the Nats gave up. I think you're rushing to judgement here instead of giving the whole thing time to play out. Can you imagine it if the Sox with a minuscule payroll decided to go balls to the wall and sign Bryce Harper? Almost a zero chance of it actually happening, but the payroll commitments will be so small at the time, I really expect the Sox will be in on him to some degree. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) Hey great. Did you notice the emphasis on position players that they brought in? Did you notice the half a billion dollars they spent in free agency? They still acquired Arrieta developed Kyle Hendricks. Because they didn't focus on pitching, they had to spend a truckload of money for Jon Lester, and hope a guy like John Lackey doesn't suck. Yes, they won the World Series, but they're either going to have to give a truckload of money to Arrieta or trade some of that position player depth for... you guess it, pitching. Like what just happened today. Soler for Wade Davis. It goes both ways dude. The Sox can trade pitching for position players in the future, as well as sign big time position player free agents. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) A rebuild does NOT go: I need X players here, X players there...a Rebuild simply improves the talent base. You get the very best talent you can, then sort it out later. Southsider2k5, read this. This is correct. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) The net of our two biggest trade chips and we got one future star position player (at best) for one current one. We got a lot of pitching. There is no reason to celebrate this as a "plan". Oh, you know what.. you're right. You just convinced me. Actually, you should keep responding to every Sox fan who loves this deal. You'll change all of our minds eventually. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Which we have not done in any sense. We still don't have any position players. You seriously need to start thinking about a 2-3 year plan instead of judging one trade at a time. You're being too shortsighted about this. But whatever man, keep feeling bad like you seem to want to. But like I said, you keep posting this garbage... NO ONE here is buying it. Hit the log out button or find another topic to participate in. You're rhetoric is old and at this point is just annoying. We all know you hate the deal. Now go away and let the rest of us celebrate. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) This is going to be a miserable few years. And now I don't even see a light at the end of the tunnel. Apparently we didn't learn the lesson that you need get who can hit and catch the ball. OK dude. You're seriously the biggest buzzkill ever right now. And no one (or very few) are buying what you're selling. Take your s***ty rhetoric and hit the Log Out button, IMO. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:31 PM) Nobody will say this, but moving Chris and Adam was also about the clubhouse culture change. Radio personalities echoed this all day yesterday. I think Bernstein or Rozner called them the "duck dynasty" guys. A lot of hate for Eaton on the radio, a lot of people calling his hustle "fake hustle". I don't know about any of that but there were times I would see Eaton loafing it on a groundball, even if he sprinted to first base whenever he walked. -
The thing about the relatively low price for Frazier last year was that it seemed the Sox were the only real suitors for him. At some point, the Reds had to give in on a deal. This year, it seems like there are at least a couple of teams interested, which could help the Sox extract at least one really good prospect.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) Dude I'm as excited as I've been in years. To me it feels like the early 90s again. Sox are loading up on young talent and if they can get a few studs out of like they did then it will set them up for a great run in the next decade. I get that you're disappointing to see favorites go but ripping the bandaid off has long been overdue on this roster. This times a million. southsider2k5, I have had no reason to watch the White Sox past May in the last several years. At least now there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I'll gladly sacrifice April and May baseball for a team that down the road could have sustained success (a term Hahn likes to use a lot). That's the goal. I support that goal 100%. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen but they are making the right moves as of now. -
